@Rizerbruh better than triple Strategists. Triple Vanguard is some of the most fun I’ve ever had but I like a lot of Venom, Thor, and Angela so maybe I’m biased lol😅 If you hate dealing with Vanguards that much then learn Wolverine, Hawkeye, Iron Fist, or Bucky
its because every melee character has some form of gimmick that allows them to be cc immune etc and if they buff the characters themselves it would be not only insanely op but it would also make players annoyed to play against those and then its a gambit situation all over again.
That's because this is a hero SHOOTER and range will always trump melee unless you are playing a MOBA or something where headshots don't exist and you have variable stats (i.e. items) because otherwise you just gunned down before ever approaching
@yepyep86 you say that like we havent had melee heroes be the most broken or dominant heroes. Magik is always top 3 highest winrates because the players are good even if Magik isnt actually a top 3 hero. DD is gonna 1v1 and win against any range dps. Rogue is insane right now. Venom is melee and is good, especially with a dive comp. Mind you, dive beats poke, poke beats brawl, brawl beat dive. Melee is actually created to kill range, its just that if youre positioning is terrible, yeah youre gonna get killed especially if you just run at the enemy without using cover. To say that the genre is called a hero "shooter" and using that to determine melee should be awful against ranged is honestly just a fallible take made by someone who doesnt understand the genre
@Rizerbruh Every long range hero has some CC gimmick and/or escape tool as well. These are heroes that are supposed to be vunerable if you close the gap and get up close but they give them so much survivability on TOP of being ranged threats.

I agree with this. Strong neutral and mid ults are way more fun imo. I just miss the old Psylocke. Star Lord, Psylocke, and pretty much all the Strategists feel like ult merchants Wouldn’t be opposed to just a global ult charge nerf across the board. Keep the strong ults the way they are, buff the weak ones, nerf Moon Knight’s ult charge, and then slash everyone’s ult charge generation
The ban vote system should be like Overwatch: everyone votes for three heroes at the same time, with no waiting between votes and no duplicate bans. So you can scale it to 4, 5, or 8 bans faster. ~ No role limit
@okyeprandom bans would be awful. Just remove the double from the ban selection for one team, so you only ever get a double ban if both teams only try to ban the same hero
If gaming anthropology was a field the reception and community discourse of Rivals would be worthy of study. It's one of the biggest testaments to how little tolerance and patience modern audiences have towards games regardless of how rapidly they attempt to iterate and update. If you ever falter, you get eaten alive, and everyone will want something different and contradictory YESTERDAY.
100%. I also think the constant discourse from RUclipsrs adds to this as well. If there wasn't a new video on the state of Rivals every day, I don't think people would perceive it to be such an issue.
They need to fix match matching. Games often lack balance, with one side completely dominating. Sometimes, you barely do anything and win easily, while other times, you give it your all and still get crushed. That leave you feeling like the games are rigged.

I dont think when people talk about the meta is old and stale they are refferring to individual characters (ofcourse they are but not as much) more as they are simply referring to the meta of extreme sustain and poke, and how poke characters are designed to counter both brawl and dive

The problem is how many seasons, quick play games especially, devolve into triple support swaps. The game has been this way for months upon months and it feel awful. Every time I get back on its always the same shit of the enemy starts losing and they swap triple support or vice versa. It just is not fun.
Modern audiences are zero tolerance. Back in the day metas often lasted years, if they ever changed. You need constant novelty, and anything disliked must be immediately rectified, even a few months is too long, development schedule be damned. Can NetEase do better? Perhaps. But with the rate of work it's clear they're really trying.
@asnipersfate Triple support is a crutch. It's not even that good, it has a negative win rate. Want to beat triple support? Pick a brawl character, or pick hawkeye/punisher to clear them with your ult. Dive them with magik or iron fist. Take advantage of their lack of damage. Triple support is only good if you don't counter swap.
I really wanna agree that the meta has changed significantly over time, and while to an extent the majority of characters have risen and fallen amongst viability, the “Most Effective Tactic Available” has always been poke. For over a year now Hela, Hawkeye, and later on phoenix have been almost unadjusted despite being easily the most dominant picks at high level, even occasionally receiving buffs. Because of their consistent presence the entire game’s balance has been dictated by how well each character fares into them. And sure they might not have been incredible in season 2, but that’s likely just because they were so overturned prior that after receiving their nerfs people had to actually learn to play the game. This can be pretty easily seen by their presence slowly rising over the coming seasons despite receiving no changes. All I want to see is a meta where these characters lose their stranglehold on the game and characters who have been terrible since release like blade can actually flourish.
The game gets enough content as it is, its nice having these events and all, but they really need to address the balance as thats the main issue with the game, not a lack of content.
Tons of new content but if you're a tank main you're stuck solo tanking Magneto like it's season 0 75% of the time so there might as well be no new content

