The irony is that Kirei took Tokiomi's request to become her teacher seriously, he gave her lessons in magecraft, he taught her martial arts, and he taught her medicine. The irony that her father's killer, and the man who set up her mother to be crippled actually trained her right into an effective magus is pretty sad.
@@RagnarokMasta Yeah, but I don't think it's because he saw a daughter in her or anything like that. I think it was just a means to an end to make her strong enough to be a compitent mage but not strong enough to best Kirei.
she gets even better in Hollow Ataraxia which goes in depth in her time in the Shapeless Isle, how she became known as Gorgon, and pretty unique spin on her death at Perseus' hand.
i wouldn't keep my hopes up since Hollow Ataraxia is a really strange beast and is probably way too difficult to adapt due to its structure. Maybe i'm just too smooth brain to see how they could do it or ufotable will pull some logistical dark sorcery or something lol but i wouldn't be surprised if it never gets adapted.
Spoilers for the entire thing obviously: The original Fate Stay/Night VN is ultimately about ideology vs. reality, and I love how the three routes of the VN draw the reader into this by forcing the reader to go through the routes in order. The first route, Fate, is often touted as the weakest and most “boring” route, but it primarily exists to introduce Shirou and his lofty ideals to the audience. This is represented by Saber, the physical embodiment of his perfect ideal; a hero of justice who never wavers and never gives up. As such, it doesn’t truly challenge Shirou’s ideology too much outside of the occasional comment from Rin. The second route, Unlimited Blade Works, builds upon our knowledge of the Fate route by now challenging Shirou’s ideals at every turn. Not surprisingly, this route is represented by Rin who is in some ways “ideal” but in many ways far from the “perfect” Saber. She’s great, but also very flawed and easily makes a mess of things when she goes too far or loses control of her anger. UBW shows Shirou where his ideal will ultimately lead him, with the predominant theme being “fighting for ideals doesn’t protect people, it only protects the ideals themselves,” This will not end well for Shirou when all is said and done, but Shirou chooses to stick to ideals anyway, hoping to will them into reality. And then we have Heaven’s Feel. There’s a reason this route is represented by Sakura. She represents the cold, dark reality of this world, a world filled with abuse and torture hidden from public view. She’s not the perfect embodiment of Shirou’s ideal, nor is she presented as “ideal if a bit flawed,” Sakura is presented as human, and a very tragic one at that. This is the route where Shirou makes the decision to protect the person he cares about (reality) rather than his lofty ideals. He learns the hard way that in order to protect the people he loves, he must forgo his ideals, or at least put people above ideals. Putting ideals above people often twists them into corrupted versions that are no better than the evil they were meant to fight. No better is this symbolically represented than toward then end when Shirou is forced to kill Saber, the literal embodiment of his ideals as demonstrated in the Fate route, as she has become a corrupted ideal. It’s a great scene in a great ending to the story, and Fate S/N remains a compelling albeit flawed piece of fiction to this day.
@@icouldntthinkofaname479 I'm fairly sure that in the UBW Visual Novel route, Archer's words do reach him and he decides to temper his ideals to a more reasonable level. It is also made clear that Shirou will not actually become Archer due to Rin's influence. If Shirou is about to go off the deep end, Rin will be there to drag him back if necessary. Of course, UBW anime has obviously done a poor job of showing this. They even added a scene at the end of the epilogue that shows Shirou walking across a desert looking like Archer. The director made several odd choices of throughout, but that might be one of his worst.
@Tony Tran ideals don't directly corelate to hope, ideals are just a standpoint which some people just have, but are not too aligned by them, an ideal dream to get a great job one per say, these are ideals that while present in one's mind are not what a person is centered around, shirou's ideal to save people is directly what makes the entirety of his personality, for shirou, UBW and archer act as the very representation of what his current mindset will lead him to become, archer doesn't state that having an "ideal" was wrong, he just believed that having an ideal like the one shirou had, where he will sacrifice everything he possesses to save everyone, will lead to his own end , UBW wasn't about archer denying having ideals, it was about shirou renouncing archer's hatred for his own ideals, as they serve as bitter reminder to the servant of his own failure in life. but what shirou does understand from that is knowing his own limitations, that is what sets UBW shirou apart from archer, he is ready to admit at one point that regardless of how much he wants to save everyone, he will only save those he had the moral and physical capability to save, start of UBW shirou wouldn't have murdered gilgamesh, end of UBW shirou did, archer made him realize how dreaming about saving everyone was not but a fool's paradise shirou lived in and using that understanding of his own dream, shirou moves forward, pursuing the same path as archer but not losing what he desires and possesses himself, that is why shirou from UBW doesn't become archer
@@spencerpurple521 To answer the last bit, it was actually a poorly-executed version of an epilogue Nasu wrote for the anime, although the elements are still there. Basically, what's being depicted is Shirou SURPASSING Archer. Archer's footsteps stopped at a certain point, and in what Nasu wrote, it was meant to show Shirou's footsteps moving past them to a much further point. A symbolic "see how much further I've come", perhaps.
@@icouldntthinkofaname479 im pretty sure he said something about not caring where his ideals lead them, he will follow them cuz he thinks its a beautiful way to live by. Also it is hinted that with rins help he wont end up as bad as archer
I hate the way Nasu writes HF. He add in it very many topics, but he usually never made the readers to focus on it. - We never realize that Sakura actually saved/ always tries to save Shirou very many time ( 9 times follow I counted). We only remember that Shirou tries to save Sakura instead. Then Shirou mentioned in the last battle " although she's going to die, she always protect me.". - Sakura still suffer after the ending. But he never says about it clearly, just mentions it in one sentence. ...
And yet (personally to me) UBW is the most inspiring of all the routes. I don’t know.. Out of the three routes, I find heaven’s feel to be my most least liked route. Not because of the dark story but because of Shirou himself. It felt like he stopped running. The fight in HF is the best though ngl.
