  • Harley-Davidson motorcycles are difficult to purchase, Harley-Davidson stacks the deck against you with their motorcycles. You have to compromise on everything from the color, the finish and the engine size unless your willing to put down the cash and go all out. Even worse is falling down the rabbit hole by buying a cheaper model. You buy a cheaper model, you end up putting a lot of money into it to get the things you want. It always cost less to get the next the model up with everything you want in the long run.

    Can you deal with a few miles on a used bike for one that's already been fixed up? Do you prefer one that's brand new and zero miles?

      Too many good used deals out there to need to buy new. Those buying new should be paying cash. A 10-15 year old Harley Davidson will appear "as new" to anyone not familiar with Harley Davidson's. A used Harley Davidson will get just as much praise as a new one will, so imo, there's absolutely no point in purchasing a Harley Davidson new. Look at the praise Holy Shift's ancient Gold Wing got from Harley Davidson faithfuls on Cycle Fanatics YTC. Bikers love the old stuff just as much or more than the new stuff. If you refurbished an older Motorcycle, then you will be THE KING at any Bike meet, not the guy who spent 80K on a new one with upgrades. There's absolutely NO EFFORT when you have the cash to purchase your hearts desire. A fancy new CVO with all the bells and whistles can be bought by a guy like Shaq, who thinks his degrees make him a DR. Shaq is not even conscious, and cannot prove that he is conscious, because I can prove to his belt buckle he is a RETARD and oblivious! I'm right here Shaq, and your brain is useless next to mine. Yeah, I'm calling you out big man because your brain is smaller than you advertise, and I hate people who false advertise, and if you ever find the balls to face me, you'll hate me.

      This was the exact reasons I purchased my "17 FXDB Dyna Streetbob.... it was 2yrs old & lady owner & it was at a dealership....Motor was stock🤣🤣yes Stage1 Air & pipes but I was actually after the extras done, heated grips, windscreen, sissy bar, rear seat & also hard, lockable leather saddlebags. Now I still wanted forward controls & the SE Heavy Breather air cleaner & buying second hand from a HD dealership gave me the power to get those extras & to still bargain a better price than advertised..... YES unfortunately my local HD dealership WOULDN'T move on their prices whatsoever....🤔🤔 So sometimes it's worth checking out what other dealership's have & give them a call. Yes I had to travel over 1& a half hours away but if ya local don't want your busy, their is always another HD dealership that will treat you like Royalty especially if they know they are getting a sale due to this fact.... The dealer principal told me to get that long sleeve dealership tee OFF & ordered the staff to grab there dealership long sleeve 💪💪💪.... Then they wanted that photo, which is priceless..... I'm sure the pic hit their FB page before I could even get home & everyone at my local HD already knew where & what I had bought.🤣😂🤣
      But I got what I wanted for alot less & I'm still happy. Keep up the great work💪🖤🧡🖤

      I used to like stock and do it myself but next go round I'm gonna look for something with the high dollar ticket items Installed already. But dealerships are charging more these days for modded bikes even though it's not supposed to impact resale.

      Harley isn't even Harley anymore if you grew up riding in the 70s you'll know what I mean. Now they won't even turn a wrench on anything 2014 and below.

    40 year rider. Always used from an individual. Did use Harley rider to rider program once. A big thank you to those who buy new and keep the motor company alive.

      @@darthdurkelthewise320 The dealer obvioulsly handles the transaction. They inspect the bike, the price was 115.00 to the seller. The dealership charged me 750.00 total for all the fees. The interest rate was .25 higher than my credit union. My only complaint and this is personal. The finance guy complained about 5 times how the dealership doesn't make any money on these and they take to much time . Keep in my once the bike was inspected I was there for 90 minutes . When I received the Harley Corporate questionnaire I blistered it with comments about that. 500 dollars an hour for him to sit in his chair and do paperwork seemed like great money. There were no other customers there, what else was he going to do.

    Bought the Streetglide standard, in chrome with the 107, I don’t feel the need to change it, it has more than enough power in stock form, and I am light.

    I bought the perfect bike that I wanted, well that I could reasonably afford. A 08 ultra, it came with a clockworks windshield, 12" bars, 4.5" Rhinehart duel exhaust, a street glide seat, quick detache tour pack, and a frame airtake. The best part was that I paid cash.

      I bought the bike that I wanted as well, but I didn’t know enough to know how I had lucky I had gotten with my choice. My only view of the ‘06 FXDWGI was the dealer’s website, videos they took and emailed me, and the sound of the bike running in their videos before I bought it and had it delivered from 100 miles away. Buying it in the middle of winter, when they needed the cash flow, was another good, but also just lucky, move on my part. So now I have a 25 year old Silverado, an 18 year old Harley, and a 11 year old VW TDI and I’m happy as a hog in deep slop with all 3 of them.