My crackpot theory is that for infinity war they're going to drop the black order to semi match the overwatch drop. Ebony maw/full obsidian in the first half, proxima midnight and corvus glaive in the second. Then for endgame it'll be captain marvel and then Thanos.
4 Bans per team but bans only for the enemy team, no more banning your teammate’s character and you can ban the characters your team doesn’t want to play against, no more wasted double bans and it doesn’t increase the number of banned characters on each team, and reduces mirror matchups!

More bans is a bandaid solution to the real problem of them not nerfing the strongest heroes and instead buffing the weaker ones. I would really not like to queue up for rank and there are not Frontline tanks to pick or all new heroes in ranked are banned bc people don't want them to be played 😅
The balance is never and I mean NEVER going to be perfect. It may seem that way for small windows but it will never be perfect. Hot Take: New characters should be unplayable in comp for the first week. In anything above High Diamond, you are throwing if you pick new character.

The OW banning system is better in the aspect of time consumption. You have like 15 seconds and you can ban 3 hero's. If rivals does that, removes double bans and doesn't limit bans on a role, then it'll be peak
It’d be hilarious if Thanos comes and there’s an arcade mode where half the roster is randomly unavailable to play for that match and changes every match.
It's not the fact that the meta hasn't changed. It's the fact that characters the need to get nerfed take multiple seasons to get nerfed and the characters that don't need to get buffed just get buffed for no reason. Also characters that get buffed people complain about and then get gutted the next season (Iron fist is an example of this)
Additionally while the meta does change, it feels like it always defaults back to the same few characters. Like sure, we have had seasons where dive is strong, with cap, iron fist, BP, all doing well. Same thing with the flier meta. But we just keep defaulting back to poke meta after those are toned down. Lots of mag, Emma, Bucky phoniex Hela Hawkeye, Luna invis Loki CnD. These characters have always been very strong, and while they might get overshadowed for a season, they almost always pop back up in A tier minimum
I am actually just tired to see the same 10 names being insane every season. All I ask is that they rotate the 10 meta NAMES from time to time. so sick of the same names/character fantasies being hard meta all the time. its not healthy for the game at all.

I have never played competitive mode myself but I do agree with the 4 hero ban method because from the numbers standpoint, with the amount of heroes that exist. Banning 4 heroes will create enough of a shift in team composition for teams to try work around them, yeah you will have some people banning the strong heroes because they be meta but you can see some teams banning counter picks, that way they can play their heroes they know they are really strong in despite the meta and prevent the other team from countering them with said heroes.
Just like how they recently reworked Adam and Storm? They have been doing exactly this the entire time, there’s been so many hero reworks over the game’s first year idk where this narrative of them “neglecting old heroes” is coming from.
I agree with this. Also some of the kits could be a lot cooler like venoms and black widows. Like imagine venom with the insomniac venom moves and no weird carnage tendril attack
@MysticXT-j5gher wind form now gives bonus HP on primaries, her lighting form primaries decrease the cd of her right click, the team damage boost now decays after leaving it, her form shift is quicker, and some other changes. Her meta presence has not changed but she’s significantly smoother to play now, and a rework is still a rework, plus they can eventually give her more buffs still.
Imagine 20 people vs thanos and his army played by a couple players. The 20 is split into 4 groups of 5 sent out to get the Infinity stones before thanos. You could have each team have someone who could weild the Infinity stones like one team has loki so if you acquire the space stone loki can use it, but thanos get more army npcs. Ultimately either team could win, you either stop Thanos or he wipes or half the universe. Would be crazy.
The issue is never been about there being a meta for this or meta for that. It's that it always comes down to the he fact that if you want to win and/or have fun, there are only a handful of characters you can pick. Along with the support power creep.
Maybe not 8 bans, but absolutely double ban protection. Make it so that there's an invisible shared 5th square. If the teams ban the same person, that ban goes into the 5th shared square.
The reason people keep saying meta never changes is that it always defaults back to what people are tired of. Bucky, hela, hawkeye, phoenix, magneto, emma, etc. These characters have remained at the top for so long and the triple support comp while changing who's in it, it's still the same thing. In a sense rivals meta doesn't change it just has stuff added to it. If that makes any sense.
This is actually kinda false though. Triple support isn't **absolutely** dominant even now outside of Loki+Gambit (the only truly broken comp), for one. And while there has always been some kind of triple support comp somewhere in the meta, I mean that's the nature of the game, there are varying comps. The same way you'll even see GOATS in some rounds. 2/2/2 is still the most common across all ranks, and still used at all levels of play. Even in pro or high level play the comps vary more than people seem to give credit to. Phoenix is clearly the best dps currently yeah, but that will obviously change at some point. The main thing is that Gambit is broken, which limits Support comp variety. And Emma, Strange, Mag, and (somewhat) Groot are the only proper frontliners, so that category really needs more variety.
Of those characters you've mentioned, only TWO have been meta every season: Server Admin Bucky, and Father of Five Magneto. Mag doesn't feel very good this season, either. So basically we just need to cut off bucky's arm for a season or two and everything is better. Did I mention I HATE playing against bucky? Triple support is also a paper tiger. Negative win rate every season, bar none.
I just like how efficient overwatchs ban system is. I didnt know you could only ban a certain amount from each role but with that said, rivals could take the foundation and just improve on it by removing those restrictions but keeping the efficiency.
Triple support only becomes a problem if both teams run it. If that happens offense is throwing There’s so much counter play to triple support, and people are ruining their own experiences by mirroring
The game is casual-first, the only way to make it have any competitive integrity is to let high-level players pick and choose what can be played. Flats is actually right on this, more bans is what the game needs, it's casual to the core and bans are a necesity to have a semblance of balance

