Nintendo is announcing their new classic Mario game, "Bowser is Done!" In this new game, Bowser hires an invading architect from another dimension to end Mario, and the game is intended to be the hardest yet, with levels designed by Super Mario Maker 2 Architect Alpharad! You do have infinite lives, but once you beat the game you can re-challenge it with a traditional lives system and added coin and 1-UP placement! Coming Spring 2020.
For real tho I think thats a genuine problem he has, especially looking at that last level that was supposed to be "just fun" with a 2% clear rate, and certain aspects of this one (a tight timer IMMEDIATELY followed by a *shell jump* of all things? really?). I think he just cant seperate how skilled he is from how skilled the average person would be. He also cant NOT think what he's doing makes sense, because he's doing it. He doesnt even do common things that help average users, like putting coins or arrows to guide, its part of why people get so confused with his levels
@@BlueDavrial Yeah and like, he says he likes to study level design but then his levels are just "hey do neat things" but asumes his players already know how and doesnt worry about the principle of introducing and obstacle in a safe space, or showing you mechanics that are a little obscure. Like just in this level, having a little space where you can see a shell bouncing on a spring, that already comunicates so much and helps players figure it our quicker. His levels are also really technical and without marging for error, and not just because of one tile walljumps and small holes, but because of a failure is punished with having to redo the whole level before trying it again.
That line Alpha said about there being a fine line between hard and bullsh!t? That shell jump (and the level in general to a lesser degree) definitely falls on the far end of that line
The Koopa that lost his shell at 15:03 then it fell into the pit so he gave up on life and jumped into the pit too for the sweet release. I don’t have anything to say besides this koopa just expressed more story than any character in a mario game ever has.

everytime I watch your vids where you talk about Jersey Mikes; its when it's my day off and I'm not gonna lie, hearing about my job on my days off always confuses me lol
when designing levels it's very easy to have thoughts like "I'm sure people can figure this out with experimentation" or "this part could use a bit more difficulty", but actually, the best puzzles in any game are introduced in a way that a child could understand, and the hardest levels you make will almost always still be too easy for you. learning to hold yourself back is a very big part of learning to design real nice solid experiences everyone can enjoy
addendum: "a way a child could understand" doesn't mean that they could necessarily solve it, just that the concepts are intuitive enough for them to be able to describe what might need to be done. even super tricky complex puzzle games start very small with super simple basic elements that build up over time
That finger snap at the beginning of the video literally killed my browser. It force closed before i could even watch this, lmao. That's a powerful intro.

I want to see you and Jo make more levels like this. That was interesting. I like the idea of one of you trying to beat a level and then the two of you work-shoping out the bugs and bad parts.
You should look into making better guides within levels for trickier things. If you look at good kaizo levels they have really good guides that help you figure out what to do. Also the community has certain symbols for spin jumping, throwing in certain directions, etc. so learning those and how to place them will make your levels much clearer to people
