Best tour I have ever had. I was so impressed I gave him the only WW2 items that I had collected. The goggles that I gave him were stamped on the box 1944. He didn't have a box with 5-6 lenses that were replacement lenses for all sorts of things. He has a photo of Elvis wearing the same type. Really love this warm-hearted Person ! So much history he has to give people !
regarding the "suicide knife" or tanto/wakizashi (name depends on length of blade) . The act of Seppuku is is done by slicing the stomach from right to left letting the entrails spill out. In formal settings, an assistant would then severe the head. The heart nor chest area was the target. Just wanted to shine some light on the subject for dragonman and his customers. Love the content and hope to see an ancient wars room one day!!
"In the absence of a kaishakunin, the samurai would then remove the blade and stab himself in the throat, or fall onto the blade from a standing position with it positioned against his heart" They would not have had a kaishakunin in battle. He is correct.
Planning a trip out that way soon and I’m more than happy to spend 20 bucks for a chance to see all his stuff up close. It’s amazing, it just keeps going and going.
Another fact, in another effort to not get captured or if they were losing, Japanese troops would initiate a suicidal charge with the goal of swarming the enemy with whatever they had (Guns, grenades, samurai swords, etc.) infamously known as a “Banzai charge”, they would cry out “Tenno Heika Banzai!” (Long live his imperial majesty or Long live the emperor, referring to Emperor Hirohito).
You know how Subaru and Mitsubishi have a rivalry? Well Subaru used to be Nakajima. Nakajima and Mitsubishi were the two main aircraft manufacturer's during WW2 so that rivalry goes way back. 6:12 Whoa! 2:36 Yeah especially alcohol. Did you know drinking alcohol is more of a risk factor for cancer than smoking? See we all know about smoking and cancer, you hear it everywhere. The liquor industry has really great PR
Most smokers smoke several times a day. Most drinkers don't unless they're heavy alcoholics. "Pack a day" smoker is relatively common whereas "pack a day" drinker is abnormal. There is nuance in this world.
You know, there are lots of videos or articles about WWll veterans/descendants of WWll veterans or military museums willingly returning war trophies( swords or flags) back to their Japanese families of origin. It's a random question, but would you be willing to do that if the Japanese families or descendants would like their personal swords or good luck charms returned?
It’s extremely hard to find the families of deceased soldiers. Especially Japanese ones because most families of Japanese soldiers committed suicide or all died of old age.
If I had to guess, if they personally contacted him I bet he'd part ways with the sword. I doubt he's going to go out of his way to go and find all of those families, even if it is the morally correct thing to do.
The idea of an accidental fire hitting this building makes me incredibly uncomfortable. So much history. All your eggs are in one basket. You should definitely think about somehow separating the rooms from one another, just so if one room were to catch fire, you wouldn’t lose all this history.
@@Theakker3B what is he being inaccurate about? Just curious because i know a lot about a lot of things he has and i've also seen a lot of his videos over the years and as far as the things that i know to be true him and everyone else that works there seem to be pretty accurate... sometimes dragonman is throwing out so much info so fast talking about stuff that he might kinda slip up trying to think of what hes talking about here and there because hes talking about 20 different things at once but I havent seen him just say things that arent true. You seem to be pretty fed up with him or something so im just wondering what exactly im missing?????
(If you love history PIN THIS PLZ) The "Suicide Knife" was called a "Tanto" though, some (high ranking generals/officers typically) would just use a full sized Katana. He's so confidently incorrect about so much that I'm pretty sure most of that stuff is fake. The katana at the beginning definitely isn't 600 years old, there's no patina on the blade and the saya looked plastic. The tanto didn't have a hamon or and edge. Just seems like a fudd with more money than sense and buys anything that comes with a sensational story.
These katanas don't belong to a museum, they belong to the families they were taken from. They're part of Japanese culture and each families heritage. You grab and handle them like they're cheap harbour freight tools 🤦🏼♂️
@@austinsADHD this has nothing to do with Nazis. They were taken as war trophies.
