i’ve dealt with mental health issues for almost a decade now, since i was 13 and it peaked when i had suicidal thoughts and attempted at 17. fast forward 5 years i’ve been okay-ish up until 6 months ago. i’m now in the darkest, lowest, and most difficult point in my life thus far. i won’t go into too much detail, but i’ve been struggling really bad. being an adult with mental health issues is a god damn nightmare, especially when you’re dealing with severe heartbreak, financial loss, family issues and live in a toxic environment that just exacerbates your illness.
i’m a hot mess rn, and these videos are hitting close to home. i have a few good online friends that are there for me when they’re able to be, but we’re all in our early-mid 20s so they’re usually very busy. no one in real life has bothered to reach out to me, despite me always checking on them and giving them advice and shit when they need a shoulder to cry on. i’m just tired of being tired, tired of being strong, tired of the same old cliché “it’ll get better” “hang in there” like yeah, i know, but we’re in the present, not the future. if i wanted basic ass recycled quotes i’d go on pinterest, but i digress.
lmao anyway, all that to say- thanks Psych2Go for all that you do. you’re brilliant and help millions of people go through everyday life. everyday is a battle for me, a battle i’ve been dealing with for a decade that has somehow gotten even worse in the past few months, this month especially. i’m still going to keep trudging on though, one day at a time. i hope anyone reading this knows they aren’t alone. my suicidal thoughts, although passive, are back and that scares me. i really didn’t wanna fall back into this hole, but life is unpredictable.
please, reach out for help if you can, and if you don’t necessarily suffer from mental health issues pleaseee check on your friends. it’s very hard for all of us right now, but coupled with sickness it’s unbearable. i don’t want to leave this earth just yet, but i also cannot handle feeling like this. for legal reasons, i am safe lol but i feel like people sugarcoat these things, and that’s not healthy. it’s a dark, horrible place to be in and people need to realise that or it’ll never get taken seriously by people who don’t understand mental illness. it’s just as valid as any physical ailment. however, these comments show how none of us are truly alone, even if it feels that way. one day at a time is what i tell myself, sometimes one hour at a time. life is hard, but we don’t have to go through it alone.
this was way longer than intended, i guess i just needed to vent haha. my points still stand. all of you are loved, deeply, even if you don’t believe it. the pain is temporary, everything is temporary. take that how you will. much love xx ❤️❤️

There's a trick that helps me, it might help you. If I cook and eat spinach from the stove once a day for 2 weeks, dumping turmeric and cinnomon in it, I feel better. I'm not sure why this is, but all 3 ingredients are great for brain health, so maybe that's it? I know, it sounds made-up, but it works for me.
I'm sorry I can't help more as a stranger on the internet, but things get better. I was a complete mess until around 5 years ago, and then my brain chemistry changed or something and now most days are decent. Not all, and I went through a VERY dark mindset about 6 weeks ago. Made it through, though.

I also want to add something I've noticed over many years: eat more red meat. When I eat a good amount of that, typically the next day I feel much better, but not always.
If that's too expensive or doesn't appear to be working, try eating organ meats, which are WAY more nutritious, less expensive, but way less appetizing and normalized. When I eat Beef liver, I can eat a small amount, but it boosts my mood way more for much less money and portion size.

For me I think I have bad anxiety and almost bordering on depression I've been overthinking and don't enjoy anything I loved doing before I may get up and grab my pencil to draw but most times I lay in bed thinking and panicking once every now and then I might think to myself "why don't I just give up? I can't take all this stress anymore" my mom took me to the doctor and they told me I have high blood pressure sense I don't eat a lot of sodium it was chalked up to stress from the pandemic, online school, grades, my brother going to jail etc. I try to stay positive around everyone because I don't want them to leave me so I keep my feelings to myself but I tell myself a quote to get me through what I'm feeling "life without rainy days is incomplete"

Know that people care. You are worthy of being loved and listened to...Let your parents know that you need to speak to a counselor, not a GP. I wish you well.

If it’s okay for you I will ask a question. Is there a psychologist or teacher you can trust? Go ask them for advice or help if your family situation is difficult they might be your best option. Now in my case I had this amazing friend who stood by me and gave me the courage to go and ask for help and also this community. At your age it’s probably more difficult to talk about this to a friend since they might not understand how you feel like. Now if you not have anyone in school you can ask, go and see your doctor he also can appoint you to a psychologist. If your parents ask about it tell them the truth even if they might be prejudiced. I hope I could help you in anyway. If you have any other questions just ask I will try to answer them in the best possible way.

