1/9 of Catholic conference: Present!!! Thank you so much Catholic answers for always generously providing media for us to learn more about our one catholic faith!!!
As a lifelong Catholic, son of a Southern Baptist Mama and an Irish Catholic from the North, growing up in the Bible Belt in central Georgia, Mary was always a stumbling block for me. I grew up reading the Bible and receiving a very poor catechesis from CCD. There was no EWTN or Catholic Answers or Ascension Press, so my "exegesis" of the text came from listening to great preachers like Charles Stanley or Paul Walker, whose sermons were available on stations out of Atlanta. I was a Catholic with a very Protestant take on the meaning of Bible passages. Mind you, I was not Sola Scriptura, but I had no knowledge of the Fathers or Tradition. What little I knew about the teachings of the Church about Mary seemed to contradict what the Scriptures said. I am so thankful for the growing number of apologetics apostolates today that are correcting the misconceptions that I and so many Catholics like me developed in the late twentieth century.
You have just admitted that you reject the scriptures and you take writings of men over what is recorded that christ and his disciples taught. You need to reevaluate maam. Are you following christ or the ideas of men??
@@toyosioyejobi309 I admitted no such thing. I study the scriptures daily. What I admitted was that I stopped interpreting scripture for myself to my detriment. I am following Christ in the way that he asked that we follow him, not in my own, misguided way like I used to.
@@toyosioyejobi309 and you ae proof of how protestants interpret everything on their own, with out regard for the truth or respect for their fellow men.
@@josemadrigal2293 I don't care of protestants or interpretation. I care about what the letters and books in the new testament historical account records of the life, teachings, practices amd beliefs of Jesus, the apostles, and the new testament Christian communities
O Mary, you are Beloved Daughter of God the Father, Beloved Mother of God the Son, and Beloved Spouse of God the Holy Spirit. PS thank you for an excellent talk!
Great video. I think the biggest thing for our protestant friends to understand is that by calling Mary the Mother of God we are not trying to make Mary out to be the mother of the Godhead, or say that she is divine or superhuman. We are simply affirming the divinity of Christ from the very moment of his conception.
Thank you Mr. Stables for sharing your wisdom with us. Please pray for me that I may love her the way Jesus wants her to be loved. May God bless you more and your family and Catholic Answers.
The greatest that ever lived; He had no servants, yet they called Him Master. He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet Kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He had no crime, yet they crucified Him. He had no need, yet He forgave them as they mocked. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. His name is Jesus Christ and He is the Saviour of the world.
The *Bible* teaches that Mary is the Mother of Jesus, who is God in the flesh. If you're a sola scriptura protestant, there is no way around that. And that tells me protestants are less concerned about only going by the Bible, and more concerned with doing the opposite of what Rome does.
@TheDay Cometh How many times are Jesus and God mentioned in a Catholic mass? How many times is Mary mentioned? One of the problems is that Protestants tend to equate prayer with worship. For Catholics, these are two distinct things, with worship being reserved for God alone at mass, with the Eucharist at its core. A question for you: do you think Joshua equated the Ark of the Covenant to God when he protrated himself before it? NB The Ark held the Word of God in stone, Mary held the Word of God in the flesh (this is called typology and was used by the early Christians, the Apostles' disciples, to read the OT in light of the NT and vice versa.) God bless.
@TheDay Cometh You're assuming again. Maybe you're brainwashed by your cult. There's only one Church established by Jesus and that's the Holy Catholic Church, so you're the one who belongs to a cult of false teaching.
Hail Mary Full of grace The Lord is with you Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus Holy Mary, Mother of God Pray for us sinners Now and at the hour of our death Amen.
Luke 1:48 for he has remembered me, his lowly servant! From now on all people will call me bless 49 because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me. His name is holy Amen thank you
Wow, based on some of the responses from those that disagree it is easy to understand how taking a verse out of context and/or relying on one's own interpretation leads protestants away from the Truth.
Thank God everyone is accountable for their own interpretation who God is. You stand before your lord and profess whom and I will stand before mine and profess who.
One of the overlooked facts about Mary in the Church is the pivotal role she plays in the definition of the dogma of the Trinity, which is not fleshed out in the New Testament but was developed in the Sacred Tradition.