@@Sensei.Of.Kivotos heaven's feel was always my most favorite route in the visual novel! Especially the development of Shirou, by giving up his self-destructive ideals. He finally learns to "live for another" instead of "die for another" and show a sense of self-worth (unlike the other routes). The characters being able to let go from their past and heavy burdens of their family's. It's the darkest route, but the most beautiful and emotional impactful Story at the same time (atleast in my opinion).
Not sure if I'd call Tokyomi a deadbeat since I think the og book for Fate/Zero mentioned that since Rin and Sakura both had massive magical potential, but only one could be the heir and get the protection of the family. I *would* call him a complete moron for not realizing that zouken is sketchy as all get out or even checking in on Sakura after she was adopted
@@jameswest6232 Because Tokiomi is a mage and in this universe, Tokiomi is worse than the psychopath in the room. At least the psychopath choose to raise his daughter even though he has every opportunity to send Rin to join her parents in the 5 year gaps. And in Heaven Feel, he got a lot of chance to be at least an anti hero and there he did. He rescued his rival’s daughter, and ending the tourmenter who was harming his mentor’s daughter.
Shirou screaming out that he wanted to live had me in tears. And the fact that it seemed like he immediately wanted to take it back because it’s so antithetical to how he normally is and he knows it’ll mean Illya’s death. But in his core he wants to live with Sakura. So sad
Illya was going to die regardless. She'd only have a few months left to live after the Grail war. Due to the excessive experiments and magical circuits in her.
For me, one of the most painful things to see in HEAVEN'S FEEL was the recalling of two young girls watching a boy (Shirou) attempt to jump over a high bar. Sakura remembers with fondness... but, when she hears Ren recall the memory, Sakura becomes angry thinking it just another thing she's taken away from her.
Just listening to this video makes me appreciate the Heaven’s Feel trilogy even more than I already did, I loved both films especially Lost Butterfly and Spring Song, and the ending to this trilogy had me in tears, seeing my Baby Sakura finally get the Happy Ending she deserved, being with her Senpai Shirou, reuniting with her Sister Rin, and still having Rider by her side.
@@frederickgrandison3609 oh definitely, when she turns into Dark Sakura she’s terrifying. Just that image of her tearing up & holding her ribbon after Rin falls to ground, it’s sad yet eerie at the same time.
It make no sense and it's honestly a dumb and bad fan service. Beside the fact that the purple eyes looks better... At least, be coherent and also revert her hair.
"Justice is lending power to the powerless A voice to the voiceless. And heroes are those committed to the pursuit of it" This line totally blew my mind. I've never found any other line that is so profoundly describing the word justice
I know we are talking fate and Sakura and altoigh I wholehartedly agree, as Keria(SW KOTOR2 TSL) says "why did you do that, these simple acts of cherity send ripples across the univerese, by giving him something he has not earned all you done is make him a target for other less fortunate than him, leading simply to more suffering." So in summation your actions have conceqences.
another key parallel between medusa and sakura's story is that medusa is a rape survivor too, which for me ties their interconnected relationship so much more tightly bc of the sheer amount of survivors ive heard finding catharsis in the heaven's feel arc. like stepping into their shoes as your more healed present self to protect and console the raw and hurting victim you once were
@@cipher-one and even then, that's the story as told by Ovid in his Metamorphoses. I don't recall that occurring in any of the prior tellings that we have record of, but I may be wrong and have missed something. Hesiod, I believe was the first to mention the Gorgon(s) as three sisters, 2 immortal, one not (Medusa). Medusa and Poseidon were noted to have slept together in Theogony (in a field, not Athena's temple). No mention of transformation, may have been monstrous, may have not. Later tellings do mark the gorgon sisters as monsters ("Bibliotheca" from pseudo-Apollodorus, for example) and having always been monsters. I think Ovid was the only one to have mentioned Medusa alone being monstrous and cursed as such. *shrug* Fate's version probably does a mix and match of these - a dose of Hesiod's 2 immortal + 1 mortal Gorgon Sister, a bit of Ovid's monstrous transformation idea, etc. Also discussed a bit here: ruclips.net/video/V2_XThp3dxM/видео.html
I think it is also noteworthy that we never saw some kind of relic or catalyst for the summoning of Rider, which is why the summoner him-/herself is going to become the catalyst, thus a match in personality is sought. Sakura and Rider share this trait of being a victim of circumstance and labeled a monster for it. A monster that is betrayed by those close to them with the goal of killing them. Medusa was betrayed by Athena in this regard and Sakura by Zouken later on. Which is why I think it is fair to assume that the Fate Medusa suffered from the same fate. Especially if we consider her noble phantasm to be the Pegasos. A being born from the corpse of the killed Gorgon. It is said to be the child of Poseidon and Medusa. Other than that Medusa is especially fond of Sakura, where she values her well-being above all, which is a kind of weird relationship, especially considering that Sakura handed the reigns of Rider to Shinji. The most plausible reason for me is that Medusa understands Sakura on a more interpersonal level, such as shared experiences, which is why Rider is adamant about saving Sakura to prevent her from suffering the same fate as herself. No other servant is shown to be this loyal to their master. Most of the time they seek something for themselves but Rider only desires happiness for Sakura, which let's me believe that there might be some credibility to my thesis.
Damn, I was so focused on the plot that I did not see how a theme actually guided the characters' behaviors in this movie. Thanks for enlightening me! I have realized yet again that my level of analysis in anime is still lacking. It did get better than last time though, probably.
yeah i dont blame you if youre a anime only, the movies are very fast paced and skimp on things, there is alot of visual cues and themes they handle with the "show dont tell" for ex: shirou lashing at illya to not sacrifice yourself for others despite him doing that in Fate/UBW route having lil value in his life and shirou wanting to live towards the end the movies do well with a rewatch, i highly recommend it as youll pick up on things you probably missed the first time around!
