It’s so interesting to get a snapshot of life as our parent’s generation knew it. They really straddled the past and the modern era. This was wonderful.
That's a great way to think of it. It would be another 6 years before I would be on the scene...and being born in Edinburgh I knew nought of this lifestyle.
Brings the books of Peter Buchan right back to me. I have them stored away safe, great books they were too. Laugh out loud books, but with serious stuff too.
Hello , although these days had their hard times and struggles , I still feel somewhat sad that young people of today will never taste the simpler life of yesterday and for my thinking a happier one ?
A Scotland and Britain now sadly consigned to history. The whole place is a cowp now, both Scotland and Britain, an unrecognisable country. Oh I know it wasn’t perfect but it is beyond the pale now. I weep for my country.
The days of the old Scotland, but my love for bonny scotland will always remain the same, the pipes are a good reminder. Edward Scott bonny Dundee Scotland.
Hello … a few years after that film was made , a haddock supper was 9d in old money , ….. four and a half pence in todays money , ……. A mince pie fae the baker was a threepenny again in old money , … so 4 pies for a shilling , that’s 5 pence in todays money , noo they are more than £1 each ( pies made the same way then as now )
@@mr.145 hi again , I suppose the list goes on and on and on ! …. Scottish blend teabags in the co-op mintlaw near peterheed £11.50 !!! Two weeks later it dropped to £8 …… ASDA - £5.50. Pays to look around ! If it keeps going , an egg will cost a fiver ! Ha ha
*deep breathe in and say Hi! on the inward breath* “H’aye!”….they do the same thing in scandi countries ana. Although they say “H’Yah”..same thing tho.
It's not excessive it's completely natural, and actually the narrator is toning it down for a wider audience. Go to The Broch or any town round about and you'll hear it everywhere.
Another nice glimpse through the mists of the decades to a bygone era. Thanks for making it available to us. Atb...Terry
I love these old films. Glad I came across em! Really Nice to watch something Decent again in this crazy world.❤

love these old clips
I thoroughly enjoyed this! It’s silly, but it brought a tear to my eyes. ❤️
And why not, indeed? A bit of nostalgia welling is fine.🙂
Irene, there is absolutely nothing silly showing your emotions of a past that some of us hanker for very much.

Hello , “. The Dunderheed “ comes immediately to mind !
I don't know Peter Buchan's books. I should look them up online. Ah, just found a couple!

England and Scotland are currently 💩💩. This was another time. Never to return. It was all thrown away after the War.
Every country in Europe is turning that way now though, courtesy of the WEF😡

I used to live in Gamrie
The opening credit images are a mirror images of the Broch breakwater. D'oh! Also that narrator is using a very posh version of Doric.
A fair bit o pan loaf gan on.😊
What a great time
To live life seems so easy
And simple
Are you mental? How is that a easy and simple life time? Are you ignorant of the way society was then ??

Did the cows in the factory get to go outside?
Yes. They came inside to be milked.
😂you sound like me-always concerned about the Critters!✌️
Wish you would go inside, out of the way.
Is that Crovie at 5:05?

The excessive Scots accent is a bit much. Charming nevertheless. Long gone today.
The accent is not Scots it is the Doric and far from being long gone it is alive and well all over the north east
