    Thanks for the video Kestava. Just to clarify in finding (k) for columns is it the clear length or the center-to-center length? For beams it does say specifically from center-to-center of joints…

    Could you share your Masonry tabs tips and tricks next time? Would really appreciate it. :D

    • @Kestava_Engineering
      @Kestava_Engineering  3 года назад

      Joji believe it or not I did not bring the Masonry code with me to the exam. I didnt know it well enough and only used the CERM to get through the masonry questions.

    • @jojimanalo4712
      @jojimanalo4712 3 года назад

      @@Kestava_Engineering woahhh, was CERM enough to solve the masonry questions?

    • @denfl6605
      @denfl6605 3 года назад +2

      @@jojimanalo4712 You might be lucky or smart enough to be able to use CERM only to answer all masonry questions, there are not that many of them anyway. However, I would not risk a single question by not bringing a listed reference material. They always have some simple look-up questions with answers found in the codes only. Also, even CERM isn't perfect. Compare Table 68.1 in CERM and actual MSCJ Table 8.2.4.2. You'll find that the whole line with allowable tensile stresses in CERM for normal to bed joints, fully grouted is incorrect. It is a pretty common table used for checking tensile stresses in unreinforced masonry. A simple unreinforced problem with, for example, tensile stresses from eccentric load will be easily missed if you use values for normal to bed joints, fully grouted from CERM table. So, the lesson is always get familiar with your referenced code, tab it, actually try to use it or cross reference with CERM when studying. Better be safe than sorry.

    Have you done something similar to this with the AASHTO? First PE attempt in October had 3 very specific AASHTO reference questions.

    • @Kestava_Engineering
      @Kestava_Engineering  3 года назад

      i had like 4 tabs in the AASHTO manuals. but cant remember them off hand. my bad! I can try to skim through and jog my memory tho!

    • @denfl6605
      @denfl6605 3 года назад

      My advise for AASHTO is to move Index from the back to the very front and tab the main chapters. There is so much information in it that I don’t think it is possible to tab anything specific for a PE. Besides, AASHTO questions usually are not that hard if you can find the required information in the manual fairly quickly. SE is a different story...

    Hi Having those yellow tabs are allowed in PE Exam??
    Thanks

    • @Kestava_Engineering
      @Kestava_Engineering  3 года назад

      Hi Shams, YES you can tab any book you like for the PE exam as long as there are no loose papers in your books.

    • @denfl6605
      @denfl6605 3 года назад

      Sometimes they shake books pretty heavily. You definitely don’t want anything flying out of your books when they do so. So test it it at home first :) Some big yellow sticky notes are not that sticky.