@@jaydenlobbe7911 I'm mildly interested in reading it though doesn't it take a long time to read it? I'd rather watch anime with that time, personally speaking.
It saddens me that alot of this stuff goes over some anime only heads and think the movies are only good for cool fight scenes and flashy animation Great video!
It goes over heads of many VN readers too, anime onlies didnt come up with terms like "wormslut" . You dont need to have read the VN to say what Under the Scope has.
Yeah, I always see people commenting: Fate HF animation this and Fate HF animation that, and yeah, the animation is GODLY as fuck, but I am like: Could you fucking atleast talk a little about the story, how every character is so well written and almost every single one of them brings a different perspective to the story, the villains and how good they are? There are like *THREE main villains, or well, if you see them from different perspectives their definitions could change (Sakura, Kirei, Zouken)* and for me, they are so *well* blended in the story that I only can applause. Also talk about the very deep philosophy, the inner conflicts of the main characters, and the fantastic magic concepts treated in the whole trilogy?, etc... For that *and more,* this whole trilogy was *like a DREAM* to me and I think that it is a *TOTAL MASTERPIECE.* Before, my *favorite* trilogy was the fantastic, beautiful and epic The Lord of The Rings (I will always love it with all my heart and soul, and the difference with the first place is slight) and then the Godfather´s trilogy (no need to mention anything about this one) but now, that I watched the last film two months ago, Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel genuinely and from the bottom of my heart turned into *my favorite* film trilogy of all time❤❤❤
I noticed something in the last scene, it focuses on her stepping over a line on a path, behind her are normal trees (oak maybe, idk), ahead are sakura tree's, cherry blossoms. She steps forward from place where she was not her self, to place where she can finally be herself, from not sakura, to sakura, the two sides very clearly marked. and of course, she's chooses to cross the line as a result of her new found agency. my god the level of detail so easily over looked in these movies is insane. This is art.
Heavens feel is my favorite route entirely because of its themes, as someone who on a certain level can relate to Sakura and Medusa I can only hope one day we get a timeline where they never had to suffer at all.
@@0000sbsking Cooking show with the Fate/Stay Night Cast, animated by Ufotable. Kirei and Gilgamesh aren't present but everyone else is and it's just a very fun, innocent slice of life show. Also apparently all the recipies turn out well if you try cooking them at home.
It's never really explored outside of setting notes, but in the Apocrypha timeline Sakura is said to have been sent off to relatives in Finland instead of the bug dungeon, and forms a magical pro-wrestling tag team with her cousin Luvia.
I like how her eyes at the end of the movie are now blue instead of purple just to show that she is free from the abuse of the matou family and can now move on to a happier life with her loving family Shirou and Tohsaka.
When I first played the VN, I fell in love with Heaven's feel. Everything about these characters has progressed to the degree where they become something beyond their initial selves. When they revealed the truth about Sakura, I felt like, "That's it. Its this girl. This girl deserves this road to happiness". It's not just because agency was taken from her that made me want her to be with Shiro. It's not even about Sakura being saved by Shiro either. It's about wanting to see her overcome the darkness within herself and those that possessed her. It's that moment where you want Shiro to walk by her side, hold her hand and guiding her to that light. Something that's deeper than love, I think that's family. And to have you define the sibling dynamic between Rin and Sakura truly encompasses it.
Yes!!! Sakura's love for Shirou is so compelling because he represents hope to her, that even when things are hard or even impossible, you can still hold your head high and be a good person. He's her inspiration to hold out for so long against the curse of the grail.
I watched this movie back in September here in the states, because of Covid literally no one was there, it was only me my sister and like 3 other people it was amazing
Hey, thats around the same time my mom died from Covid. My family still hasnt emotionally and financially recovered from that. Good that you enjoyed the movie at the risk and maybe at expense of others.
Man, I was thinking about how it was Rin's hug and not Shirou's love the one thing that brought Sakura back to her senses and I then I watched your video and you mentioned pretty much that. I love this video. To further reinforce your point that Sakura sees Rin as her hero and not Shirou, in Lost Butterfly, the theme that plays when Rin comes flying through the window to save Sakura is literally called "she is her hero"
There is an important caveat to this though, in that in the VN, there were many times that Rin could have cleared the air between them(Sakura originally is the one that tries to extend the olive branch first but it only shows one scene of that in the movie), and Rin didn't attempt that until Sakura was at her lowest point. Precisely because she was steeling herself to kill her. So while its good it happened, it could have ended in disaster if Shirou wasn't there to follow up. So there is nuance to that. We shouldn't negate Shirou's importance even if we want to make sure people are aware of Rin's.
@@RagnarokMasta Yeah, I know, I read the VN as well, I agree, Dark Sakura could have been avoided if Rin had been honest from the start. But I like characters with flaws as long as the story recognizes their flaws, which the story proves it recognizes it, its why Rin's apology to Sakura is so great but its alzo why the Femme fatale ending is so good (and tragic)
@@RagnarokMasta Yes and this is what I love so much about Fate. The interactions between all the characters are so intertwined and well written. Shirou was a sturdy support pillar who Sakura was able to find comfort in. Rin ultimately extended her hand to pull Sakura out of the darkness in an act of redemption for her cold magus nature before. And Sakura did all she could to reject Zouken and the shadow with the help of those she loved. All 3 were key in each other’s character- and taking away any of them would change everything.
I think you truly nailed this review. Really beautiful analysis here about what it means to find agency, to save one life even if you can’t save all life. For me, the main theme of Heaven’s Feel can be captured in the phrase “Everyone wants to save the world. But it’s okay if you only save one person, and it’s okay if that person is yourself”.
