I struggle against classmates at tournaments. Even though I have more experience (and am rated higher), I find that their knowledge of my 2nd (and even 3rd intention tendencies) works against me.

As someone who mostly competes in smaller, local events(USA Region 6), I don't generally enjoy fencing clubmates at tournaments just because that's when I like to see how what I've learned holds up against people that don't know how I fence nor I them. Fencing a clubmate often makes me feel a bit like "Why have I spent the money and time traveling just to fence the same person I fence multiple times every week?"

    Great vid.
Glad I am one of the first to watch.
I think one thing that would have been great to hear is the amount of provocation Cannone was dishing out. Middleton made literally 2-3 bad mistakes all match, which turned out to be those late-stage ripostes in his back. I'm still a newb here, but man, watching him open up that distance (just enough) each time after a provocation was super systematic, like preying on our primal instincts to respond when threatened. It was the difference maker in my opinion, even against a teammate which is arguably more complex (as you stated early on).
    Cannone's literally the terminator. 😅
    (How'd I do?)

    Loving the new logo!
Far too often Ive travelled abroad with club mates only to fence them. Definitely have trouble motivating myself to push through the "I really travelled all the way here for this"

I feel like when fencing teammates I tend to focus too much on things that “have worked” in the past and either overthinks the situation or over fixates on wanting to do a specific move that might not be ideal.
If I want to do something by “experience” it always went to 14-14, but if I just clear my mind and just stab places my guts are telling me to I tend to win.