What a coincidence. Today is the feast of St. Cyril of Alexandria, a firm defender of the title Theotokos. In the second reading for the Office of Readings for his feast, there is a nice excerpt of him defending Mary as Theotokos, even quoting St. Athanasius as a firm defender of the truth.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Psalm 95:6-7

Don't belittle Mary the mother of the Son of God. Her Son who is seated at the right hand side of the Almighty God will not be pleased. Mary played a very vital role in the salvation of mankind not by her own choice but by devine choice. She has certainly been rewarded by her Son who has been given dominian over all things in heaven and on earth. I wouldn't be very happy if you said that of my mother.
@Mr. Mister Jesus is the Son of God and Mary is the mother of the Son of God. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God in heaven and will judge you. Jesus and the Father are One. Didn't you know that?
@@robertlehnert4148 God, (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), has no beginning and no end, therefore, God never had a mother. To call and recognize Mary as the Mother of God does not change her humanity, nor change her nature from human to divine. It does clarify and enhance our understanding of Jesus. However to deny her title as Mother of God again changes nothing about her nature BUT completely changes our understanding of Jesus. Also by Jesus calling Her Our Mother also says something about our future as adopted children which could spawn a whole theology talk unto itself.
Yes! In the family of God she is a mother for all men & women of the earth. We are not a single parent family, you have a mother who cares for you and prays for you, obtaining answers to your prayers that you have longed for.
She was prophesied in old testament in here comes NT she's the ark of new covenant she's lived in a extreme poverty a devoted mother with great humility and received a degree of bachelor of science in lifetime achievement in Revelation she's appear in end of the days mother Mary she's queen of the universe
If a kernel of wheat is buried in the ground. Would we call it an “earth plant” when it produces a body of crop. I say no, we would call it a crop of wheat. It is according to the seed, as it was in the beginning when God created things and that they would bring forth fruit according to the seed. But do we neglect the honor due to the earth which birthed it? By no means, we honor both the crop, the seed and the earth. Therefore we honor the Father, The Son, The Spirit, and the mother who birthed that firstborn and divine king Jesus Christ.
God Sharing His Power and Spirit: Both Jesus and the Holy Spirit are separate beings, but it is because they possess the power and spirit of God that makes them as one with the Father. Jesus said, “for as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the son to have life in himself” (John 5:26). This is true for all of those who belong to God, not just Jesus. If we have the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, we will also be raised from death into life (Romans 8:11), inseparable from the Father. God does all of his work through Jesus and through those who belong to him. Without God, Jesus can do nothing (John 5:30) because it is God who doeth the works (John 14:10). Jesus is our Lord and Savior, but the Father is the only God.