JUSTICE FOR SAKURA INDEED Heaven's feel will always be my favorite route for breaking the normal view of justice And giving the the suffering one not the revenge it deserves but giving the life she always wanted
I'll be fully honest. Since my dad died in 2011 I have not shead a single ter, not once, not that I didn't want to I just could not. Spring song finaly broke that curse. Where F/Zero made me mad with rage and the other two I was indifferent about, seeing Sakura happy at the end filled me with so much emotion that I just broke, even tough I tought I could not break (no shiz after 10 years). Thats why I'm so anoying always harping about Sakura. Seeing her breaking her curse broke mine and for that I put her on a pedestal. Its almost poetic (sorta like poetry so that they rhyme). #JusticeForSakura Cool vid Pece I'm out
One of the reasons I love the Fate/Stay story lines is how each one answers the question of "What is Justice?" like you said. The main route if when the answer is justice is for everyone, while Blade Works is justice for a few. Heaven's Feel is about justice for the one, for Sukura. She finally gets what she deserved the whole time, unending love from those closest to her, and that in of itself is a from a justice. I love the way you break everything down and I can't wait for your next video.
Idk why but when it start at 13:45 the whole speech actually resonated with me so such and seeing the smiling Sakura trying her best with whatever small opportunity she gets. Got me
Idk why but one thing that was really interesting through all of fate was the color in Sakura’s eyes. In every other route her eyes are dark purple and they continue to be like that but when they do the time skip and Sakura is finally happy her eyes are finally normal. Idk just something that really caught my interest Love the review, loved the film and great channel.
Thank you for mentioning Rin's involvement to Sakura's story. Due to the nature of light novels, the story of Sakura can often be viewed by certain fans of her to be a hero story about Shiro saving Sakura and solving all her problems. Later on in the Fate franchise, the character archetype of Sakura is often characterized as "One who will devote herself to one significant other (most cases the reader surrogate)". A lot of people love Sakura for her 'submissiveness', ignoring how much the story of Fate SN is Sakura is about her submissiveness being taken advantage of. How much Sakura internalize abuse and weaponize it when she finally gained power. Her agency is important for her story, yet most Sakura archetypes follows the story of a character's agency being taken from her. But fetishize and sexualize her defense mechanisms towards abuse. Don't get me wrong, sexual expression is an expression of agency for certain characters. but Sakura-type characters are defined by their objectification, and sometimes the story just indulges in the fantasy instead of exploring it.
I'm kinda lost at how Sakura is now known for her submissiveness. I don't know the complete story surrounding the Sakura Five, but of the characters I do know, at least BB and Meltryllis are definitely not submissive. Kama's whole story is surrounding how horribly the Hindu gods and myths treated him/her, and how they try to break away from it through becoming Beast III/R. That leaves Parvati I guess, right? Sure she's the "ideal wife" type of character, but submissive is a word I would not use for her.
@Avenger GLFX dude, I was responding to a comment saying quote: "Later on in the Fate franchise... " which means they are not referring to HF, or Stay Night at all. For the record, I have played the VN. Unless you mean Hollow Ataraxia, which I don't know where to get.
I think Nasu have something wrong here when writing about Sakura. While he trying to write about her "resistance", he finally made the readers misunderstanding and think Sakura = 'submissiveness'. What if a weak person like us normal human trying to save someone in the world full of superman and devil? She will not use kamekameha to fight, but will endure the pain to help someone who she loves. Remember, Sakura saved/tries to save Shirou and Rin totally 9 times in HF route. Although she can't fight, but she accept the torture ( worms pit) to save them, tries to not sleep, and even suicide two time to save Shirou. But Nasu usually mentions it very lightly that we usually ignore it if don't reading carefully. Then, in the last battle, Shirou suddenly mentions " even she's going to die, she still protects me.".
@Avenger GLFX Wouldn't make sense either there, since Sakura has many scenes in HF where she asks to help fight despite her condition, or questions how to use her power to help Shirou out. She gets shut down, but she still makes the attempt.
This was beautiful....I've been trying to find more Fate Analysis Videos. The one thing that struck me the most was Shirou shouting "I want to live!" given how he is as a character in the other routes that was.....so wonderful to see him say those words.
Shirou might have been Sakura's [knight], but he wasn't her [hero]. That role goes to the one person she wanted recognition and love from that she sought for years even after falling for Shirou; her beloved older sister, Rin.
An incredible definition of the eternal Fate question: What is a Hero of Justice, backed up thoroughly with arguments from the film. This was an A+ analysis. I will be showing this to my fellow fate stay night friends
Stop making me cry dude. Honestly tho I love how this video was edited, especially with the fuzzy transitions similar to the ones in the film, also last but most importantly all your points were really well put and the whole video was both emotional and thought provoking, thank you
I love your analysis of the series. As an older sister myself I've wanted to gush about rin and sakura's relationship and it's conclusion since I watched the movie
Heaven's Feel was pretty baller. My friend and I finished the Fate route with Spring Song and we both were floored at the Saber v Rider fight. Probably the best animation in a fight scene ever.
HF finally managed to break Shirou. Guy finally decides to start living for himself. And I'm proud of him for that. For Sakura as well. It's also inspiring because as UTS said himself, they are children of war, and seeing them finally able to take this next step to move past their past traumas and finally look forward to their future is just so... beautiful. Also, Shirou x Sakura stans, where you guys at?
@@spar3661 Well, it broke him in the sense that it gave him different epiphanies: HF made Shirou see that even if he's not being a Hero of Justice to the world by sacrificing himself, he can still be a Hero to a single person by living. OUS (in my opinion), made Shirou (who was raised by a Fate/Zero era Kiritsugu) undergo the same kind of epiphany that EMIYA Archer had. In that he needed to sacrifice something in order to protect.
