I've gotten quite a few comments from people not understanding why I rub my finger down multiple times on some shades and not others while swatching.
Here is why: There is literally no way to pick up the exact same amount of product on the finger every time. Swatching just once, down the arm, would lead to an unfair comparison due to this fact. Sometimes a chunk of product sticks, sometimes it doesn't.
In order to be fair, when I swatch on my arm, I blend the product out with my finger. This is DIFFERENT from double swatching as I am never dipping back into the pan for more product. Blending the product does not add extra product to the swatch. All I'm doing is blending out the product for proper comparison. Hope this helps! :)

Jen Luvs Reviews honestly swatching by doing like 2 circles in each pan and not blending it isn’t how we are going to use the product anyway. We pick up product until were satisfied and we blend it ! There is a difference between giving the product a chance by picking up enough and blending it a little with the finger , I don’t think anybody plans on wearing a swatch on their eyes. I prefer this realistic method from let’s say the way Natasha Denona swipe a good ten times in the pan or to the way Pat McGrath enhances her swatches to the point where it doesn’t look like what im buying. I don’t hear a lot of complaining about them doing it though. I say swatch it like you would swatch it for yourself!

Companies do this ALL THE TIME. It’s disgusting. They usually say it’s a “new and improved formula,” and the only reason they say this is Bc they know people will notice a difference. How many times has “new and improved” been a change for the better? Rarely. This usually means they’ve changed the ingredients to save money.

ugagradrn It’s awful and extremely misleading for the consumer. You buy a product that’s amazing then down the road you see “new and improved formula” so you think wow, it was already great so it must be awesome now! It’s like they sell a ton of product then super greed sets in and they have to make even more money.

Maddie Bock I got the palette in 2018 (it’s the one they put the shade names/pictures on the back) and the mattes suck!!! They fade so bad and aren’t very pigmented. There really are sooo many brands out there, there is no need to buy a 35 pan palette with repetitive shades when you can buy a much smaller palette with higher more consistent quality for the same price or cheaper elsewhere! 39 dollars is a hefty sum, you can get a high end palette if you throw in a few bucks more. Sure it's less shadows, but who needs all those repeats just to make it seem like a good deal cause cost per pan is lower lmao.

I'm the weirdo who keeps my boxes to everything. I just pulled out the packaging to my Jaclyn Hill palette that I bought at the Morphe store in April 2019 (the week that the Jeffree Star concealer launched), and my formula is different than all the formulas you listed (at least the order)! I could send you a picture if you like, but it goes as follows:
Mica, talc, dimethicone, tridecyl trimellitate, phenyl trimethicone, nylon-12, magnesium stearate, silica, ethylhexyl palmitate, octyldodecyl stearoyl stearate, isononyl isononanoate, kaolin, polymethylsilsesquioxane, isostearyl isostearate, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin. May contain: titanium dioxide(CI 77891), iron oxides(CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), chromium hydroxide green(CI 77289), chromium oxide greens(CI 77288), ultramarines(CI 77007), ferric ferrocyanide(CI 77510), manganese violet(CI 77742), CARMINE (CI 75470), yellow 5 lake(CI 19140), red 40 lake(CI 16035, blue 1 lake(CI 42090).
My box says ACO2D and JH2.
Also, mine does look like your 2017 palette on the outside, but on the inside the writing on my lid looks different than both the palettes in your video. So I guess there are at least 3 versions of this palette. Shame.

I feel so validated by this video. I got the original Jaclyn Hill palette when it first launched. Then unfortunately one of my bags was lost when traveling and it contained my JH palette . I decided to replace it and bought a new JH palette from Ulta. This was in November 2019. Everything was different about it. I thought maybe I was just romanticizing it. Or that I got a defective one. So I went back to Ulta they exchanged it out for me and it was the same thing. I exchanged it in December 2019. The original JH palette are used at least 3 to 4 times a week. This one I barely used because the pigmentation sucks. And it just doesn’t feel the same and the colors don’t look the same. Also I find that my eyes get itchy with the new palette which I never had itchy eye issues with the original palette. However I have experienced this from some of the regular palettes that Morphe creates.

