- Belgrade is the capital of Serbia. The city name in Serbian: Београд, Beograd means 'White City'. This south-eastern European capital is mostly off the usual tourist map though some travellers come to Belgrade to experience the city’s atmosphere or nightlife.
We start our evening walk in summer (August 2019) at the south end of the main walking street Kneza Mihaila. We walk the whole street north-west to Kalemegdan Park and the Kale Meydan - a viewing spot.
The significant landmark is of Blegrade is the Beogradska Tvrđava forttress. We can overlook the confluence of the Danube and the Sava rivers and walk around the fortress park. There we check out different viewing spots and the Military Museum.
It is getting dark so with the sunset we head back to the city centre. We see several side streets of Kneza Mihaila with cafés and restaurants that are lively on this summer evening. The night arrives as we walk further to end our tour near the National Assembly and New Palace (Nowy Dwor) in
Pionirski park.

It seems it was a pretty warm day, and beautiful evening! However, on this August fine evening, it was extremely busy! Looks like tourist love coming here and I can see why.
I tried to follow you via Google Maps, however Google map has not updated since 2013 of this location, and since then, Belgrade has had many changes. Lots of wonderful upgrades, if I may say so. Such a wonderful place to visit for sure! Lots of young families here are raising their children. Such a delightful area. Glad you were so detailed in your description as well.

Serbia (and some of the surrounding countries) is near the top of the list when it comes to the average human height of countries worldwide, which is almost 6'0'' for men and 5'6'' for women.
I am 6'2'' and while I was a teenager I considered myself pretty average, or at best a little above average. It wasn't until I started meeting people from the US, who called me tall, that I started viewing myself as one. 😅

Yes Belgrade is pretty much family friendly city, it has lot of walking zones (something common in Europe, but not in US), great parks, recreational areas (even protected forest within a city, with great walking paths), playgrounds for kids etc.

@@BrigitteCoffman You're welcome. Also that left skyscraper at 12:42 on the opposite side of Sava river was opened few days ago. As i see Kalemegdan park was also under reconstruction then (he had to take detour at 15:45 because big stairs were closed), it is done now also. 20:17 are doors to old Roman well, it is really deep and something to see.
Belgrade is not the prettiest city globally, but something about the confluence of river Sava and the Danube river makes this place magical. Only people who were lucky to live in Belgrade for a while can understand the energy this city is radiating.

I personally never knew much about Serbia except that Tesla was from there and I adore Tesla. Until I met someone from Belgrade a couple of years back, became a very close person to me, told me about many historical facts, about the churches, the people, etc and I love any place rich in history, so now I watch many vids like these since I cannot travel there but I hope to someday . That part of Austro-Hungary is located in a large geographical area called Lika and was inhabited mostly by Serbs.

The Balkans never had black slaves (or any slaves in general for the most part), and that is why they never got here in large enough numbers to settle till today. Usually you'll see black tourists or athletes that play for Serbian teams.
It's funny how some people see us as being racist for not having black people, while it's the total opposite. 😃