I love these films and i always felt bad for medusa from the actual mythology for her and it always urked me how she was treated and when I saw it in fate, I fell in love with the portrayal of medusa In fate and felt saddened by the outcome again because it is both beautiful and saddening at the same time, and seeing it coming into play in how sakura was developing in all 3 films was both a treat but saddening because everything that happened to her was out of her control. These films man, fucking beautiful pieces of work
This is hands down the best Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel video I've ever seen. This makes so much sense, and helps explain the underline themes and motivations of the six movies (zero and the other routes included.) Thank you for making this, you did such an incredible job articulating and explaining these movies in an easy/digestible way.
Darn, I wish there was a way I could like this video more than once! You managed to hit every point I wanted to see talked about an then some. That deep dive into Medusa parallels was unexpected but in no way unwelcome.
@Alien 👽 Huh, I still stand by what I said but for the rest I agree with you. Sakura is a shitty character who drags the entire route down, with kirei and illya salvaging it from being terrible. Nasu literally admitted to pussying out by giving them a happpy-go-lucky, and normal end should've been the canon ending.
she wanted to kill sakura throughout most of the heaven's feel route. how is she a good sport. she is a cold psychopath and spoiled brat who never suffered.
Good lord, the way you presented this pulled out all the strong emotions i have about Fate as a whole, and i was sobbing by the end. Like, tears streaming down my face, having trouble breathing kind of crying. Thank you so much for this analysis. It was heartfelt, and beautifully presented.
Thank you for the analysis. I did cry the second movie and it's so wrong watching this because I haven't watch the third one lol but I couldn't help myself. And now I still cried watching this because I really did see myself to Sakura and Illya although we have different situations. I know I shouldn't compare or take similarities to a fictional character but at least I could related to them. A lot of people tends misunderstood this kind people and knowing this person analysis and narrated this fictional character gone through is enough, at least get an idea how they went this tough and rough situation. I grew up believing I'm alone forever, I do not trust myself making my own decision and I don't even know if I have rights or if I'm in the right. I don't know if I was gaslit or manipulate but at the same time I'm aware of what's happening. Despite my confusion from being right, I'm still aware what's happening around me and the resistant I couldn't handle that has been keep bottle up within me, telling myself I'm a burden to people so I have no one to let it out. In my mind, I'm too weak, stupidly naive, attention-seeker, pity-seeker, too sensitive. Now, I lash out of people, I'm cold and distance. Deep inside however, it hurts and painful. I was never encouraged to be myself, I grew up rejecting my own ideal version. When people tried to cheer you up, most of them are just empty promise, dismiss your feelings and what you've gone through, telling you people have it worse than you. Then they tell you you're ungrateful because at least people tried to comfort you. I don't know if it just me but It so empty. I look up the people who I know suppose to care for me but they end up the opposite, therefore I have not grown into normal person or I don't even know what's normal or if moral is even important. I'm socially awkward, too shy, I stutter my word, my brain takes time to think how should I approach or respond. It really turns the worse life than I have hope for. I don't know. If you reach the end, thank you! Means the world to me. For those who are going through like Sakura and Illya, keep your heads up and be strong because one day you will meet the right person. I'm no place to say this because I'm still alone and vulnerable but I hope you would know someonw, Including me as a stranger here, thinking about you and praying you find happiness after we both gone through. Keep it safe, you guys are in my thoughts❤❤✌
Thanks for talking about FSN, especially Heaven’s Feel. I feel like fate - both stay/night and grand order - have gotten reps as more action pieces so their characters have been left out of the limelight.
16:54 in Illya case it was a bit different as Einzberns were no longer mage family. Rather massive homunculi factory following the same program over centuries. Not fully comprehending what is the point of it. It's a bit similiar to Yorha androids from Nier Automata. Especially considering that both had white hair, red eyes and adoration for german language. ;D
When I think of Fate/Stay Night, I think of all the routes woven together where routes can interact with the others and, with the addition and subtraction of certain elements, can enhance the the overall narrative and experience. Like UTS said, FSN is a story of justice: personal justice, defining justice, the worth of justice to say the least. Following Shirou, each of the 3 routes our main protagonist has decisions to make how how to interpret and value justice and not end up with the same conclusion. In the Fate route Shirou ultimately choose to largely ignores the reality and situation of things to whole heartiy pursue being a Hero of Justice. In the UBW route Shioru acknowledges reality but still ultimately pursie being a Hero of Justice. Finally, with the HF route, Shirou, when encountered with reality of things, decides to abandon his Hero of Justice mentality and save Sakura, his love interest. Writing this down and quantifying this one of many aspect of the story reveals the intricacies of the overall work of FSN where a lot of newer and casual fans miss because the they view each route as a seprate and largely unrelated story. Unfortunately I really cant blame them all that much today since the franchise of Fate is ballooned magnitudes more than its initial release in 2005 and even from my first play through of the VN in 2009. Regardless, when FSN was first release it was a novel approach to story telling and it being greater than the sum of its parts. Sucks that, since its release, many imitators have come about diluting the uniqueness of FSN, even from its creators, that new fans are unable to recognize.
your analysis made me fall in love with this movie! the attention u paid to a complete understanding of the characters' lives and motives across series really highlighted all of the themes I completely missed while watching the film trilogy! You are beautifully spoken and super mindful of the stereotypical troupes of female characters specifically especially considering Sakura's assault and the troupe of the damsel. This was so powerful!! WOW
I was wondering when you were going to make a great follow up analysis after your other HF video. They really do bring a unique spin on how people view the movies
Under The Scope never misses! Your editing skills are stellar and your essays are always so well-written!! Definitely my favourite anime video essayist ☀️
As always, Under the Scope helping me truly understand the deeper aspects of these characters and relationships. Couldn't have asked for a better video.
The nasuverse contains my favorites series and novels, ever part is so well thought out and always tells a beautiful story, also the magic logic in this anime is probably the best in any serie. Its kinda sad that so little people know about all the series and the stories behind them.
