    Thank you, Will, for pointing out the issues of these regs! It seems like the guys on SkyF1 yesterday were clearly trying to push the FIA narrative that these regs are absolutely delivering. F1 is not just about overtaking.. but hoping that the racing can improve with the drivers being listened to😄

      SkyF1 seems to have been batting for the establishment for a while now. They're constantly smoothing things over for those in power and sometimes are even actively taking part in direct cover-ups. It does not bode well on any front, especially as they're following the orders of power-hungry control freaks. One day we'll realise that the media is the enemy and is just a voicepiece for power.

      Sky F1 is a joke anymore ok for only a few min at a time....they are almost as bad as the bespoke F1TV commentary anything negative is sugar coated or swept under a rug. Most anything questionable is supported and promoted. They are an extension of F1 marketing Inc.

    I think 'overtake' is a strong word at the moment. Positions are being swapped but only briefly, and not that many overtakes actually stuck. It's just a yoyo effect of the battery

      exactly. they are like wow 150 overtakes F1 has never been this good. but its 500 bhp against 1000 bhp. on the next straight the roles get reversed and wow, another overtake.

    No mention of Colapinto - the unsung hero of the race for dodging Lawson at the start. Apparently it was a 100kph speed difference - if it weren't for Colapinto's lightning reflexes, we'd be having a very different set of discussions right now. At least people are starting to realize there's a problem with battery drain on the formation lap.

    • @scottnash70
      @scottnash70 Month ago

      @Phantom4evr Either that or the exact opposite - the races will turn into snooze fests because attempting to gain position robs you of the battery regen needed to maintain the position after the overtake. It's clear from the formation lap battery discharge issue that the FIA didn't consider how battery usage and regen would change when there are 22 cars on the track. Monaco might as well stop after quali - they race will be nothing more than a parade.

    I think it looks promising. Of course there is a lot of room for development, but there was a lot less talk about tires and zero penalties for exceeding track limits, which is a huge step forward in my opinion.

    • @pedi4KinGz
      @pedi4KinGz Month ago +1

      Absolutely agree but it has a lot more to do that the cars are slower don't you think. Just wait for Silverstone, Spa and Bacau...half way down the straight the cars start slowing down to harvest power for the battery. So from say 340 kph down to 310 kph. That is not racing, its a joke.

    • @RoyNusser
      @RoyNusser Month ago +1

      @pedi4KinGz
      Yeah, you may be right. I just hope that they will be able work something out by then. Listening to the cars lose momentum right before turn 9 was a bit depressing.
      But regarding track limits, I think it's due to the cars being smaller and more agile. It was noticeable in the slower areas of the track as well.
      There's a lot to digest. With the large battery boost, it may also be too dangerous on tight tracks like Monaco.
      If I could choose, I'd go back to the 2005 rules and regs. but with slick tires. 😁

    F1 has gone from being grip-limited - watching great drivers dance on the edge of adhesion through fast corners - to… “Wow, did you see that? He braked into that fast bend, downshifted to a snail’s pace so he could recharge the battery, then blasted off in a straight line.”

    I'm with Naomi and Jolie, we've had a glimpse of what Kimi can do. A bit late, but they were lousy regulations for drivers last year, but then, so are these. But what we saw in mentality and performance was very impressive. Ok, P2 is down to the car, but to put in that lap immediately after you've totalled the car was mega! Same in the race from being stuck on the grid. I still don't think he'll equal George, who is probably the most grossly underestimated driver right now. We never really hear much praise for him by comparison to the awe reserved for Max or for the top half of our set of very impressive new drivers of the last few years. He was very likely driver of the season last year and I think we should start to appreciate - one or two curiosities aside - quite how dependable George's performances have been, going all the way back to Williams! And we shouldn't forget that he substantially outperformed a 7-time World Champion often touted as the GOAT. In terms of delivering what the team wants, Max and George are in a different class, and have been for a while now!
    I have no particular favouritism for George - I'm generally just an F1 fan - but I don't think his reputation yet reflects his performances. Still, if there's one thing F1 is getting right, it's getting new drivers in. We've had a treat for quite a few years now, ever since Max, Lando, George et al. came in. Their preparedness has been quite astonishing, probably thanks to the high water mark originally set by Lewis on his debut. Whatever you do, don't let the FIA anywhere near driver selection! 🤣🤣

    I appreciate Will correctly saying how damaging it was for Aston Martin to throw Honda under the bus even before Australia started. Yes, this might fall squarely on Honda, but there's a way to handle the "blame game" in an adult manner. Imagine being a Honda engineer now having to listen to Adrian Newey publicly say the engineers essentially "suck". It's a LONG season ahead and would've been more constructive to see how both parties are going to structure a plan to get back into this year's racing scheme.

      Which has never happened in F1, due to many factors over the history of F1 be it due to poor reliability causing drivers to slow down so as not to over stress the car, fuel limits both flow rates and amount of fuel carried or a need to preserve tyres, never mind all of the times the FIA has deliberately slowed the cars down by regulation change as they were getting too fast for the actual tracks and were getting to be very dangerous for the drivers.
      The idea of F1 cars racing at 100% of their capabilities throughout a race is total fantasy and has never happened.

      @ralphhathaway-coley5460can't happen and hasn't happened yet are two completely different things. There are plenty of ways to make things better than they are.
      An FI 8 cylinder without the electrical batteries is a much simpler and much more studied approach which can give both the power output and the reliability that hybrid can't. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make by making excuses and justifications for a power unit combo that should not be considered until there was more time to flesh out all of these issues.
      Quit trying to rationalize it. You can clearly see how many people would rather have consistent peak racing rather than the lame coasting that's needed just to potentially win.

      It’s reminiscent of Indy racing, which delivers a lot more action than F1 historically has seen. BTW, a 1-0 futbol match sucks too.

      @Phoenix-Winofunny you mention that because I'm photographing the indycar race in Arlington this weekend. Fwiw I have a full Sim setup and have a lot of time behind both formula and indy cars. It's obviously not perfect to mimic but it's a very different way to drive them. Love when formula drivers find out indy has no ps 😂.

      @Seahawknate85 Nowhere did I attempt to justify the current power setup, that is something you have assumed .
      I was merely pointing out that F1 has NEVER been 100% flat out/peak racing, that is just some fantasy people have invented.

    13:01 always find it fascinating how EVERYONE who doesn’t have control over the decision could see and would have pitted one car directly. But the ones in charge who can actually make the decision don’t do it… like AAAAARRGGHHH.

    8:29 could someone explain how and why mercedes pulled up to the grid with zero percent? - to me it sounds like going to a race and not out fuel in the car…

    Predicting overtakes from the couch is become unavailable, in have a big problem having/seeing a strategy from home i am just sitting there and let it come over me.....
    Yeah action!!! good action...... still in the middle....... for now, ... NOPE!!!
    Also, tyres, ...... same speed, just durability........

    If Aston Martin “did a good job” then Cadillac are basically championship contenders.

    10:44 I don't it's overtaking when you're just swapping the battery charge. If you are not even on the limit of adhesion through T9, what is racing? Even less tire wear because of no high speed turns will ever go to limits of adhesion. How will Silverstone feel!?

      it wasnt the first time around. max and arvid ptited during the second one. Ferrari didnt take it then it was closed on the next lap but it was open on the next lap and would have ended after they left but they wouldnt have known that

      Ferrari had 12 seconds to jump into pit and they didn't. Strategist should have realized immediately that Botas car was too close to pit entrance and called them in immediately.