Do not steal is the founding of stability for society. With marriage being a strong 2nd. Though unlike how its portrayed, that man and woman fought off thieves outside the marriage to keep marriage intact. It's likely first marriages were likely males fought off outsiders to keep their property. But on a different note, being that religion was already established, long before Christianity ever came along. And religions were some times maintained fighting off outsiders. For example, in the U.S., often northern Catholics have an easier time being catholic, than southern Catholics. Catholics in the south experience stigma for being Catholic in places where some are very proud to be Baptists, or, evangelical, protestant. It can, to note also, only be that Mary simply reps women. Since at the time the only way for a person to be a mother was to be a woman. So woman is the mother of the son of God. Now it's supposed ly capable for males to give birth( ignoring some stories if Hinduism or other pagan stuff) . But not, to our knowledge, then.
@@georgepierson4920 nope! you are because you did not know the plan and purpose of God why He chose Mary to be his instrument. being manifested in the flesh Mary is the mother of Jesus but Jesus being God Mary has no connection with Jesus. That is why you can not find a verse from the bible that Jesus call Mary mother but Woman. Sounds like an insult but if you will analyze Christ statement you find out the truth that Mary was just God's instrument to fulfill his prophecy.
@@venonebihag1426 Fundamentalists are sometimes horrified when the Virgin Mary is referred to as the Mother of God. However, their reaction often rests upon a misapprehension not only of what this particular title of Mary signifies but also of who Jesus was-and of what their own theological forebears, the Protestant Reformers, had to say regarding this doctrine. A woman is a man’s mother either if she carried him in her womb or if she was the woman contributing half of his genetic matter or both. Mary was the mother of Jesus in both of these senses, because she not only carried Jesus in her womb but also supplied all of the genetic matter for his human body, since it was through her-not Joseph-that Jesus “was descended from David according to the flesh” (Rom. 1:3). Since Mary is Jesus’ mother, it must be concluded that she is also the Mother of God: If Mary is the mother of Jesus, and if Jesus is God, then Mary is the Mother of God. There is no way out of this logical syllogism. Although Mary is the Mother of God, she is not his mother in the sense that she is older than God or the source of her Son’s divinity, for she is neither. Rather, we say that she is the Mother of God in the sense that she carried in her womb a divine person-Jesus Christ, God “in the flesh” (2 John 7, cf. John 1:14)-and in the sense that she contributed the genetic matter to the human form God took in Jesus Christ. To avoid this conclusion, Fundamentalists often assert that Mary did not carry God in her womb, but only carried Christ’s human nature. This assertion reinvents a heresy from the fifth century known as Nestorianism, which runs aground on the fact that a mother does not merely carry the human nature of her child in her womb. Rather, she carries the person of her child. Women do not give birth to human natures; they give birth to persons. Mary thus carried and gave birth to the person of Jesus Christ, and the person she gave birth to was God. The Nestorian claim that Mary did not give birth to the unified person of Jesus Christ attempts to separate Christ’s human nature from his divine nature, creating two separate and distinct persons-one divine and one human-united in a loose affiliation. It is therefore a Christological heresy, which even the Protestant Reformers recognized. Both Martin Luther and John Calvin insisted on Mary’s divine maternity. In fact, it even appears that Nestorius himself may not have believed the heresy named after him. Further, the “Nestorian” church has now signed a joint declaration on Christology with the Catholic Church and recognizes Mary’s divine maternity, just as other Christians do. Since denying that Mary is God’s mother implies doubt about Jesus’ divinity, it is clear why Christians (until recent times) have been unanimous in proclaiming Mary as Mother of God.
I feel like this was less of an informational lecture & more of a persuasive argument. Lots of mannerisms typical of protestant preachers, lots of 'can I get an amen' etc. I was disappointed because 2/3 in I stopped watching. I wanted a history of the catholic beliefs- i.e. when & how teachings such as being born without sin, ascension into heaven, perpetual virginity etc. & how those ideas became canon. What I got was the same old early debates about use of the term 'the mother of God', framed as an argument. So I wasted a half hour not learning anything. Plus the sheer number of times he tried to sell his book was annoying as heck.
The Roman church. Struggled with their dogma of original sin. So how can Mary conceive a holy baby. So they conceived of her immaculate conception and untainted with sin. Strange they not give same with Abraham wife Sara or Elizabeth mother of john the Baptist:‑whom jesus gave the highest praise, no man born of a woman was greater than he. Anyhow how can a son of God be born from another woman born in sin,by their own dogma. Jesus cant have been born from a sinful mother, like king David in sin did my mother conceive me. So they reversed it. Two nature's from whom Mary's human nature, that complicates it even more.
John chapter 14 verse 6: " Jesus said to him," I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." How then can Mary intercede for you? She can't. How then do you expect her to speak to God on your behalf? She can't. To reject going through Christ, is to be against Christ. Anything that goes against Christ, has already the spirit if antichrist. Return to God, through Christ, the only way. Do it now, before it's too late for you. Oh people with hardened hearts. Oh people who are against the Word of God. Mary cannot save you. She cannot intercede for you. What is God to do with you, if you reject the only Way, He provides for you? Jesus is the only Way.