My favourite Fate story (without counting Zero), and Sakura isn't even my favorite heroine! That's how much the STORY is good. Rin is my favorite, and I feel like this story is the one that does her justice. Even Unlimited Blade Works where she's the main heroine doesn't do the epicness she has here. Let's not even talk abt Stay Night she has nothing to do except being a tsundere. Beautiful movies! And amazing analysis, as always. ❤️
Spring Song was unreal Ufotable just flexing on literally everyone the most beautiful sakuga ever words can't even describe how good it looked and i didn't see in the cinemas too
You didnt comment on Kirei / Shirou relationship, too bad. But the VN did a lot more on that regard, its a good point of the VN toward this relationship. Heaven Feel is the conclusion for Kirei character too. Nice video still :p
@Avenger GLFX Well unlike UBW and fate there isn't one solid theme. You could argue HF is about the importance of daily life and a rejection of the call to adventure. You could argue it's about forgiveness and atonement. Or the nature of good and evil. There's plenty of themes in HF.
I didn’t think I could like spring song and the rest of the trilogy even more than I already do but 20 minutes later and here I am. My only regret for stay night was how Kariya never gets mentioned, as the one who sacrificed his entire being to try and fail Sakura, I wish he had a slightly bigger impact on her life and the series in general.
Type Moon usually have the conflict between what did they write in novel and what are they answer in the interview. To explain the setting of Sakura, they need to answer 3 questions: - Why Tokiomi sent Sakura to Matou. - Why Rin never save Sakura ( although she can imagine something wrong is happening). - The relationship between Sakura and Shinji. And until now, they explain both of three reasons follow very confuse way. That is why we see very many theories and discussions on Internet about them. The topic “ Why Rin never saved Sakura” and “ why Sakura never askes Rin for help” is two topics which Nasu never mentions directly. One of the most simply theories is “ Rin knows nothing”. But follow what she said in VN, she knows Zouken, knows why Sakura is sent away, knows Sakura trying to ask her to return as the older sister ( always wear the ribbon). She even mentioned that Sakura endures the great suffer when was adopted by another family. Nasu even mentions that for 8 years, every classmates avoids Sakura because she look very terrible, that mean Rin realize that Sakura is suffering ,too. But although she aware something very terrible is happening. She still belive that “ Sakura isn’t Magus”, and refuse to save her or call her “sister”. We even know in VN, because Rin always spying Sakura, she knows Sakura loves Shirou and never smile exclude beside him. But it will not prevent her to accept Shirou’s love, and really leave Sakura behind to flee with him on his travelling ( UBW Ending). I never understand Rin’s logic here. Nasu actually never mentions about it clearly. Follow your theory, she think she will trying to become the great Magus as the encouragement to her sister. However, I don’t feel any part in VN look like this. -------------------- Not only that, I feel something very dark behind Rin. She usually find the good reason to justify her cruel action. And she fools not only everyone among her, but even herself, too. - She knows HGW actually is the ritual of something, and every war caused much of damage to the innocents. But she actually waiting to HGW5 with the exciting ( although she totally ok if she loses or even destroy HG). - She maybe know Zouken is the vampire ( even Kirei knows). But she ( and her family) leaves him alone to kill and eat innocent to prolong his life for 200 years. After Fate or UBW route, she leave Fuyuki to study, let Zouken totally control the city and kill/eat everytime he wants. - When Shirou is killed ( day 3). Follow Magus’ law, she has to kill any innocent to keep the magecraft in secret. She begins to fool herself and the readers that she doesn’t have anyway to save his life. Instead, she will see his face in the last time. And everything suddenly change when she realize that boy is the guy whose Sakura and she loves. ( " Rin loves Shirou" is the last reason before when Rin decides to save him. This part usually is ignored by the readers, and isn't is shows in the UBW anime.). - During day 9 HF, although she still doesn’t know Sakura is the Shadow ( Rin only know it from day 10), she really tries to kill her sister, because follow Magus’s law, they have to kill any Magus who can’t control their power (to keep the magecraft in secret). But she tries to justify her action by saying that is to protect the innocents ( why she actually can see that Sakura actually can’t cast the spell in the range more large than… the library room). I always think we need the character who can play the role of “court”, to explain the darkside/true self of every other character in FSN, especially is Rin. ---------------------- The card game should be move to the warehouse scene in movie 2, to show how hopeless Sakura feels when she realizes that Rin and Shirou really have feeling about each other.
It's great that a piece of art could lead to differents visions I don't feel justice was a theme that big in this particular movie - rather than the universal right to happiness, the final reject of Shirou syndrom of survivor, etc But I really liked this video since HF Spring song has touched me and interpretations of a same work is always refreshing 😄 Thank you for your work o/
Finally gave Fate a chance and I was pleased to discover you have a video covering the movies. I found your channel a lot of time ago through the Monogatari videos and I still love your content since then. I also watched the Hibike shorts you uploaded when the final season was airing. I hope one day you come back to the long format videos even if it's just for a specific anime you want to talk about
I've had this video for quite some time in a playlist and only now have I watched it, but man, I can just thank you to be honest. Your video, and especially this series about Heaven's Feel, have made me feel so many emotions about movies I've watched several times ! Now I just hope you would talk about Heaven's Feel as a whole saga, that would be nice
If UFOTable did actually start all the way from the Fate route, we would have finally had a completely competent adaptation of Fate Stay Night. Still, I'm not complaining. This was one of the greatest cinema anime experiences that I have had. 😁
@@jarnahmaxux7187 Fair enough. This is subjective. Still, I think the Fate series has been a phenomenal experience thanks to UFOTable. It's not perfect but they've more than enough. 😁
I like this analysis a lot. I feel like most people always just say this route is just Shirou saving her by giving up on everything he cares about/believes in. I hope they make these movies available on Crunchyroll eventually.
"Her closest family was arguably Kirei." Yeah I too would be fucked up and despressed if I had him as my guardian.

Enjoy the new TV show : Me the orphan and my legal tutor the sadistic kung fu priest who murders and torture orphans in the basement.