As someone who’s like grind recently from Platt to GM triple support has been used consistently for people to climb because if you have it, you just instantly increase your odds of winning the game
Just because a few characters have entered the Meta doesn’t mean the meta changed at any fundamental level. The same characters have been at the top of the roster since the release of the game and/or their respective releases
Tbh, I had a strong feeling this would happen eventually even when I played the first season. The support and tank design is very imbalanced in this game on a fundamental level.
I agree with him on meta changing. Played back in s1 where in GM elo u had to depend on ur triple support ultis just spamming them. Now im back in s6 and in s6.5 i have reached GM3 and let me tell you that now it comes down to who has better team synergy really and who can react better. A little thing ive noticed is now people tolerate stuff that in s1 you wouldn't such as Black Widow pick,Wanda pick,Jeff pick etc etc... you can really impact the game if you have the synergy as team.
Yeah I've made it to diamond and it all feels the same. Its just trip support. Dive is never used because there is little to no coordination. Its pretty much been poke every season

Nerf healing done across the board for all healers. It sucks how nobody dies in this game, the over heals from everyone is insane. This is the primary reason triple support is used.. the most annoying Strat in the game. Aside from that PVE modes are going to be fantastic. And especially the road to Doomsday.
Vanguard is much better in Rivals than OW and I main tank in both games. This is cause of the high healing, trust me even if both teams have triple support, dmg still out paces (Both teams going triple is genuinely stupid btw, if you’re going triple of offense you’re throwing)
@TJKang-fx8mt at least tanks in ow are self-sufficient. They have either enough mitigation/mobility/pure sustain to engage and disengage in most situations without being on a support lifeline. In rivals unless you're mag/cap/venom/angela you die the moment healing flow stops. So every match you literally pray for at least one of your supports to be focused on pocket healboting tanks, which is imo not fun for both tanks and supports.
@TJKang-fx8mt I’m Celest and I play all roles. That form of argument is so room temp iq. The over heals prevents skill from being a factor in the game. Winning in Rivals is based on support ULTs too heavy since nobody ever dies. If over healing is fixed then tanks get to make better movement/positioning plays for the dps to kill and supps would be much more smarter/skilled instead of heal bots. I’m not understanding how you don’t understand that. Rivals is filled with heal bots that can’t die, put them in any other video game and their rank is significantly decreased since it would require playing the game and thinking instead of just waiting for ULT.
I know why they made healing strong cos they want longer chaotic fights that being said a flat 20% heal nerf and slower sup ults would be a great change
Comp devolves into triple support almost always. Triple support has been a problem since season 1.5. Because of open queue, it is and always will be a pick when people start “losing”
@B3Ngal_Tiger almost never you mean. Out of my 21 games i had 7 games where at least on team had triple support. Half of those games a lost vs 2 2 2 comp. Gm 1- Celestial 3
@TheBeetleblastRole queue heavily fixes some of the issues, also even though the current season is kinda high on damage as well in OW, the 6v6 experience is often 2-2-2. rivals tends to run triple support way more because of how high damage is and how important healing is in rivals. In Overwatch supports can actually trickle in damage more often. Either way both games have issues but what modern game doesnt tbh
I wish Rivals either upped the ban slots or create a system to ban certain team comps like banning triple support, then at max both teams can choose up to only 2 supports. It'll really make the games feel much better. One going into a game I'll know my enemy team wont swap triple supp when they're losing lol
The shortened seasons combined with abysmal matchmaking is what broke me with Rivals. It was always miserable playing for about the 1st 2wks after a new season starts because of all the rank resets, and smurfs coming out of hibernation. I got to a point where I would just drop the game at season start until things leveled out. But when they shortened the seasons, instead 2wks off only being 1/3rd of it, it became 50%, which puts more pressure on each match you play to get to Gold for the costumes and all the other rewards. I know I'm not the best, I don't want to be the best. I just don't want to be constantly bulldozed, or know a match is lost at the loading screen when seeing the Player Levels of my opponents vs. my own team
I love Marvel Rivals, but they really need to fix that triple support meta. Triple support is never fun. I haven't touched the game since early January.
4-8 bans is massive. Until we get more Vanguards specifically I don't know if I support it. Without limits on bans per roles... it could be weird. Imagine matches with no Strategists/healing, no tanks, etc. Weird stuff can be fun, but I prefer my ranked games more stable.
Flats sat up here and lied about the meta changes.... We had a a half flyer season and Daredevil had a half season. Aside from that it's the same DPS and tanks. Game needs a fresh change next season