God doesn't have a mother. Just preach the word of God. People need to get saved. Jesus said, "I am the way ,the Truth, and the Life." So much time and energy is wasted on Mary theology. Brother Tim... your analogy is very weak man! "Jesus is God, Mary gave birth to Jesus, therefore, Mary is the mother of God." Man, Satan be blatant with his attempts to continually distort truths with subtle errors. Brother Tim.... is not the living God of heaven, earth, the seas and all that are in them... is He not eternal? Brother Tim... is Mary eternal? Brother Tim... how can a mortal being be the mother of an eternal being that was never created? Language is such a beautiful instrument to speak and articulate clear points, so let's be clear about this. Just like one cannot say, "God needs/needed..." in regards to anything, for example, one cannot say, "the Lord needed to do this and do that," in the sense that God literally was in need of something. No! We understand thru God's aseity, he needs absolutely nothing because He is sufficient within Himself! In this same manner brother Tim, instead of speaking blasphemies like "God has a mother" which would indicate He had a beginning, you need to use very clear and precise language and what you, and other Catholics, need to start speaking is a truth statement - "Mary was used by God to grow and give physical birth to Jesus into this world." Implying she is "God's mother" is speaking something different than "she gave birth to the physical Jesus (for a specific reason)," now isn't it brother Tim? Of course it is! Taking into light and understanding, the truth that God is eternal and what that means as far as His beginnings, understanding why God came in the flesh like He did and not just appearing on Earth, please, then restate how it's possible for Mary to be God's mom? If it's the title/office of "mom" Catholics are wanting to infer, then state that... again, language can be used to articulate such precision... but to imply she is the mother of God, created as we know a mother (and father) are used to create us is blasphemous. God has NO beginning! Hence why she is ALWAYS referred to in the Scriptures as Jesus' mother, NEVER God's mother. Why is this brother Tim?
Jesus never called Mary " mother. " He always called her woman. Praying to Mary is idol worship. God forbids idol worship, catholics ignore God and follow their doctrine.

Roman Catholicism anachronistically reads its beliefs about Mary back into church history, adopting a christological term to use as a term to exalt Mary. Roman Catholic Marian devotion today is the result of development over time. The practice is not from New Testament/apostolic teaching. Sadly, the Roman Catholic Church does not accept correction.
This is heretical nor in scripture does it tell us Mary is the mother of God. All you have done is assume that Mary is the mother is God. Mary is only a mere woman God has chosen to give birth to Jesus and that is all. If Mary is the mother of God that makes God a liar and not self sufficient, nor his he alpha or omega. He was the first and the last! No where in scripture Mary is not part of the Godhead.
You can't use circular reasoning to say something is herectical. That defies basic logic. You must accept the Authority of the Catholic Church to accept the inspired nature of the bible. Then you use the inspired nature of the bible to deny the Authority of the Church which gives you the inspired bible!!!! Once you figure that out; then Mary as Mother of God will be easy.
The second person of the trinity, Jesus, is fully God right? And when he incarnated, he was also now fully man and was born of a mother, right? That mother was Mary, right? So since Jesus is fully God and his mother was Mary....then, our Blessed Lady, Mary, is the mother of God!