    • @decoy2636
      @decoy2636 2 года назад

Well they probably would say youre too sensitive or too emotional. I think thats what I remember any time I tried to express myself. Sad really because they don't care about your feelings. It's hard to love yourself when those you love make you feel like you have no value. I know now they were just coping with their own abuse as children. What we have to attempt is to try not to repeat the cycle of generational abuse. My mom is no longer here and my dad is old now. I tried to break the cycle as best I could, sadly my ex was also a damaged child who passed the emotional part on to our child. I did not pass the physical abuse on to our child. I succeeded in regards to that but our general dysfunctional home prevailed. Niether of us knew our homelife as children was dysfunctional as that was all we knew. I never got angry when correcting my child as my parents had done. I never raised my voice at my child because I didn't let my child get me off my square. Tell the child camly once. If they disobey spank their little butt. I didnt hurt her butt just her feelings. We laugh now if it comes up she cant remember enough spankings to use more than fingers to count all of them. She sure remembers her mother screaming at her when I wasnt home though.
I wish to encourage you about all this. Love yourself even though you may feel lost. Only with self love can you rise above what others do. Most often theyre just hurt children inside themselves.
      Peace and blessings.

I really love your videos. It helps me a lot. It gives me more insight of my Depression and Anxiety ect. And it's true, it's difficult reaching out for help which is my case rn.
I also have some video suggestions. I personally think these are important:
1.) How Depression affects Type 1 Diabetics
2.) How helicopter parents aren't helping your mental health or literally anything helicopter parent related stuff (The reason I put this on is because that I have helicopter parents and the don't understand or they get the wrong idea when I tell them about my problems. I've lost my trust with them... I can't trust with my problems anymore...)
3.) How Depression and Anxiety effects girls/women when on their periods
    ...
I forgot my other suggestions but that's alright. And I'm sorry about my little rant there. Just some thoughts I needed to get out my head...

Being mentally healthy shows itself in responsibility while being mentally ill shows itself in irresponsibility. The pandemic death toll is only icing on the mentally ill "cake".

I experienced many of these symptoms as well, but my reason for ignoring them was different. My father had displayed many of these symptoms throughout his life. So when I started displaying the same behaviours I just chalked it up to me inheriting his personality and temperament. But the fact was that my father suffered from untreated mental illness.
Since my late teens I’ve experienced mood swings, an unstable personality, feeling mentally fractured, uncontrollable fits of temper, feeling disconnected from people to the point of intensely disliking them and avoiding all human contact. It cost me jobs, opportunities and relationships and was the reason for so many bad choices in my life. It also made having a relationship with my father impossible. It is only within the last decade when I got treatment for it that I realized the truth of his situation and mine. Today my life has improved a hundred fold. But I’m left wondering how much different my life and my fathers life would’ve been if both of us had gotten treatment sooner.

  • @drpottymouth
    @drpottymouth 2 года назад +1

Of the massive Cornucopia of Mental Illnesses/Disorders/Disabilities I have, Mood Swings are the WORST!!!!! They can either ruin everything or improve everything. Both directions are sudden and drastic, and it's often confusing to me how suddenly I'm in the mood for something, and how suddenly I'm not. I would have a fun time with my friends, and nothing in particular really happens. My feelings just...flip. I don't know what else to call it. I feel like a whole different person, and I hate it. It can happen over the course of an hour or so, and some can happen within a minute. It's completely Random how I feel about some things, and it drives me to feel any more/less than how I should about something...or someone. Mixed feelings are worse on me mentally than Mood Swings, because I'm overwhelmed with emotions, not commonly leaving room for logic. Mood Swings are worse for me emotionally, because not only is it Random, but it provokes urges to either hurt someone close to me, or even help someone I couldn't care less about if I tried. There are a few physical problems I have that take things further against my Mental Health. I at least have a machine to help with Sleep Apnea, and moved to a better Environment for my Asthma, but my Sinuses are still causing issues, and Moderate Obesity doesn't help anything. That's a product of my Eating Habits. It was rarely over Hunger, because I would often eat so much, I wouldn't need to eat for hours, almost regularly able to skip Meals. I feel like an animal, eating whatever I can, whenever I can, as fast as I can, ready to mutilate anyone who tries to take it from me, not knowing when I'll eat next. I can at least trust my Household not to take it from me...mostly. I especially felt like an animal when my parents had to lock the Fridges and empty the Cupboards, because I would sneak so much Food out whenever I felt deprived. I didn't realize, until my friend explained to me, that I was actually pretty far on the path to eating myself to death. My Obsession with Food today is still troublesome, but it was dangerous back then. I was willing to hurt my friend over a Burger. It wasn't even a Quality Burger. It was one of those cheap ones you typically find in a School Lunch Line. I had a lot to eat already, and that still happened. We laugh about it now, but it still scares me, how little it took for me to hurt him. The whole scene was like a Cartoon. I hear about the last Burger, we get up, and I grab him by the shoulder, pull him back, and push him into the chair behind me. He grabs my ankle, tripping me, and is able to snag the Burger before I could reach it. He eats it right in front of me, and I laughed. It was so stupid, how aggressive I got over Food I wouldn't even consider High-Quality. I wasn't even mad at him. Not only did I already have two of them, and four cups of Beans, but I can't be mad at someone who makes me fall down like a Cartoon Character if we're just horsing around.