    Good video! I've been saying it for years. Buy a used bike because chances are the previous owner put all the upgrades in it and he just wants to sell it to get the latest and the greatest. You can get a better deal that way and maybe a dealer warranty too.

    I bought my 22 RG Standard in march of 22 with 2 miles on the odometer,Boom GTS audio and RDRS for $23,500 out the door. First new bike ever. Bike had 2,500 miles on it when I ditched the warranty and did a RS 468 cam, aftermarket air filter, cat delete head pipe, slip ons, and power vision dyno tune. Pretty happy now with 14,000 miles on her living in northwestern Pa.

    When it comes to Harley, the rabbit hole is very real. I personally like to benefit from those who have fallen victim to spending tons of money on aftermarket parts and upgrades on a bike just to trade it in or sell it after a few miles.

    The twin cam&M-8 engines have so many defects that costs a lot of money to make it reliable it's not worth it.What are you going to do when you have 12,000 runout on your motorcycle crankshaft? All I can say is buy a EVO.

    On my last bike, a Road Glide Ultra, I blacked out my ride before Harley made pre-done blacked out bikes popular. The amount of time and money I spent yanking parts off and sending them out to powder coating and reinstalling. Then 2 years later, Harley started to offer blacked out everything. I guess I was just a trend setter. Now, my current ride, I love the chrome look. I'd back to like I had 3 bikes ago, a chromed out Fatboy.

      Previewers want to pass the softtail standard off as a blank slate. Well I agree with you guys. It's near perfect just the way it is. True beauty doesn't need lipstick & makeup.

    For any motorcycle to be 20 grand plus you shouldn't have to do anything to it... I love a Harley Davidson and have sat on the side of the road broke down many times.. so yeah if Harley Davidson made air planes I'd not buy or fly in one....lol. Good video enjoyed!!!

    Definitely bought my Fat Bob 114 new. During the shopping process i was very disgruntled at how much the used fat bobs were, or how many miles they had on them. Every used fat bob i was finding was at least $3-5k more expensive than new, and most of them didn't even have many mods done either! The only regret with this bike is that i didn't get on a harley sooner

    My '00 Ultra still serves me well. Fuel injection has been gone through and stator has been replaced. Ready for many more miles of cruising. Ride safe!

    I bought my 2013 FXDC in October of 2013. New was $22K. The one I found had 2000kms on it, forward controls, a V&H pipe, a Heavy Breather, a canned stage 1 tune and a Memphis Shades detachable windscreen. I paid $15200 taxes in, out the door. Still have that bike. Someone else paid for the upgrades I wanted and I benefited. My 2020 RoadGlide Limited I bought brand spanking new in the fall of 2020 for $33K. A 2022 was going for $43K last fall. I think I did alright with both a gently used bike and a new bike.

    I remember going to the Yamaha dealer with the guy that I worked for when he was looking for a bike back in the early ‘80s. He bought a 920 Virago Harley knockoff and I didn’t have the funds at the time or I might have ended a with a 650 Seca Turbo. The Virago had nearly all black chrome that didn’t float my boat back then and it still doesn’t. I’m not a big fan of too much chrome either, but I’m happy with the ‘06 FXDWGI I bought in December of 2021. One of my friends had an ‘80 Wide Glide that I was envious of and another had a ‘89 Softtail Custom that I was also trying to figure out how to fit into my married, offspring infused budget. It seems that these bikes are what my mind set up as a pattern for the right amount of chrome and that the chrome should be shiny, not black. I’ve noticed that blacked out chrome has become a hot feature on cars and trucks as well as bikes so it would seem that generations younger than me have gotten over the desire to be distracted by shiny objects.

    Bought a used bagger less than 2k miles on it 8 years ago. Had some decent slip ons. 5k less than dealer ask price new at the time. Over time personally with my own two hands added headers, bars, tuner, seat, sterio & cam. Put about 30k on it no compliants on purchase next to buying a new one.
    Noticed the black out everything trend with the price. Reminds me of being a kid when skateboards or BMX fad was a new thing to someone. Marketing at its finest!

    Considering I like very little that Harley-Davidson made after 2017 and absolutely nothing that they make in 2023 I have no choice but to go used if I ever buy another Harley.