So hear me out (and possibly help me too). For each new avengers themed season, 2 new heroes will be released right? Here are some of my predictions regarding those said heroes(or they might not even do an avengers themed heroes for release idk): 1. For avengers (2012) - The first one i think would be Nicholas Fury as he was a vital part for the team to be assembled(pun intended). The second character i could say might be Phil or Hill or some other character in the film but remember that marvel gave the green light for Rivals to create thier own original characters which they might use to create a Chaturi based character. Thats my second pick, a Chaturi based original character, for which i will neither be too fond for nor very disappointed if released. 2. For Avengers : Age of Ultron - It should be pretty sure that we will be getting a new Ultron skin, but for new characters I think its perfect time to release Quicksilver, which i know might be very controversial for some but its my prediction (and i need him desperatly and we have no comparision to flash from DC Allies). The second hero could be Vision. He is too different from ultron and shouldnt exist as a skin for ultron and should be its own character (preferably vangaurd but could also be a stratergist). 3. For Avengers : Infinty War - Like come on its very simple and straightforward that Gamora and Drax should be released at this time as we are missing only these form The Gaurdians of the Galaxy team and will be really cool to seet hem as duelists. Also, every other prominent figure is already in the game other than nebula and thanos. 4. For Avengers : Endgame - I WILL BE PRAYING EVERY SINGLE DAY TO MARVEL RIVAL DEVS TO PLEASE ADD THANOS AS A PLAYABLE CHARACTER WITH SOME DEADPOOL ESSK UPGRADE SYSTEM (shout out to @bryank8043 from the comment section for the idea). I NEED HIM PLEASE RIVALS TEAM PLEASEEEEEEEEEE. That said i have no idea who the second character could be, maybe some one from the black order or Nebula or someone entirely original character idk I JUST NEED THANOS IN THE GAME!!!!!!!! Let me know if i missed someone from the movies that could be a better pick as a playable character and if you agree or disagree with these and we can talk it out here. Marvel Rivals isn’t dead, but it’s definitely changed for arguably the worst since launch. Kinda early to say this, since it’s only been a little over a year, but I feel as if Marvel Rivals gets more and more draining to play as more heroes get added. Plus, realistically, PvE always seemed like a last ditch effort to try and convince players to play in anticipation. The comics were always nice additions, since it was always there for the people who cared about the lore. I know for a fact 70% of the MR community don’t care about it, so as cool as PvE *sounds*, actually doin it seems wrong.
Start with 3 per team, but also put something in place to not have repeated bans if possible. If 11 people pick character one and 1 person picks character two, both get banned
If they added one more character with an anti heal ability without overloading the rest of their kit (gambit), like a Rivals version of Ana, triple support wouldn’t be so bad. A support with an anti heal ability, even if it isn’t splash and it just applies to one hero you could single out an ulting support and triple support would get cooked
Flats I think you are genuinely out of touch with lower elo players, where triple support reigns as the cope out due to teams not knowing how to counter properly, you play with and against people who know most if not all counter swaps, teams will come out in 222 more often then not but if they get rolled in 2 teamfights they insta swap to triple support, and if the the community actually cared to play tank, triple tank would keep it in check.
as someone who recently stopped playing it, was due to issues with toxic players and throwers as the game still does not punish them hard enough and obviously the balance of the game currently
It's crazy really, if you were a developer you'd probably be like "we got five new tanks in year one, I'm sure the community will like that". Response: "Another DPS? Idiot devs." We could always use more tanks, but y'all really be wild. There's no winning lol.
Imo the meta since the beginning has always been triple support. People just weren’t necessarily clued in on it during the earlier seasons. Yes we’ve had what they call Dive/Poke seasons however literally all of them are countered by triple support. This is how it’s always been. The buffs/nerfs Rivals have put out so far in my opinion do not counter the inherent problems with 3 support comps. I feel if they want a meta defining shakeup, rivals is getting to the stage role queue needs to be considered, more bans in comp or mass nerfs because there’s simply too many cracked characters in the game now.
Genuine question Flats, if you see all the complaints and outrage about the state of Competitive mode: balance, leavers, placements, matchmaking, etc Why not use the massive platform you have to get the developers to make positive changes to the core gameplay, instead of continuous new content drops? Most ppl are fine with how much content the game gets, but new content does not matter AT ALL, if the core experience, the reason most of us play the game, is miserable. (Unless of course, you’re a content creator for no other reason than to get clicks off new content)

