Thanks for doing this video. I'm a mural artist and am starting to do larger and larger murals that will require me to wear fall protection. As a very short woman who is also plus size, I have been puzzled as to how to figure out a size without ordering a bunch of harnesses.
@@Ryan_in_the_406 Hey Ryan, this document on the OSHA site is pretty helpful for putting on and sizing a harness. Great video Rachel! www.osha.gov/otm/section-5-construction-operations/chapter-4
@ally safety : There have been real occurences in europe where women ended up with severe injuries (even exploded mammary glands) due to falls while using the dorsal anchor. Problem comes from the pressure applied from the front braces. Thus the recommendation for women is to use Y shape harnesses, like those used in rope access. Sorry for the wording, my mother tongue is french.
If they suffered internal injuries that severe, I suspect they exceeded the free fall distance, had the harness on incorrectly or likely both. There would need to be a detailed study to determine that the D ring position was a significant cause to injuries like that.
I have noticed a drawback in calling some harnesses "women's." Some male workers fit better in a harness labeled as a women's harness by your workforce and of course they do not want to use the girl's harness. When we have ordered special harnesses to fit women better, I urge them to use a different nickname for them to prevent discouraging men from using them when they are the best option. I push for calling them cross over, climbing or rescue harnesses.
Prime example of how the patriarchy harms men. "Girl" and "woman" are deemed bad, so men don't want to wear well-fitting harnesses. Marketing for harnesses absolutely needs improvement. Hence why DEI at company's is so important. All voices need to be heard.
Great video! Super informative and so important! Thanks, Ally Safety.

Awesome! I hope it helps. I’m a big fan of murals and street art and am happy to support.
Hi everyone! Thanks for watching! In this week's video I go over how to find the right fit for women wearing fall protection.
Nice work! We need a version for men's too. No one has ever taught us how to get them to fit right.