Olena straight up if you have a palette by morphe that claims vegan status when in fact it’s not vegan you can take them to court for many things, some personal and some federal. Someone should start a page for a class action lawsuit and for the American government to step in and assess damages. Saying something is vegan, and then having someone have a severe allergic reaction the the non vegan ingredient in your product, is enough to go bankrupt, if not jail time, seeing as it can be considered assault in some areas of the world. They know the legal position they’re in they just depend on the average consumer like you or me not knowing the process to holding them accountable, and it’s a long and taxing process

So a claim because the ingredients changed would entitle you to a refund and that's it, a judge wouldn't even hear the case. In situations like this it is for authorities to investigate like in the UK trading standards.

But then the becca eye shadow palette where she cba an just made one shade an left it to them was crap. Took her 2 years to make one palette that was perfect but then she has 4 palettes in the vault that she obv didn't put same amount of effort into.(othereise it would of took her 100 years like everything else does) and its crap. She probably just picked some old left.over colours and trusted them that it would be same quality as original and didn't go through every shade till if perf like the original.
Same with her lippys. Spent forever on the packaging and colours which are gorge. I have them and they are. But rushed them all at the last miinute and wasn't thorough in her quality control.
I think her problem is just her work ethic etc. When she actually tries and perfects something its good she's just so lazy that it takes her forever. An you can't really do that with make up. Things expire etc.

This is like what Too Faced did to NikkieTutorials. Giving her a different formula and selling a different. Maybe Morphe is doing the same with Jaclyn Hill so they get away with it and she gets the backlash or maybe she had papers and stuff for that formula so I guess she has kept the better formula for her own brand. Just theories.

I'm not sure if someone has already commented this but I want to mention it because it now all makes sense to me. On the Ulta app, you can sort by "New Arrivals", meaning the top starts with their newest products and goes down all the way to the first items they released with Ulta.
I typically sort a lot of brands I shop at Ulta from New Arrivals because I want to see what their "OG" products are, so I tend to scroll to the bottom and start there. Several months ago when I first got into makeup and was shopping the Morphe brand, I did this, and Jaclyn's palette was towards the bottom because it was from 2017. It also had thousands of reviews and a very high rating.
However, a few days after the Vault palettes were released on Ulta, the listing for Jaclyn's original palette was removed, and it was a new palette with no reviews. As of today, it only has about 50 reviews.
This meets what you're saying. Right around the vaults must have been the time they changed the formula because Ulta had to relist it on their site. Right? Idk, I just thought I'd mention it since it makes sense to me now. Thanks for another amazing video Jen :)

So, there are a couple of weird ideas about this that are floating around in my head. Firstly is that I remember someone saying not long ago that Jaclyn is no longer getting profit from the original palette. I don't remember where I heard this and I don't know if it's true. However, if it is true, and (according to Jaclyn) the original palette formula is proprietary and she owns it, this would mean that the formula would have been changed over when she stopped receiving kickback from the sales. There is also the shipping bill that has been floating around recently showing as the JH palette 2. She herself said this was a shipment of her original palette not her new volume 2 palette. So actually it would make sense if there was a reformulation of the volume 1 palette that this would be labelled as, essentially the second version. Both of these facts need to be investigated though.
To be honest, I don't have anything by JH and I don't want it either. Things like this are commonplace with her and the whole thing just feels deceitful. Why put out a crappier version of the same palette? Morphe aren't being transparent about it and JH isn't known for her honesty when it comes to products so I doubt either would be forthcoming. Thank you Jen for making this video as I think it's so important to consumers that they know what they are buying!

    • @dawnwr30
      @dawnwr30 4 года назад +5

But that was from 2017 right? The date on that second shipment? and Jen's good palette is from 2017. So that would mean they changed the formula almost immediately.

