I can't help but think if something like this had been composed a few centuries ago, it might be in the realm of all-time classical greats.
The truth has to be unveiled: One of the ancestors of D/P/Pt's music composers wrote this and Cynthia's battle theme, and in honor of them, the two pieces became Pokemon masterpieces, famous and infamous for all time...!
(Of course, if this were true, it would be awesome...)
fun fact! this theme is a style of theme called an "etude", which are somewhat short pieces made to practice a specific skill (in this one, mainly just a lot of fast arpeggios) and it was a very popular style in the Victorian era. it would absolutely not have been in any way out of place.

When I played the game as a kid, I thought fighting Dialga/Palkia was the end of my journey. After 3 months of waffling about, thinking I had beaten the game, I heard this song. I feared this woman but at the same time, fell in love with her and her befitting theme

The fact that a significant portion of this song consists of playing exclamation points with the visual guide says a lot about how it feels to walk into Cynthia's room if you have ANY idea what's coming.
Hmm ... I don't feel it. In my Platinum playthrough, the Elite 4 honestly gave me a _lot_ more trouble than Cynthia herself, and even upon defeating her my team was still "only" Lv.56-7 with no items used during the battle itself.
@@Stratelier Then you're an Alpha-damned tactical genius who's successfully min-maxed the Sinnoh Pokédex. Or you're just lucky. Either way, your lack of tension says more about you than her.
@@DraconaiAuracto Hard to say. Platinum Cynthia is legitimately about 4-5 levels lower than DP Cynthia, and swaps out the Gastrodon for a Togekiss (and other minor moveset changes, like not running Earthquake on Lucario). This is definitely not my first Pokemon region, and I did anticipate some of her lineup from popular culture alone, but I didn't exactly optimize/breed for movesets, I didn't even do much EV grinding, preferring to use the same Pokemon I'd _already_ been using throughout the whole game. Some highlights:
* Infernape (starter, with a mostly unused Thunder Punch, otherwise nothing special, just Flamethrower)
* Lucario (with Foresight and Drain Punch, yes I made a point of hitting Spritomb's secret type weakness)
* Luxray (nothing special, not even Intimidate, just Charge+Thunder Fang which at least provided a natural Milotic counter)
* Umbreon (nothing special either, just Confuse Ray and Sucker Punch)
* Garchomp (nothing to see here, just Sandstorm+Dig and Dragon Claw)
* Staraptor (with Intimidate and Roost, but not Aerial Ace)
I was well-enough stocked on items to top off my team between each battle.
I left out Floatzel despite giving it Ice Fang (the go-to Garchomp counter).
My Garchomp and Umbreon actually went mostly unused for the Cynthia battle proper.
_Not_ having Aerial Ace on my Staraptor almost cost me the entire E4 run because the very first Pokemon was a Yanmega running Double Team, and Umbreon proved surprisingly useless against the Psychic E4 team (especially Alakazam who outsped me entire team bar none).
@@Stratelier Ah, I see the issue. I missed your mention of Platinum. While that IS a legitimately well-balanced team, you're absolutely right that her Pt team trades raw power for improved coverage.
@@DraconaiAuracto Naturally, if it were DP I would have had to spend a bit more time level-grinding (I trained up a Pachirisu specifically for Pickup), but it's even harder to predict whether the outcome would have been too much different. The weird thing about Pokemon battling is that as long as you're roughly level-matched with your opponent, it doesn't make much difference what said level actually _is._

Yeah the Garchomp is using it's blade like appendages to hit the keys faster than sound and light, hence the four note chord structure with only two possible manipulation limbs.
Even if she beat me, the music was always worth encountering Cynthia, maybe y’all should do more Sinnoh music like route 209 or Eterna Forest next!

If I didn't know any better, I would've assumed that this was a battle theme for a Star Wars villain. It just doesn't sound like it belongs in a Pokemon game, which is what makes it good imo
i had a flashback to when i was around 10-11 and in our sommerhouse and i had beaten the elite four for the first time in my life and walk into cynthia's room hearing this. i litterally thought i was actually gonna win the league but this starts playing and i just begin to fear for my life like i should. Even my dad and younger cousin sitting next to me could hear this was the final boss fight. i got rekt with the team 10 yr old me could make and absolutely lost without beating more than 2 of her pokemon being roserade and spiritomb when her garchomp came out. Unfortunelty my garchomp is not jaidens so i insantly get killed and lose. Till this day i have never beaten her because i have not tried to play plat again but now i have a sim so grinding will be faster