As The New Catholic Encyclopedia says: "The formulation ‘One God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century…. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective” (New Catholic Encyclopedia, 1967, Vol. 14, p. 299).
@@cbooth151 Yeah, you can go on with more failures like it fails to describe Trinity, sola scriptura, and most impirtantly the word "Bible!" Can you find them for me?
Tim Staples couldn't get away with this with an educated audience. Protestants wholly subscribe to the Nicene Creed. What does that Creed say? That Jesus was the only begotten Son of God "begotten of his Father before all worlds." In other words, we wholeheartedly believe in the Eternal Generation of the Son. (Jimmy Swaggert and Walter Martin are not exactly THE spokespersons for Protestant orthodoxy.) We also have no trouble with the term "theotokos" for Mary. It does need to be qualified (as it is qualified in the Chalcedonian Definition from the Council of Chalcedon). She is the theotokos "according to the flesh." This is Roman Catholic dogma, as well, by the way. Mary is not responsible for Christ's divine nature in any way, shape, or form. She did, however, give birth to God. Jesus himself called her his mother. There's almost no difference between Protestant christology and Catholic christology. No Protestant accepts Nestorianism. We are simply more adamant in clarifying that Mary is not the Mother of the Godhead. The fact that she can be called the Mother of God "according to the flesh" does not ascribe to her a special status in heaven beyond that of other saints. Nor does Scripture say that it does. The fact that you make her the Queen of Heaven smacks of such to us. It is an inappropriate elevation of her status. We love her enormously. We simply don't glorify her above other heroes of the faith without a biblical rationale.
Catholics dont mean what they say. Mother of God is just a title to them, nothing more. The litany of the blessed virgin mary which I used to recite when I was a catholic, is a list of titles for Mary including the pagan godess title " Queen of Heaven" (Jeremiah 44). Weird, how they add titles randomly and create problems to true Christianity.
@@anthonynoronha8442 A little education can be a dangerous thing. Staples doesn’t realize that in Latin “persona” doesn’t mean ‘person.’ It means ‘mask,’ and by way of implication “role, character,” as in “dramatis personae” which is often used as a header for the cast of characters in a stage play. So it’s more like the English word “persona.” The Greek “hypostasis” means ‘to stand under’ and refers to the reality behind the mask (prosopa). So, again we are employing the metaphor of an actor. We’re talking, in some sense, about the unity found between an actor and his role, or perhaps between an author and his characters. (Except, of course, that God’s Creation is not pretend.)
no Scripture, no early council, no one called her mother of Theos, Deos, Dios, God, Elohim, Eloi or El. Properly speaking, God has no mother. Jesus has 2 natures, and that requires language regarding Him to be very precise. Mother of God is a direct affront to Nicea 1 and Chalcedon.
When the apostate Catholic Church says Mary is the mother of God, it means Mary is the mother of Jesus, right? But, who does the Church say that God is? The Catholic Athanasian Creed says that God is three persons make up one God. As it says: "[The Father, Son, and holy spirit] are not three Gods, but *one God."* So, according to who the AC says God is, Mary is the mother of the trinity, not just the mother of Jesus. One other thing. Does the Bible says that _any_ of Jesus' first-century followers believe that Mary was the mother of God? Answer: *NO!!* So, if the Catholic Church Fathers believed Mary was the mother of God, they can't say that belief is based on the teachings of Jesus and the NT writers. The Catholic Church is a despicable institution that continues to oppose true Christianity.
@@cbooth151 i believe in the Trinity. I can explain and defend it biblically, traditionally and historically. But if you want to engage in any discussion, what do you believe. Who is God to you??? It seems you wanted to play with young Christians, so answer the question. Who is your God?? Allah or Buddha??❤️😂🤟
Catholics are extremely confused. When they say Mary is the mother of God, they mean she is the mother of Jesus, right? But, who do Catholics believe God is? According to the man-made Catholic Athanasian Creed, God is not one person, but THREE PERSONS. As the AC says: "[The Father, Son, and holy spirit] *are one God."* So, if God is a trinity and that Mary is the mother of God, that must mean Mary is not only the mother of Jesus, but she is also the mother of the Father and the holy spirit. But, where in the Bible does it say that Mary gave birth to a triune deity that included Jesus? Answer: NOWHERE!!
@@nosuchthing8 "But then how do you explain that an eternal being like Jesus to be the offspring of a mortal woman?" Who said the human Jesus was eternal? Eternal beings can't die. Jesus died, but was later restored to life. As Acts 2:32 says: "God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this." You say the strangest things.
@@nosuchthing8 "If Jesus is not eternal than any claims that Jesus is God have be abandoned." Did Jesus say he was God? Uh, NO, he didn't. Instead, he said: "I am the Son of God." (John 10:36) Jesus also said he was God's messenger. As he said to his opposers: "My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me." (John 7:16)
@@nosuchthing8 "If you then claim God is a higher being than Jesus then you dont believe in the trinity." God _is_ higher than Jesus. As Jesus said: "I am ascending to MY Father and MY God." (John 20:17) Jesus also said: "The Father is greater than I am." (John 14:28) Oh, and Heb. 2:9 says that while Jesus was human, "he was made "lower than the angels."
@@nosuchthing8 So, you don't believe in the trinity?" Let's see, according to the trinity doctrine, God is "a unity of three [persons]," which is what the word "trinity" means. So, when you said Jesus is God, you're say he's a trinity and that Mary is the mother of the trinity, which, of course, is ridiculous. I don't believe in ridiculous things. So, therefore, I don't believe in the trinity. And for that matter, neither did Jesus or his followers.
@@nosuchthing8 "Remember Christianity is a monotheistic religion. So there is only one God head." Catholics believe the Godhead is triune and that the Father, Son, and holy spirit are co-equal in glory and co-eternal in majesty. So, where in your Bible does it speak of a triune Godhead?