Champagne Pop highlighter was originally Jaclyn's but her contract stated that she only received a portion of sales for XX years. Becca has continued selling the highlight because it's so popular. They may or may not have had to change the formula depending on whether Jaclyn had "proprietary" rights.

I loved the first Jaclyn Hill palette as one of the only great ones not to use it, and when I went to LA last year I even went out of my way to go to the Morphe store to check out their other products in person. I got one of the vault palettes and used it only to have an allergic reaction. I checked the ingredients, and sure enough. But I figured it was my fault for assuming it would be carmine-free. Then when the new palette came out, I checked and saw that it has carmine, which was very disappointing. Seeing that they changed the ORIGINAL palette though? That's infuriating.

    • @ChoochooseU
      @ChoochooseU 4 года назад

B.b. Gun why and how does older unused shadow get less pigmented? Where does the pigment go or what happens to cause it to be less pigmented?
I can understand why worn eyeshadow could do this, or even darken due to oxidation because of ph levels on the skin and other physical and chemical changes due to exposure.
Eyeshadow not left open to the elements, should deteriorate less rapidly but pigmentation shouldn’t change as best I understand the science and Ingredients.
Some eye shows are more prone to changing in intensity or colour due to the pigment exposure to light.
The pigments that are natural tend to do the most changing in open or worn conditions.
I also think we aren’t thinking about the fillers mixed in and how they breakdown and change.
Or the fact that there’s differences in batches, even with quality control testing, each batch will be unique.
With this particular brand, I’m wondering if they changed the filler composition and not the pigments because there is such awareness about using mica lately....

With your level of research (wow, much appreciated), professional articulation, trustworthy and honest persona, and good looks I could absolutely see you on TV doing extended news segments! Long time subscriber here who is grateful to you and for you!

Barbara Manning I agree! I think that Jen is underrated as a content creator in general, but she would be great on any national television program!

@@hannahbella1594 Exactly! Another cool thing about Jen is she is no drama. Even when she doesn't like a product, etc. she presents her findings in a thoughtful, careful, 'stick to the facts' kind of way. She really is a natural and someone who immediately earns your trust!

Alot of people are also sensitive to it, especially in the eye area, which is why many red products are not considered "eye safe"

I think this also might be the reason that their cruelty free status is in a grey area right now. I won't be purchasing from them again. Their formulas weren't that great anyway so its not like i'm missing out haha

No the real reason is that people could get a bad reaction. That’s more important then “I wanna hug all the animals” reason. Most of them will maul you if you tried to hug them

In most of the swatches, to me the mattes look better/more saturated colours in the newer palettes, but the shimmers are noticeably worse.

My eyes might be different but I thought most of the shimmers looked pretty similar besides a couple.

I an avid Raw Beauty Kristi watcher. I was binge watching her old videos today, and she mentioned you in her James Charles Morphe video. I came over from there and found this video. This is high quality content from a influencer who truly cares for her audience. You remind me so much of Kristi in the type of content you provide. Definitely subscribed and now will be up way too late binging your channel!

I bought my jaclyn hill volume 1 palette in the summer of 2018 so it was not from the original launch (the packaging had been slightly updated such as showing the shades on the back of it) but l thankfully kept the box so I was able to confirm that it still had the same formula as the original release. My guess is they changed the formula when the did this most recent rebrand of the palette to make the packaging look more like Jaclyn’s brand’s packaging.

I bought mine at ULTA in May 2018 but threw away the box. Mine is the same packaging as yours. I feel like mine performs fine, but wasn’t sure if formula changed because I recycled the box. Thanks for letting me know. 💕

They changed the formula when they decided to the vault, that explains the bad formula of them.

The shades and formula are obviously different. I don’t trust JH or Morphe so I no longer support them, but I do have the original palette. I gave up on her after The Vault debacle. Also I love how Jaclyn is a cosmetic chemist now with “her own formula”. Really, Jaclyn??

They definitely lied. Of course, they’re going to cover their butts by saying that they thought you were only asking if the website and Ulta version are different formulas.