    I love the standard. I really like the finished on it and they arent offered on the more expensive models. Too bad you can't pick the different finishes. Like a 117 with the matte aluminum

    I bought a 19 electra Glide Police...stock...which means a cam, exhaust and intake upgrades along with a tune. I regularly get 47 miles to the gallon on that 114. Love almost everything about it. Not a fan of the hydraulic clutch though. Takes getting used to.

    Even if you buy the top of the line models you still have to replace air cleaner, exhaust, and purchase a Dynojet Power Vision tuner.

    Really good points!! I’ve had several Harley’s and had lots of fun modifying them. The cost really starts to add up quick though. I had been wanting a softail and knew the low rider s was the no brainer choice. I waited until I found a low mile LRS that already had all the aftermarket accessories that wanted. Since I bought used I got a $2k discount vs new and about $8k worth of parts and labor that was already done to it.

    A good used with less than 10,000 miles but has cams , pipes, air cleaner & a tuner. A new one if you want a hot rod you have to worry about warranty. Cosmetic I don’t care about I’m strictly performance oriented

    I somewhat agree with your video, but it boils down to what you can live with, and don't spend over the price difference between the standard and special for example. I believe it's $6k between the standard Road Glide and special.
    I'm a chrome fan also. That's a big difference in your favor.

    If I had a Softail Standard, the first thing I would do is put tubeless wheels and tires on it. A bike with tube type tires is worthless for riding very far from home. I have one, and I stay within the towing range of my roadside assistance plan. Twice it has come home on the back of a tow truck because of a flat tire. The next things I would do would put a brightly colored paint job on it, and start loading it down with chrome. It would need a tall chrome sissy bar to strap my bedroll to. Just whatever happened to that wonderful time when Harleys came in bright shiny paint colors and tons of chrome? There was a time when Harleys actually looked great, instead of flat black blobs.

    I’m looking at buying the new 2023 CVO Street Glide, but I need to buy the following additions: pegs; top case; back rest for top case; back rest for rider; LED lights for top case; and drops bars for the side cases…………….it’s never ending & a necessary evil.

    Great video, the game the dealers play has made buying a harley not a pleasure,
    I have 5 Harley’s in my garage, and all of them I purchased used, it’s not worth getting a brand new one, but the customers that have the money to burn and can do it, I say go for it, but most of us have to watch every dime we spend and spend it wisely, all my bikes came low miles and at decent price, 3 from private owners and 2 from the dealer, but I never pay what they are asking for,
    After the purchase of course items on the bikes will be changed, for me it’s lights for safety and then stage 1,
    I purchased my bikes to right not race

    I bought a Road Glide Standard, not a Special for my 2021. 🦈 The basic difference on the models was a 107 or a 114. I already had CVO style bags in my garage. (I had upgraded to Rushmore CVO bags on my 2009, that I traded in with 148,000 miles.) I also had many things I would still need on the Special. 🤔 So I saved $4000 by getting the Standard. 🏍💨🏍💨
    And I now have 50,000 miles on it already! 😊

    i just bought a 2004 Road king classic with 42k on it now with 48. love it and tax in 10000.looks like new, will be doing the cam tensioner this winter, so I feel a bit safer. love the bike

    I wouldn’t buy an M8 period. They do nothing for me and I’m a carb guy to boot. Late Evo or early TC’s are the cream of the crop, when I think Harley was at their finest. Reliable, simple and still sound very much like a Harley.

    People spend a boatload of money on their bikes making it their own... It can get out of hand if you are not careful. I like my 107. Plenty of power for me. To each his own. No matter which HD you choose, you will be swapping out the crappy seat. And suspension if you ride a lot. I would never buy a used HD. You have no idea how it was broken in or ridden. New for me :-)

    I own a black on black Low Rider S. There's an old saying ... chrome don't get you home. I even managed to add more black. The only bike I would consider as a replacement is a Street Glide Special in black of course ...

    i actually have gone back to chrome lol. my 2018 heritage is all black and i then went above and beyond that. but black is so darn hard to keep clean and they show minor scratches more. chrome believe it or not is easier to keep up. so my new road glide special is chrome. and i love it.

    bought my 05.U.C. new in 05, 2/10's of mile on odometer. still ride it today, wont part with it. 100,000 thousand and counting. people hear it, say, DAM THAT BIKE SOUNDS GOOD! makes me smile everytime.

    I ride a 2012 Dyna Superglide with a 96inch TC motor. 120K miles. Never felt the need to upgrade the motor to a 103. I don't understand the need for speed some riders have.

    I’m a child of the Fifties when Detroit knew no restraint on their tendency to chrome anything and everything on vehicles so I prefer chrome to black chrome or blackout of the chrome on bikes. It’s nice to find that my preferences are for once the less expensive option!