I think the ban system needs to go to 3 per, but have a system in place so double bans don't happen. So if in rd1 of bans all but 1 person picks gambit but that 1 person picks groot, then groot and gambit both get banned
Acting like they cant focus on two things at once. They also have separate teams working on stuff so people who design skins aren’t the same ones who code or do balance changes.

What I like most about Rivals vs OW is this when you get hard counter in OW just switch or you lose. The way Rivals works is there are counter but it like fighting games. Where in fighting games 8/10 times this character win against them but if you're skill enough you can be the 2/10 match up.

its because every melee character has some form of gimmick that allows them to be cc immune etc and if they buff the characters themselves it would be not only insanely op but it would also make players annoyed to play against those and then its a gambit situation all over again.
That's because this is a hero SHOOTER and range will always trump melee unless you are playing a MOBA or something where headshots don't exist and you have variable stats (i.e. items) because otherwise you just gunned down before ever approaching

Magik is always top 3 highest winrates because the players are good even if Magik isnt actually a top 3 hero. DD is gonna 1v1 and win against any range dps. Rogue is insane right now. Venom is melee and is good, especially with a dive comp. Mind you, dive beats poke, poke beats brawl, brawl beat dive. Melee is actually created to kill range, its just that if youre positioning is terrible, yeah youre gonna get killed especially if you just run at the enemy without using cover.
To say that the genre is called a hero "shooter" and using that to determine melee should be awful against ranged is honestly just a fallible take made by someone who doesnt understand the genre
@Rizerbruh Every long range hero has some CC gimmick and/or escape tool as well. These are heroes that are supposed to be vunerable if you close the gap and get up close but they give them so much survivability on TOP of being ranged threats.

The ban vote system should be like Overwatch: everyone votes for three heroes at the same time, with no waiting between votes and no duplicate bans. So you can scale it to 4, 5, or 8 bans faster.

If gaming anthropology was a field the reception and community discourse of Rivals would be worthy of study. It's one of the biggest testaments to how little tolerance and patience modern audiences have towards games regardless of how rapidly they attempt to iterate and update.

They need to fix match matching. Games often lack balance, with one side completely dominating. Sometimes, you barely do anything and win easily, while other times, you give it your all and still get crushed. That leave you feeling like the games are rigged.

I dont think when people talk about the meta is old and stale they are refferring to individual characters (ofcourse they are but not as much) more as they are simply referring to the meta of extreme sustain and poke, and how poke characters are designed to counter both brawl and dive

Thank you for pointing out that the meta has changed pretty regularly. People have the shortest memory, like storm/wolv used to be perma-banned and now it would be crazy lol.
The problem is how many seasons, quick play games especially, devolve into triple support swaps. The game has been this way for months upon months and it feel awful. Every time I get back on its always the same shit of the enemy starts losing and they swap triple support or vice versa. It just is not fun.
Most of these meta changes lasted half a season at best 80% of the game has still been a poke meta.
Modern audiences are zero tolerance. Back in the day metas often lasted years, if they ever changed.
You need constant novelty, and anything disliked must be immediately rectified, even a few months is too long, development schedule be damned.
Can NetEase do better? Perhaps. But with the rate of work it's clear they're really trying.

