Some how I missed this review Brian. I completely agree with everything you said from the size, to the pitch of the motor. Yes the Ridgid is (probably far) more powerful, but I have half a dozen corded shop vacs if I need more power. The Ryobi 6 gallon is also more powerful, but the 3 gallon is the perfect size for my needs. This vacuum is an excellent replacement to my old 18V Dewalt and I'm very happy with it. Great review!
That dewault is garbage. I will never spend money on anything dewault except the flex volt table saw and mitre box and concreat saw and the 15 gauge 21° framer max brushless. I have switched to ryobi. But i use a 9 amp battery.
Sorry, the Rigid is better in every way... own both of these... Threw my Ryobi out in the trash after the Rigid... it's A BEAST... I even use it to sand sheetrock and its very adept at keeping dust out of the air.
Had that Ryobi for a couple of weeks now. I've used it for everything from cabinet install to draining a toilet before removing it for demo. The only issue I have with it is because of the size and convenience it's hard to put it in your truck without taking the 5 minutes to vacuum out your whole truck. Oh and the wife is a fan as a palmetto bug catcher.
Your video helped me to make purchase of Ryobi P3240. I got a great deal at Home Depot with the unit, two 3-amp hour batteries, a charger, and carry bag all for $99. It regularly would have been $250. It was an incredible deal. Thank you, again.
A perfect review. I own a P3240 and all your points I am in agreement. They really nailed this one. I have tried several different vacuums and this is their best, in my opinion.
My friend loves it So easy to roll around in the driveway to vacuum the trucks, and cars with! light, has good suction, and the joy of not needed to find a plug in location.
Just got 2 in the mail today. WOW! These little guys are great! Fits perfect under the shelf for the saw's and sander, has decent power and you are right, It feels like it's a sturdy build. The only things I see that could be improved is that it should include a bristle brush tip and maybe a stick tube extention and the hose could be 1ft. longer and I will need an adapter to fit the sucky part onto the band saw, bench sander and the scroll saw's exhaust ports. But I can 3D Print the adapters and use another brush tip from an old vac. I am impressed as this is exactly what I needed. YOUR review SOLD me (the $48 price tag at DirectTools helped as well), Thanks! I will probably create a hose manifiold system that connects all of the exhaust ports into one hose so I'm not switching the hose all the time between tools.
As a professional handyman I have been lusting for a cordless wet/dry vac primarily for quick cleanup. Everyone has one of these styles of vac now. I picked up this exact model Ryobi with a 4ah battery and charger for 100 bucks at HD. It's the only Ryobi tool I have, and frankly I probably won't invest in their line outside of this vac. However, it's great for things like vacuuming after a drywall patch. I have a bucket head that I now exclusively use as my wet vac (toilets and such), and I run this Ryobi for everything else. Love it.
I have said that before with my first RYOBI purchase years back. Due to there are higher performance levels of tools out there. Now into their 18V 100+ tools system environment deep. Mainly because one type of battery 🔋 and charging system across the whole entire 18V tools system. Not to worry about OOPS. I forgot about the other brands battery system arrived at job site.
One other comment. I tested this for a suction power against the very new Ryobi P718k Strut (Stick) vacuum and the P3240 won five out of five contests (a tug of war) on a tissue paper. Basically I turned on both machines and placed equal amount of tissue paper into the wands of each and the P3240 immediately pulled the tissue paper into its chamber. The P718k is a brushless motor also, so I was expecting it to win. I like the P3240. It works well, designed well, and runs long enough to get our around the home cleaning done. We do not intend to use it as a carpet vacuum nor as a wet vacuum. We like its size for cleaning up our hardwood floor, corners of our rooms, bathrooms, and cars.
Reposted this here because I don't know if you will see it on the other video. Thanks! I have a 20+ year old Genie 5 gallon wet/dry vac and a 14 gallon Lowes/ShopVac that's about 5-7 years old. I don't need another vacuum, but portability without a cord to clean out a car/truck is a nice thing to have. Do you think this is powerful enough for use on rugs? Or should I look to something like the 6 gallon Ryobi you reviewed? BTW, recently Ryobi released a 2-pack of 6AH batttery for $120. During Christmas, those should be a steal since the 2 x 4AH are usually $89.
Great review. Just a side note, the new 6.0 and 9.0 AH batteries should work with that as well, if one needs a longer run time. I tend to order the tool-only options as I already have enough batteries and don't want to collect any more single battery chargers. I use the 6 battery unit as my primary charger. Again, great/honest review.
I bought 2, one to put on a lower shelf and connect to the scroll saw and the bench sander. And one to use around the house. DirectTools had them for $48.
I think the larger one to me is impractical, albeit a great little roller. First is it eats through batteries quicker during my testing. It also does not even have a blower. Most of all, from a portability use desire, I just ike the size of the P3240 and how quick it is to just use it. It is small enough that I can use it quickly for cars and inside the home. You just walk it around with you because it is not extremely heavy. There is zero hassle to immediately using it. Everything is pretty much set-up and right there ready to go without being too bulky.
Sorry, the Rigid is better in every way... own both of these... Threw my Ryobi out in the trash after the Rigid... it's A BEAST... I even use it to sand sheetrock and its very adept at keeping dust out of the air... couldn't do that with the Ryobi!
Nobody has reviewed the new Ryobi 18v rotary tool yet. HomeDepot has the kit for $89 and DirectTools has the bare tool for $59. The new Ryobi 18v Soldering Irons need a review as well.
Actually just to make sure we're talking about the same vacuum....I'm asking about the Milwaukee model that's shaped like a tea-kettle, not the one shaped like a tool box. Does your comment still apply to the tea-kettle model?
@@WorkshopAddict according to Vacuum Wars, the Milwaukee is a bit more powerful, and only 1dB louder. (1dB is almost undetectable). Just FYI, offering an alternative view. The Ryobi did do better than the Milwaukee in at least one of the pickup tests though, most likely due to the attachment. ruclips.net/video/ED3I3ZXwqME/видео.html
It does not compare at all. The hose size on the 6 gallon is much larger and the 6 gallon sucks 2 to 3 times that amount of this small and quiet vac. That is why I say they are not meant for the same chore. This small one is meant for a very small cleanup, the large one works like a normal shop vac.
Nothing wrong with Dyson, just too expensive for me. But 99% of tech reviewers were all reviewing Dyson. After the 3rd. or 4th. one, it started to get annoying.
That Ridgid Vac Is a piece of crap for anyone wondering. The battery falls out all the time, it doesn't have a shut off when it gets full of water it will just keep going and gurgle water out of the exhaust, its hard to put back together because the latches fall over in the way. It feels flimsy. There's no where to store any attachments on it, just a overall piece of turd.