I sometimes wonder what would happen if she knew that Kirei killed her father and gives the knife he used for the deed to her
Rider is criminally underrated.
At least she's better in this trilogy
she gets even better in Hollow Ataraxia which goes in depth in her time in the Shapeless Isle, how she became known as Gorgon, and pretty unique spin on her death at Perseus' hand.
@@ziggymcdougal Let's hope that when ufotable finishes counting money from Demon Slayer and Heaven's Feel movies, they'll adapt this as well.
i wouldn't keep my hopes up since Hollow Ataraxia is a really strange beast and is probably way too difficult to adapt due to its structure. Maybe i'm just too smooth brain to see how they could do it or ufotable will pull some logistical dark sorcery or something lol but i wouldn't be surprised if it never gets adapted.
@@ziggymcdougal Don’t forget her being quite seductive with Shirou and her respective h scene. And of course she hitting on Mitsuzuri.
Spoilers for the entire thing obviously:
The original Fate Stay/Night VN is ultimately about ideology vs. reality, and I love how the three routes of the VN draw the reader into this by forcing the reader to go through the routes in order.
But why would UBW Shirou still stick to his ideals even though it's going to lead himself down a path of sorrow and regret.

Real hero is Kirei for killing that deadbeat dad of Rin's.
And Zoken... and himself in the last fight (his artificial heart gave out/willpower) and lets not forget that spicy bowl of MT
That and giving Caren's away to her maternal grandparents are the only good things he did.
*Yorokobe, shounen.*

I kept crying whenever I watched the final movie and remembering fate Medusa lore it’s sad
Is it based on the Greek mythology one?
Edit:
Oh nvm it is
@@badassproductions4734 It's not, the version with Athena cursing Medusa is something the Roman poet Ovid made
Is not the Greek story
another key parallel between medusa and sakura's story is that medusa is a rape survivor too, which for me ties their interconnected relationship so much more tightly bc of the sheer amount of survivors ive heard finding catharsis in the heaven's feel arc. like stepping into their shoes as your more healed present self to protect and console the raw and hurting victim you once were
That's in myth. Fate-Medusa was never confirmed to be raped.
Its a nod to the myth
Luckily unlike Rider, Sakura didn’t rape shirou

@@CaseNumber00 it was socially distant no one was there and we wore masks all the time, sorry for your loss tho

Really beautiful analysis here about what it means to find agency, to save one life even if you can’t save all life.

again ty for sharing ur story. If u havent played the fate vn, i beg u to, since it brings out SO much more emotion than the films :D
Idk just something that really caught my interest
Love the review, loved the film and great channel.
@Avenger GLFX That doesn't make sense, when was the last time vanilla Sakura was shown to be submissive?
I'm gonna need a whole video on Kirei. Such a cool character.
He’s my favorite antagonist of all time.
An incredible definition of the eternal Fate question: What is a Hero of Justice, backed up thoroughly with arguments from the film. This was an A+ analysis. I will be showing this to my fellow fate stay night friends
Stop making me cry dude. Honestly tho I love how this video was edited, especially with the fuzzy transitions similar to the ones in the film, also last but most importantly all your points were really well put and the whole video was both emotional and thought provoking, thank you
I feel that Dx
I love your analysis of the series. As an older sister myself I've wanted to gush about rin and sakura's relationship and it's conclusion since I watched the movie
Heaven's Feel was pretty baller.
My friend and I finished the Fate route with Spring Song and we both were floored at the Saber v Rider fight. Probably the best animation in a fight scene ever.
Ong I like it more than kakashi vs obito
I'm glad they gave Medusa an actual character in the HF route instead of having her get 3 minutes of screen time then promptly die
This video is fantastic. It made my appreciation for Heaven's Feel even greater than it already was. Good job dude
You have one here
Sorry. I'm a saber sister.
@@r.k845 Respectable 👍
No I think oath under snow was what broke him
@@spar3661 Well, it broke him in the sense that it gave him different epiphanies:
HF made Shirou see that even if he's not being a Hero of Justice to the world by sacrificing himself, he can still be a Hero to a single person by living.
OUS (in my opinion), made Shirou (who was raised by a Fate/Zero era Kiritsugu) undergo the same kind of epiphany that EMIYA Archer had. In that he needed to sacrifice something in order to protect.
This man's narration and understanding of the story, both are mind-blowing!!!
These films man, fucking beautiful pieces of work
I have been waiting for this video since you made a video on the first two movies, I am so glad it's out :)
Same
This is hands down the best Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel video I've ever seen.
Rin is such a good sport in all routes, all girls are great, but to me she is the best.
rin gang
@Alien 👽 HF rin is a heavily neutered rin manufactured for the weak-willed. She's not rin.
I CAME INTO THE FATE FRANCHISE FOR THE FREAKING WIFU NOT TO GET BOMBARDED WITH FEELS
Sucks that, since its release, many imitators have come about diluting the uniqueness of FSN, even from its creators, that new fans are unable to recognize.
what do you mean by "many imitators"
your analysis made me fall in love with this movie! the attention u paid to a complete understanding of the characters' lives and motives across series really highlighted all of the themes I completely missed while watching the film trilogy! You are beautifully spoken and super mindful of the stereotypical troupes of female characters specifically especially considering Sakura's assault and the troupe of the damsel. This was so powerful!! WOW
I have to say that this was an excellent analysis, and here I thought I already had enough respect for this trilogy.
I literally had chills multiple times throughout this review. Heaven's Feel will always be my favorite route from the VN. Well done! 👍
Thank you for the analysis. It's refreshing to see a new one even after all these years.
I was wondering when you were going to make a great follow up analysis after your other HF video. They really do bring a unique spin on how people view the movies
This was a beautiful analysis and has made me have even more appreciation for the Heaven's Feel movies!