@asnipersfate Triple support is a crutch. It's not even that good, it has a negative win rate. Want to beat triple support? Pick a brawl character, or pick hawkeye/punisher to clear them with your ult. Dive them with magik or iron fist. Take advantage of their lack of damage. Triple support is only good if you don't counter swap.
I really wanna agree that the meta has changed significantly over time, and while to an extent the majority of characters have risen and fallen amongst viability, the “Most Effective Tactic Available” has always been poke. For over a year now Hela, Hawkeye, and later on phoenix have been almost unadjusted despite being easily the most dominant picks at high level, even occasionally receiving buffs. Because of their consistent presence the entire game’s balance has been dictated by how well each character fares into them. And sure they might not have been incredible in season 2, but that’s likely just because they were so overturned prior that after receiving their nerfs people had to actually learn to play the game. This can be pretty easily seen by their presence slowly rising over the coming seasons despite receiving no changes. All I want to see is a meta where these characters lose their stranglehold on the game and characters who have been terrible since release like blade can actually flourish.

The OW banning system is better in the aspect of time consumption. You have like 15 seconds and you can ban 3 hero's. If rivals does that, removes double bans and doesn't limit bans on a role, then it'll be peak

It's not the fact that the meta hasn't changed. It's the fact that characters the need to get nerfed take multiple seasons to get nerfed and the characters that don't need to get buffed just get buffed for no reason. Also characters that get buffed people complain about and then get gutted the next season (Iron fist is an example of this)
Additionally while the meta does change, it feels like it always defaults back to the same few characters. Like sure, we have had seasons where dive is strong, with cap, iron fist, BP, all doing well. Same thing with the flier meta. But we just keep defaulting back to poke meta after those are toned down. Lots of mag, Emma, Bucky phoniex Hela Hawkeye, Luna invis Loki CnD. These characters have always been very strong, and while they might get overshadowed for a season, they almost always pop back up in A tier minimum
I am actually just tired to see the same 10 names being insane every season. All I ask is that they rotate the 10 meta NAMES from time to time. so sick of the same names/character fantasies being hard meta all the time. its not healthy for the game at all.

I have never played competitive mode myself but I do agree with the 4 hero ban method because from the numbers standpoint, with the amount of heroes that exist. Banning 4 heroes will create enough of a shift in team composition for teams to try work around them, yeah you will have some people banning the strong heroes because they be meta but you can see some teams banning counter picks, that way they can play their heroes they know they are really strong in despite the meta and prevent the other team from countering them with said heroes.
They have to slow it back and work on older heroes who have barely gotten any changes still

@MysticXT-j5gher wind form now gives bonus HP on primaries, her lighting form primaries decrease the cd of her right click, the team damage boost now decays after leaving it, her form shift is quicker, and some other changes.
Her meta presence has not changed but she’s significantly smoother to play now, and a rework is still a rework, plus they can eventually give her more buffs still.
Imagine 20 people vs thanos and his army played by a couple players. The 20 is split into 4 groups of 5 sent out to get the Infinity stones before thanos. You could have each team have someone who could weild the Infinity stones like one team has loki so if you acquire the space stone loki can use it, but thanos get more army npcs. Ultimately either team could win, you either stop Thanos or he wipes or half the universe. Would be crazy.
The issue is never been about there being a meta for this or meta for that. It's that it always comes down to the he fact that if you want to win and/or have fun, there are only a handful of characters you can pick. Along with the support power creep.
Maybe not 8 bans, but absolutely double ban protection. Make it so that there's an invisible shared 5th square. If the teams ban the same person, that ban goes into the 5th shared square.
The reason people keep saying meta never changes is that it always defaults back to what people are tired of. Bucky, hela, hawkeye, phoenix, magneto, emma, etc. These characters have remained at the top for so long and the triple support comp while changing who's in it, it's still the same thing. In a sense rivals meta doesn't change it just has stuff added to it. If that makes any sense.
This is actually kinda false though. Triple support isn't **absolutely** dominant even now outside of Loki+Gambit (the only truly broken comp), for one.
And while there has always been some kind of triple support comp somewhere in the meta, I mean that's the nature of the game, there are varying comps. The same way you'll even see GOATS in some rounds. 2/2/2 is still the most common across all ranks, and still used at all levels of play.
Even in pro or high level play the comps vary more than people seem to give credit to. Phoenix is clearly the best dps currently yeah, but that will obviously change at some point.
The main thing is that Gambit is broken, which limits Support comp variety. And Emma, Strange, Mag, and (somewhat) Groot are the only proper frontliners, so that category really needs more variety.
Of those characters you've mentioned, only TWO have been meta every season: Server Admin Bucky, and Father of Five Magneto. Mag doesn't feel very good this season, either. So basically we just need to cut off bucky's arm for a season or two and everything is better. Did I mention I HATE playing against bucky? Triple support is also a paper tiger. Negative win rate every season, bar none.