Theotokos properly rendered is bearer of God; not mother of God. God properly speaking has no mother. The human nature of Christ does have a mother. A mother preceeds the child. Nothing preceeds any member of the Trinity.
The concept of Mother of God is possibly understandable if Jesus was God. He disassociated himself from any such notion. John 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God; exercise faith ALSO IN ME.
A biological / earthly mother is a MOTHER! Because God chose to have a mother in the bubble of space and time (earth), that is why Mary is the Mother of the Lord God. Jesus means GOD SAVES or GOD THE SAVIOR in Hebrew, that is why Mary is the mother of GOD THE SAVIOR. He is also called "IMMANUEL" in the prophesy of Isaiah 7:14 meaning GOD WITH US in Hebrew, this is why Mary is the true mother of God ! God chose to have a mother in the bubble of space and time because God humbled himself to the world, men and angels. PHIL 2:6-8 ; HEB 2:9 PHILIPPIANS 2:6-8 6 Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man. 8 He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross. HEBREWS 2:9 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour: that, through the grace of God, he might taste death for all. Jesus is God ! The Trinity is inseparable. God chose to have a mother read LUKE 1 ! Are you making Elizabeth a liar when she said that Jesus is His Lord in LUKE 1:43 when she met Mary was about to approach her ? LUKE 1:43 [ And whence is this to me, that THE MOTHER OF MY LORD should come to me? ] The Lord Jesus Christ has a mother and He is God, so the Lord God Jesus Christ has a mother. When the Lord Jesus Christ was born by Mary, He is no longer simply Jesus as God, but rather, He became Jesus as God who became Man (JOHN 1:14) or Jesus as God who was manifested in the flesh (1 TIMOTHY 3:16).

God bless you Sir Tim, thank you for defending our catholic faith.

Great video. I think the biggest thing for our protestant friends to understand is that by calling Mary the Mother of God we are not trying to make Mary out to be the mother of the Godhead, or say that she is divine or superhuman. We are simply affirming the divinity of Christ from the very moment of his conception.

The *Bible* teaches that Mary is the Mother of Jesus, who is God in the flesh. If you're a sola scriptura protestant, there is no way around that. And that tells me protestants are less concerned about only going by the Bible, and more concerned with doing the opposite of what Rome does.
Very true

@TheDay Cometh Jesus has a Mother and She is Mary. Jesus is our Lord and Savior. There's one God in three persons, Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

God Sharing His Power and Spirit:
Both Jesus and the Holy Spirit are separate beings, but it is because they possess the power and spirit of God that makes them as one with the Father.

So, you do not believe that Jesus is God because Mary is Jesus' mother.

Your understanding of the title "Mother of God" is wrong.

Only a foolish person would make the assumption that I know nothing about the early church fathers. However, here is something that you likely don't know. The early church fathers didn't believe in a mythical trinity. 14, p. 299).

(Jimmy Swaggert and Walter Martin are not exactly THE spokespersons for Protestant orthodoxy.)
We also have no trouble with the term "theotokos" for Mary.

A little education can be a dangerous thing. Staples doesn’t realize that in Latin “persona” doesn’t mean ‘person.’ It means ‘mask,’ and by way of implication “role, character,” as in “dramatis personae” which is often used as a header for the cast of characters in a stage play. So it’s more like the English word “persona.”
The Greek “hypostasis” means ‘to stand under’ and refers to the reality behind the mask (prosopa).
As it says: "[The Father, Son, and holy spirit] are not three Gods, but *one God."*
So, according to who the AC says God is, Mary is the mother of the trinity, not just the mother of Jesus.