Your videos make me love the Heavens Feel trilogy even more
no words can describe what i feel when a new video of UTS comes out :p
Under The Scope never misses! Your editing skills are stellar and your essays are always so well-written!! Definitely my favourite anime video essayist ☀️
Now, with that depressing route out of the way, I'm going to wash it down with some wholesome ataraxia.
yeah we need that Dx
Super late but omg the effort put into this video is ridiculous. Genuinely great effort man well done.
As always, Under the Scope helping me truly understand the deeper aspects of these characters and relationships. Couldn't have asked for a better video.
sheesh you nailed this man!!!. you're such a good omniscient.
The nasuverse contains my favorites series and novels, ever part is so well thought out and always tells a beautiful story, also the magic logic in this anime is probably the best in any serie. Its kinda sad that so little people know about all the series and the stories behind them.
Very well done piece. Put a great perspective on things I didn't even think about. Well done
9:36 This, right here, is why I got into the Fate series.
Wow, such a great video! SERIOUSLY MAN! This is crazy!
Man you are amazing... Heaven's feel is amazing... How can things be so good
My favourite Fate story (without counting Zero), and Sakura isn't even my favorite heroine!
Spring Song was unreal Ufotable just flexing on literally everyone the most beautiful sakuga ever words can't even describe how good it looked and i didn't see in the cinemas too
Thank you. the community needed an analysis of the movies. I wish all the Fate/ anime community would see this video. You are a hero!!
One of the best and most human route of the 3. Touching and dark at the same time, well done Ufotable.
Beautiful video, puts the entirety of Stay Night and Heavens Feel into a new perspective and I thank you for putting these feelings into words.
The only I remember from Spring Song is me walking out of the theater with wet pants after Rider & Saber fight.
You didnt comment on Kirei / Shirou relationship, too bad. But the VN did a lot more on that regard, its a good point of the VN toward this relationship. Heaven Feel is the conclusion for Kirei character too. Nice video still :p
He's anime only. The real theme of HF is exclusive to the VN.
@@r.k845 yes i agree with that, the problem is that one essential part of the VN is ignored in the anime, not Under the scope :p
Yee..I think you can get shirou and kirei's relationship in the movie tbh.
@@DarkSideOfMirror Best part of the whole VN no contest. Just an afterthought for anime only. Love the movies but that part deserves criticism
@Avenger GLFX Well unlike UBW and fate there isn't one solid theme. You could argue HF is about the importance of daily life and a rejection of the call to adventure. You could argue it's about forgiveness and atonement. Or the nature of good and evil.
There's plenty of themes in HF.
Glad you finally got to see Part 3
Beautiful character study
I’m grateful to this video. It helps explain a very intense and convoluted story and even sheds light on riders identity.
Unfortunately, Kariya didn't exist when HF was written.
@@flockinify I know but it’s just kinda sad
@@varies4487 kariya isn’t even canon to fsn
@@jarnahmaxux7187 he is canon, his involvement just didnt impact sakura that much.
@@tatocezar1 no he isn’t. The Fate Zero light novel and Fate Stay Night visual novel aren’t canon to each other.
Type Moon usually have the conflict between what did they write in novel and what are they answer in the interview.
To explain the setting of Sakura, they need to answer 3 questions:
- Why Tokiomi sent Sakura to Matou.
--------------------
Not only that, I feel something very dark behind Rin.
----------------------
The card game should be move to the warehouse scene in movie 2, to show how hopeless Sakura feels when she realizes that Rin and Shirou really have feeling about each other.
You make me love fate more than I already do. The way you so great spell things out and bring the emotion to the choices once again... Inspiring.
This was very well done. I never thought of it from this angle. Thanks !
Amazing man you perfectly captured the fleeing feeling that i had during the film
It's great that a piece of art could lead to differents visions
I don't feel justice was a theme that big in this particular movie - rather than the universal right to happiness, the final reject of Shirou syndrom of survivor, etc
But I really liked this video since HF Spring song has touched me and interpretations of a same work is always refreshing 😄
Thank you for your work o/
Finally gave Fate a chance and I was pleased to discover you have a video covering the movies. I found your channel a lot of time ago through the Monogatari videos and I still love your content since then. I also watched the Hibike shorts you uploaded when the final season was airing. I hope one day you come back to the long format videos even if it's just for a specific anime you want to talk about
In Heaven's feel, I can see again Mikiya just gave up on his ideals to save Shiki. Fujino moved on from her past to live with her sin.
This video makes me appreciate the film so much more. Thanks for the great video!
It's spring.
It's spring.
It's spring.

this was a beautiful video explaining how much of a masterpiece the trilogy are
Covid could never stop me from witnessing this masterpiece
I've had this video for quite some time in a playlist and only now have I watched it, but man, I can just thank you to be honest. Your video, and especially this series about Heaven's Feel, have made me feel so many emotions about movies I've watched several times ! Now I just hope you would talk about Heaven's Feel as a whole saga, that would be nice
I'm not crying you're crying!
This video made me fall in love with fate Franchise again. I'm going to read the VN again after this
If UFOTable did actually start all the way from the Fate route, we would have finally had a completely competent adaptation of Fate Stay Night. Still, I'm not complaining. This was one of the greatest cinema anime experiences that I have had. 😁
I wouldn’t exactly call any of their adaptations competent
@@jarnahmaxux7187 Fair enough. This is subjective. Still, I think the Fate series has been a phenomenal experience thanks to UFOTable. It's not perfect but they've more than enough. 😁
@@jarnahmaxux7187 I would. 😎
I’m constantly impressed with the quality of your writing and presentation. Well done
I like this analysis a lot. I feel like most people always just say this route is just Shirou saving her by giving up on everything he cares about/believes in.
I hope they make these movies available on Crunchyroll eventually.
What a well written analysis. Heaven's Feel is truly the best route of F S/N for me. Keep it up, you deserved more subscribers!