      I remember old school chrome shops, real chrome shops and that is a nasty dirty process. They literally cracked down so hard on them they couldn't keep the doors open with all the fines and fees for enviromental crap. They charged them every day for unlocking the front door it seemed like.

    There’s something to be said for knowing no one else has rode it and there ls full warranty left. Used prices at a dealer at least are still wild enough I just can’t justify buying used

    I had an old farm bike once. All the engine, wheels and suspension were painted with rattle can black. Sorry, but that’s how the new Harleys look to me. I’d rather chrome any day.

    I'm sorry to say but these new Harleys do not appeal to me at all, but that's very personal😊. Black is the fashion but isn't powder coating or painting cheaper then chrome plating for the manufacturer? And then charge a premium? I'll keep my TC88 RK 'till I stop riding...

    I have been Tosing around to getting a CVO Trike , not Sure if New or Used.
    I have a 2015 FLHXS , with 50K on it now. Still have another Year's Factory Warranty left on it. With Wheel and Tire Package.
    One reason is if something happens to me the Wife can Ride the Trike.
    I tried to teach her ,35 years ago on how to ride a Super Glide. But she was afraid. Now she wished she would have let me teach her.

    There are only two colors a motorcycle should be. Black and chrome. Dealers like to get msrp. Go for the base model of what you want. Pay the msrp. Clean sale no trade. However get the dealer to throw in the accessories you want installed free. Ask for a jacket gloves boots oil changes state inspections. Whatever you can get. Keep the bike in excellent shape for 10 or 15 years and ride ride ride. Then sell it as "vintage" for more than msrp. ....just an old riders experience. Your results may differ.

    I think it all depends on what your vision is for your bike. Take a touring bike for instance. You can take a RG/SG standard, drop a 131 or 135 motor in it and be at the same price as an ST with more ponies. Yea, it’s got chrome. But, why he like everyone else that has blacked out everything now? Unless you’re dead set on a murdered out bike. All stock seats suck, so they get changed. Stock handlebars suck on all bikes….so those get changed. Stock suspension sucks on all models, so those get changed (excluding the new CVOs). Like I said, it all depends on what vision you have for your bike. Cheers 🍻

    Buy a used one because I got a massive deal on my bike.
    Sure my Ultra has a 107 but I can buy the S&S 131 big bore kit and crank for less then it would have taken to get me into a special.
    Then again I'm willing to do a lot of the work myself and I have zero intentions of getting rid of this bike

    I had the choice of a new 09 or a 2500mile 08 with extras. Both street glide 09 black 08 dark blue pearl .. went for the blue. Still got it now. With a few extra mods of corse lol

    I have a '21 Sport Glide in white and like the chrome. I have spent lots of money on the bike to personalize it like everyone. I like the '23 Road King in the blue, but is only comes blacked out. Because of that, I won't consider it because the associated cost of changing to chrome.

    I bought a used 16 Freewheeler with only 8k miles on it. Stage 1 kit. Handlebars etc etc 103 engine doesnt bother me. Wasnt even looking at getting one lol took it for a test ride an loved it 😅😅 i ride it as much as i ride my 18 Street Glide.

    Every dealer has floor costs so the longer the bikes there the more it’s costing him they need to move it it’s a rotation game. When they have a bunch of one kind of the bike that you like then snatch it or lever off that price so that you’re not paying MSRP plus plus plus for what you really want.

    Think I’ll just keep riding my 2008 EG standard. Added a aftermarket chopped tourpak and have had zero issues with this bike. Don’t like the looks of the blacked out bikes either. Why would anybody blackout a chromed engine??

      I have a 1990 FLHS black 50,000 miles. bought used slightly in 1991. I painted fork lowers cylinders and primary rattle can epoxy paint and it still looks good.

      How do you like your 90flhs, have 69,000 on my 91flhs n runs great. Replaced the clutch pack n cable all original 3 months ago n final belt drive last year all original ,do my own work, no problems with the 91.

    Unless i some day have F-u money, I'll never buy a brand new vehicle... period. The loss of value vs. the price for "new-certified" is the same.
    For "Stealerships" its nothing but a push from the manufacturer and quickly down to us without care. Sell, sell, sell.
    Get educated and buy used.
    Which brings me to my next point; buy local if possible.

    New is nice, but I don't want to be in debt, especially in this economy. I do like the Baja Orange and agree the blacked out look is much better than chrome. But paint is cheaper than payments. By the way, you call that a passenger seat on the back of a Street Bob??? Maybe if your girlfriend is a skinny little asian.