Perfect for that and if you have a dog, it works great for the hair in the corners.
Just ordered one today, very convenient to have around the house/workshop. Nice review..👍🏻
i realy appreciate this side by side comparison ... love rigid vacs but this ryobi has great potential
That is the only real way to try to show our viewers how tools compare. We try to think about what we would want to know if we were shopping.
Looks like a solid little vacuum, but I got my eye on that big 6 gal shop vac from Ryobi.
Ah Yes, did you see our review on that?
WorkshopAddict sure did! One of the deciding factors in wanting it in fact.

Nice job with this. I have the Ridgid but always nice to see what others are creating. I do like the style of the Ryobi P3240
I"ve noticed that performance with Ryobi tools depends the battery used. I'm curious to see how it would perform with their 6 or 9 amp batteries.
I love being able to see product reviews prior to purchase. Now, if home Depot would just stock the Ryobi vac
Just picked one up today going to try it out
R Lewis You will like it!
Great review. Do u still recommend vacuum. What would 9ah be on runtime
SO STOKED TO WIN THIS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Your welcome!
Great review of the small Ryobi vac, the other new one on wheels is awesome
Since our review of the larger one, we have not used it as much as we would have thought.

Good review, I’m a Milwaukee guy myself. I might have to check that vac out though.
I like Milwaukee also, but this vacuum beats the Milwaukee vac. Milwaukee needs to update theirs bad!
Looks like a winner
I would be able to use this around the shop, clean out the truck and even use this for the camper. #WorkshopAddict

We have one of the soldering irons, just need more time in the day.
I'm not liking the off brand noisy small vacuum I have now and it's corded, so I'm in the market ! Thanks for the info !
Welcome!
I've got a 5 gallon KUBOTA vacuum that is powerful
You can get bigger batteries for the Ryobi a 4ah battery is so you can store on top otherwise a larger battery means more run time
Great for apt. renos where there's no electricity hookups with the utility company.
Awesome review. Great job!
Great review 👍
Thanks! ordered the ridgid!
Interesting - here in Australia, this Ryobi model is marketed as a dry vacuum only, with no mention of washing the filter in the instructions.
Ryobi now has a 6 amp battery. Plus you can get this vac free if you buy the 3 amp two battery kit with a charger and bag
I always enjoy your videos.. Cheers
Thanks Randy
Have you ever tested it with the six or the nine amp battery
nice & cool vacuum
2 solid vac preferred the rigid butttt already got ryobi batteries
Hose size has a good deal to play with the amount of water it can suck up. Neither would be the unit I want if the basement was flooded.
Which one will store in a truck better?
Great review thanks guys #WorkshopAddict
Thank Iggy!
#love Ryobi tools
Do you have any experience with the Milwaukee M18 compact vacuum 0882? If so, how do they compare?
TheKornfeld The Milwaukee has about the same suction bit is louder than the Ridgid.
Right on, thanks for the quick reply and great videos!

Should have gotten some gallon water bottles and use that to measure.
You didn't mention the price!

But the price reference should be made at time the video was made.
I wish Ryobi made this hybrid
Dewalt forever!!!!
It would be perfect for cleaning out the back of the SUV after having the muddy dogs in the back.#WorkshopAddict
How does the power compare to Ryobi's 6 gallon vac?
Did you watch our video on the 6 gallon vac? They are really not something that is meant for the same chore.
WorkshopAddict but they are both portable, and it’s a valid question for many of us. So, how does the power compare?
It does not compare at all. The hose size on the 6 gallon is much larger and the 6 gallon sucks 2 to 3 times that amount of this small and quiet vac. That is why I say they are not meant for the same chore. This small one is meant for a very small cleanup, the large one works like a normal shop vac.

As a car audio fanatic ' I must say check out GP AUDIO they sell a "SPL LABS" - DIGITAL DB METER- THAT IS EXTREMELY ACCURATE!