Assuma, How are you now? In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. To feel better reduce negative thoughts [overthinking]. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations when taking a walk, before sleep, in school, at work, when reading, etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media, take morning sunlight walks and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

@@assuma0411 Since many years I have made it a habit to observe my breath sensations even during my normal activities and I am feeling relaxed and healthy. Anywhere-anytime it can be done. The best part is nobody comes to know that you are doing the breath observing practice as there is no deep breathing or sound. Reduce watching negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind. Read my msg and do the practice regularly. Best wishes. Sr. Counsellor.

One of the girls I know was acting out so I suggested psychologist to their parents to take consideration. She was cutting her out of conversation that I know she was interested in. She stopped being outside. She stopped caring about her hobbies. She had a terrible father and step mom but a strong step father and helicopter mother. That created so much tention that was not easy to process as an adult, so I can just imagine that it was much harder as a child.
3 years later this girl just cut her wrist. :(
I could do better - that's my inner voice right now. I should had ask psychologist for help how to raise awareness for that environment that girl (12) is living.
But I had my own excuses why not to...
How is it possible to tell someone, who is not family or my friend, that I see the struggle and maybe help is in reach just go and be brave and ask for it?
    How?

After watching this, I thought that I am also going through the same like losing interest in everything, no appetite, no good sleep and always changing my mood which is not me. Due to my working conditions and demanding boss, I started to feel tired and angry. They never care about that since money is everything for my boss. My coworkers are betraying me at the back too. So now I am really losing hope.

This video hits me but if some ppl want confirmation on this, i will explain this.
1 explain: This is been happening since i was young, this has been noted by my parents by only school for the fist time, while i have been this for many times. Now i can't do much until i get 24 hours of sleep.
2 explain: This is from the stupidity from my younger self but some are not right, but anyway, i got this from avoiding drama or issues from family and getting rejected for friends which leads for me to be defensive a lot.(I hate my young self).
3 explain: This is the most effect one and most noticeable, i used to love sports and story telling in different ways (through environments as example), but now the only thing i got left is video games as there i have something that can help me cope for social anxiety, aggressiveness and do suicide.
4 explain: This happened after being detached, this i don't know how this happened so i can't tell much execpt it started when i was at the point of having no interest.
5 explain: This started after the drama which leads to being aggressive to seemingly nothing and my family just do not care about me or my health
6 explain: This is still going on but the start of this leads to problems of me just zoning out for a while, for some i can agree but most i don't know about that, so if i mess up on something i get scared and on the brink of crying then to anger just because of this.
7 explain: I used to be a skinny person but during some drama and trust issues, i do not trust ppl of my stuff, especially food items since my family could just take and destroy them while i am not looking or distracted.
8 explain: This is been happening now and its getting worse (i almost had myself with a car spring, the secert bomb ones, knowing i had enough of reality), barely anything is getting helpful but i am trying to help myself execpt i am gonna fail soon so here.

What I really get annoyed about is people automatically assuming that COVID was my cause of mental issue when covid was my escape from it all. I just can't say why because I was 11 and felt really depressed. I'm afraid people will just shun it as fake or something like that because I was so young. That's what they did when I opened up at first. Why would it change?

I did have 90% of these before I tried to change myself for the better (I did contemplate suicide but at the same point I wondered what that would solve because it would be assuming I am a failure when I have the capacity to change). Now I have probably one or more that flashes in and out. I still routinely check my door to see if it's locked because:
    1. hearing horror stories screwed me up
    2. My mother and brother would bardge in with no respect of my privacy even at midnight.

My problem was in how I was such a deep and heavy sleeper, that I could not get up in the mornings, and when I finally got up, I was groggy and hung over sleepy for another 2 hours or more. I was in constant trouble at school and I lost several jobs for being late. I tried to get help and I went to an MD shrink, who could only tell me to get a loud alarm clock, as if I really wouldn't have already tried something as ridiculously simple as that