I just like how efficient overwatchs ban system is. I didnt know you could only ban a certain amount from each role but with that said, rivals could take the foundation and just improve on it by removing those restrictions but keeping the efficiency.

Tbh, I had a strong feeling this would happen eventually even when I played the first season. The support and tank design is very imbalanced in this game on a fundamental level.
I agree with him on meta changing. Played back in s1 where in GM elo u had to depend on ur triple support ultis just spamming them. Now im back in s6 and in s6.5 i have reached GM3 and let me tell you that now it comes down to who has better team synergy really and who can react better. A little thing ive noticed is now people tolerate stuff that in s1 you wouldn't such as Black Widow pick,Wanda pick,Jeff pick etc etc... you can really impact the game if you have the synergy as team.

Nerf healing done across the board for all healers. It sucks how nobody dies in this game, the over heals from everyone is insane. This is the primary reason triple support is used.. the most annoying Strat in the game. Aside from that PVE modes are going to be fantastic. And especially the road to Doomsday.

Vanguard is much better in Rivals than OW and I main tank in both games. This is cause of the high healing, trust me even if both teams have triple support, dmg still out paces

@TJKang-fx8mt at least tanks in ow are self-sufficient. They have either enough mitigation/mobility/pure sustain to engage and disengage in most situations without being on a support lifeline. In rivals unless you're mag/cap/venom/angela you die the moment healing flow stops. So every match you literally pray for at least one of your supports to be focused on pocket healboting tanks, which is imo not fun for both tanks and supports.
@TJKang-fx8mt I’m Celest and I play all roles. That form of argument is so room temp iq. The over heals prevents skill from being a factor in the game. Winning in Rivals is based on support ULTs too heavy since nobody ever dies. If over healing is fixed then tanks get to make better movement/positioning plays for the dps to kill and supps would be much more smarter/skilled instead of heal bots. I’m not understanding how you don’t understand that. Rivals is filled with heal bots that can’t die, put them in any other video game and their rank is significantly decreased since it would require playing the game and thinking instead of just waiting for ULT.

@TheBeetleblastRole queue heavily fixes some of the issues, also even though the current season is kinda high on damage as well in OW, the 6v6 experience is often 2-2-2. rivals tends to run triple support way more because of how high damage is and how important healing is in rivals. In Overwatch supports can actually trickle in damage more often. Either way both games have issues but what modern game doesnt tbh

Honestly just been enjoying overwatch a lot more than rivals lately. Kind of just waiting for this season to wrap up. Felt like it’s gone on forever
The shortened seasons combined with abysmal matchmaking is what broke me with Rivals. It was always miserable playing for about the 1st 2wks after a new season starts because of all the rank resets, and smurfs coming out of hibernation. I got to a point where I would just drop the game at season start until things leveled out. But when they shortened the seasons, instead 2wks off only being 1/3rd of it, it became 50%, which puts more pressure on each match you play to get to Gold for the costumes and all the other rewards.
I know I'm not the best, I don't want to be the best. I just don't want to be constantly bulldozed, or know a match is lost at the loading screen when seeing the Player Levels of my opponents vs. my own team

4-8 bans is massive. Until we get more Vanguards specifically I don't know if I support it. Without limits on bans per roles... it could be weird. Imagine matches with no Strategists/healing, no tanks, etc. Weird stuff can be fun, but I prefer my ranked games more stable.
Imagine people being more excited about the pve content than the main part of your game

Flats sat up here and lied about the meta changes.... We had a a half flyer season and Daredevil had a half season. Aside from that it's the same DPS and tanks. Game needs a fresh change next season

