Thanks for this demonstration. It's fascinating to learn how the early designs of voltmeters were done. Reads in RMS even though it never does the first calculation!
Glad you liked it Dave! Yeah - purely analog squaring! I wonder what the frequency limitation of that was - probably the first few harmonics of a non-sinusoidal signal were fine, and higher ones would have had their contributions suppressed. Since most harmonics back then would have been from things like magnetic beginning to saturate, probably not an issue.
Excellent video. I really enjoyed it. I have a couple 24VDC coils laying around actually. I was like wow, that's a great demonstration. Thanks for sharing!

what happens when u dip the bolts in oil when the bolt is hot to a m,elting point then u dip in oil then leve it to cool and then u magnetice that bolt so the carbin around the bolt will it make a better magnet?
Heating a magnetic material and allowing it to cool in a magnetic field is a way to make a magnet. Oil is probably not hot enough though. However the limitation here is the material - steel - which is too magnetically "soft" to make a great permanent magnet. But you bring up and interesting point: the iron content in lava and similar rocks from the mid ocean rifts does capture the earth's magnetic field as it cools holding a record of the field's direction. This has been used to determine the time of the rocks creation since the earths poles move with time and hence the direction of the earth's field is different for different times in the earths history (it even reverses).
Wondering if you've ever contemplated the 'host medium' in free space that allows a field entity (electric, magnetic, gravity field) to manifest a presence in free space to the point that the field's influence affects other matter. Electric field, magnetic field, gravity field. "Action at a distance" A small team of us work at artificial gravity devices and we were all taught in our EE, physics courses in college that "electromagnetic waves do not need a medium to propagate". ie. "space is empty" Wondering if you're ever had a speculation about the constituents of the vacuum. One of the most poignant examples: try to force the 'like' poles of two large neodymium magnets to touch each other. If you look in the gap between the magnets, then our profs seem correct, 'space is empty' or at least 'space is transparent' The immense decline in acceleration when trying to force the two 'like' poles together indicates 'something there that human vision cannot perceive' .
So a very quick/shortened deep dive into the underlying physics: EM fields are really the statistical average of gazillions of force carrying particles, for EM they are photons. With enough of them they look like like nice solid fields and waves. Bottom line - everything is made from fundamental particles like photons, electrons, quarks etc and they have wavelike nature that becomes noticeable when dealing with a large number of them in situations where we can see interference effects. Those fundamental particles are apparently created by ripples in quantum fields that span the universe (one field per fundamental particle type). That underlying field stuff is all in the realm of the theoretical physicists and not something I know much about - apparently the math is a nightmare! But I suspect is those underlying fields that provide the "connectivity" (for lack of a better term) in free space. I gather so far there seems to be no gravity particle ever found and gravity may only be a warping of space as per relativity. But tat all seems to be areas of current research. It must be fascinating!
@@ElectromagneticVideos Our first device was the standard 'Lorentz disk' that most gravity experimenters initially build: 1) circular planform of layers of thin metal (aluminum foil) and insulator layers in between the metal. This lamination (layers of metal-insulator-metal-insulator-etc) is oriented horizontally on the workbench 2) an axial (through the center), vertical magnetic field is put through the lamination 3) eddy-current-inducing coils are positioned radially, and horizontally, adjacent to the lamination 4) RF is fed to the eddy current coils This E x B (right hand rule, recall) - the vertical B field, the radial and horizontal RF currents - induces the Lorentz force, which polarizes the dipoles of the charged particles in the lamination, and oscillates the dipoles back and forth at the rate of the applied RF The Lorentz Force in the lamination leads to coherent oscillations of the charged particles/dipoles. These coherent waves of polarization are coupled to the immediately-adjacent free space. If only one side of the device has the applied coherent polarizations, this creates an imbalance in the coupling to free space: only one side is affecting the vacuum. Improvements to the basic Lorentz disk include: 1) altering the dimensions and applied RF frequency to create resonance/standing waves across the surface of the lamination 2) working at increasing the Q factor (ie. reducing losses) so that peaks of the standing wave (the antinodes) increase There is discussion in the artgrav hobbyist community about whether it is better to use materials with only 'bound charges' and no conduction band electrons, or to use a mixture of materials to get both, or to use only conduction-band electrons materials (aluminum, metals) In our EE and physics courses in college, we were taught "electromagnetic waves do not need a medium to propagate", ie. "space is empty" We had to look past that and rely on Vacuum Permittivity and Vacuum Permeability which indicates that free space is POLARIZE-ABLE

Only relays and motors use the attracting magnetic forces. In voltmeters and loudspeakers moving coils both powers work together for better efficiency. That’s it.

A very practical experiment, but your voltmeter has low resistance and draws a lot of current
Its certainly not the most sensitive voltmeter, thats for sure :) Looked at your channel - seems fascinating - wish I could understand Polish!
