These brother's here, are A-MAZING, They sounded good in the 80ies and this song still sound GREAT TODAY. I remember my radio day it was my closing song as i signed off the air. Brings back memories, a time will never forget. Thanks for the memories !!!
Sennie "Skip" Martin is one of the main reasons I wanted to sing coming up in Cleveland and should be considered a musical hero in my opinion. Love Cleveland and love the Dazz Band always!!!
The Dazz Band...damn!! The most underrated group around!! Got me through some very rough times...being in love with the wrong one...however I recovered through the music. Peace to Muskogee, Oklahoma where it all started and my Gma Willie Mae:) '06
Yes they are the most underrated group ever in the world man I miss them and love them I saw skip not too long ago last summer and he still sounds good I pray that he lives a long long time to keep this Legacy going because he is the sound mostly rest in peace Pierre
Mrlongincleveland Yes Skip was with the Dazz Band when they were in Cleveland but, he is originally from Sacramento California. That was a great Band. I'm from Cleveland and I was very proud and happy for those brothers! I agree do not sleep on Cleveland a lot of great people and a lot of great talent is from there!
This whole album goes hard in the paint!! Very underrated group. I am down with the Dazz Band-hell my whole family is!! Thanks for the music and memories. Much love:)
I am a Musician and currently Produce Artist in and around the Metro Detroit area. Just wanted to share some of my knowledge and my love for probably my favorite band - The Dazz Band... I fell in love with them ( KINSMAN DAZZ ) from the first time I heard them - I gave them a listen when I saw that they were produced by Phillip Bailey of my favorite group at that time - EWF... I MIGHT AS WELL FORGET ABOUT LOVING YOU had me hooked... Not only did it have that EWF/P. Bailey influence... I fell in love with Kenny Pettus, who sang most of the lead vocals b4 Skip joined the group... His falsetto was off the chains awesome and his natural voice was great also.. I feel he could have fronted any singing group during that era... Their next album with Kenny singing CATCHING UP ON LOVE only made me love them even more... On their next album I think Pierre DeMudd came on board, and just like Kenny he had me hooked with his awesome falsetto and also could have fronted any singing group ... But when I heard Skip Martin on that same album and they became THE DAZZ BAND, they officially became my favorite band. Skip's voice was just so smooth and strong, he basically became their main lead vocalist. Even though I definitely love me some Kenny and Pierre, you could not deny Skip's ability... Now throughout the years until now, I have had some bands that was just about on the DAZZ BAND / EWF level such as Pleasure / The Time / Cameo / Prince and a few others, but to me only MINT CONDITION had me feeling the way DAZZ / EWF did. I think it was all those amazing vocals that put DAZZ over the top... Skip / Kenny / Pierre along with the other guys helping on backgrounds, made them unstoppable... I saw them live and they were just as good vocally or better than the albums... The band with Skip and Pierre on trumpet, Bobby Harris on sax along with Kenny on percussion was just crazy... Everyone played an instrument and just about everybody helped out singing background vocals, once again that was just crazy... Even though they had some great uptempo songs LET IT WHIP was by far their most successful song commercially and radio airplay, but I think they had the best ballads ever. If their record label or marketing dept. could have recognized and exploited the ballads they recorded, they could have been mega, mega superstars... Man I could comment forever on my boys, but would like to hear if anybody else feels like I do about the most underrated group in the history of music - THE DAZZ BAND ....... let me hear from you ...
The Dazz Band is best known for it's Grammy award winning hit "Let It Whip", However, true fans of the group remember their soulful ballads that consisted of; Knock Knock. Heartbeat. Until You. Gamble w/my love. Bad Girl. Laughing at You. Stay Awhile. Slow Rap. Just believe in love. So much love. When you needed Roses. Now that I have you. Invitation to Love.
Alright... for those of you crying and snotting; wishing this level of music would come back... It can't and never will. This music by definition is SOUL MUSIC! Do you remember when the soul music played, there was little -to- no violence or the senseless hate between us. The American system could not allow that to go on for too long, this music has the power to rebuild families, make a brother go out and work and take care of his woman. This music made you think of God, love your brother and be his keeper! They took it away and look at us now... so keep buying that garbage out there and keep the system in place idoits.
They were called Kinsman Dazz first.. Because of the Kinsman GrillnBar.. on Kinsman in Cleveland, Oh. Where they got started and sung out of there. My hometown and my music. Real 🎤🎼🎹🎶🎶🎶
Terry Sanders i defy anybody to name a group that has more ballads than the dazz band but not all tme great band. If you like smooth slow james dazz band is it's
What a discovery: " Now That I Have You" was the name of the song that I sought, decades ago. And, the Dazz Band was the group that performed it. I knew, they performed "Slow Rap". But, I didn't know, they performed the selection, in reference. I commend their songwriters, on a job well done.
Thank you. However, I neglected also a few their great ballads to add to your playlist; I'll keep on Loving you; Catchin up on love; Just can't wait til the night; I've been waiting; A love song; She use to be my girl; I might as well forget about loving you; YOU CAN'T GO WRONG w/the Balllads of Cleveland, Ohio's very own dazzling DAZZ BAND!