Finally someone with a brain, it makes sense for him to dickride the company moneywise.
So hear me out (and possibly help me too). For each new avengers themed season, 2 new heroes will be released right? Here are some of my predictions regarding those said heroes(or they might not even do an avengers themed heroes for release idk):
1. For avengers (2012) - The first one i think would be Nicholas Fury as he was a vital part for the team to be assembled(pun intended). The second character i could say might be Phil or Hill or some other character in the film but remember that marvel gave the green light for Rivals to create thier own original characters which they might use to create a Chaturi based character. Thats my second pick, a Chaturi based original character, for which i will neither be too fond for nor very disappointed if released.
2. For Avengers : Age of Ultron - It should be pretty sure that we will be getting a new Ultron skin, but for new characters I think its perfect time to release Quicksilver, which i know might be very controversial for some but its my prediction (and i need him desperatly and we have no comparision to flash from DC Allies). The second hero could be Vision. He is too different from ultron and shouldnt exist as a skin for ultron and should be its own character (preferably vangaurd but could also be a stratergist).
3. For Avengers : Infinty War - Like come on its very simple and straightforward that Gamora and Drax should be released at this time as we are missing only these form The Gaurdians of the Galaxy team and will be really cool to seet hem as duelists. Also, every other prominent figure is already in the game other than nebula and thanos.
4. For Avengers : Endgame - I WILL BE PRAYING EVERY SINGLE DAY TO MARVEL RIVAL DEVS TO PLEASE ADD THANOS AS A PLAYABLE CHARACTER WITH SOME DEADPOOL ESSK UPGRADE SYSTEM (shout out to @bryank8043 from the comment section for the idea). I NEED HIM PLEASE RIVALS TEAM PLEASEEEEEEEEEE. That said i have no idea who the second character could be, maybe some one from the black order or Nebula or someone entirely original character idk I JUST NEED THANOS IN THE GAME!!!!!!!!
Let me know if i missed someone from the movies that could be a better pick as a playable character and if you agree or disagree with these and we can talk it out here. GGs, fuck toxicity and enjoy the game.

Marvel Rivals isn’t dead, but it’s definitely changed for arguably the worst since launch. Kinda early to say this, since it’s only been a little over a year, but I feel as if Marvel Rivals gets more and more draining to play as more heroes get added. Plus, realistically, PvE always seemed like a last ditch effort to try and convince players to play in anticipation. The comics were always nice additions, since it was always there for the people who cared about the lore. I know for a fact 70% of the MR community don’t care about it, so as cool as PvE *sounds*, actually doin it seems wrong.

Start with 3 per team, but also put something in place to not have repeated bans if possible. If 11 people pick character one and 1 person picks character two, both get banned

If they added one more character with an anti heal ability without overloading the rest of their kit (gambit), like a Rivals version of Ana, triple support wouldn’t be so bad. A support with an anti heal ability, even if it isn’t splash and it just applies to one hero you could single out an ulting support and triple support would get cooked
Flats I think you are genuinely out of touch with lower elo players, where triple support reigns as the cope out due to teams not knowing how to counter properly, you play with and against people who know most if not all counter swaps, teams will come out in 222 more often then not but if they get rolled in 2 teamfights they insta swap to triple support, and if the the community actually cared to play tank, triple tank would keep it in check.
as someone who recently stopped playing it, was due to issues with toxic players and throwers as the game still does not punish them hard enough and obviously the balance of the game currently

It's because games were released. On my radar: RE9 and WoW expansion. Wouldn't be surprised if people played rivals until the WoW expansion released.
Been I die hard marvel rivals fan and unfortunately I just played ow and I’m sad to say it’s more fun heals are just so overturned in rivals
Imo the meta since the beginning has always been triple support. People just weren’t necessarily clued in on it during the earlier seasons. Yes we’ve had what they call Dive/Poke seasons however literally all of them are countered by triple support. This is how it’s always been. The buffs/nerfs Rivals have put out so far in my opinion do not counter the inherent problems with 3 support comps.
I feel if they want a meta defining shakeup, rivals is getting to the stage role queue needs to be considered, more bans in comp or mass nerfs because there’s simply too many cracked characters in the game now.
Genuine question Flats, if you see all the complaints and outrage about the state of Competitive mode: balance, leavers, placements, matchmaking, etc
Why not use the massive platform you have to get the developers to make positive changes to the core gameplay, instead of continuous new content drops?
Most ppl are fine with how much content the game gets, but new content does not matter AT ALL, if the core experience, the reason most of us play the game, is miserable.
(Unless of course, you’re a content creator for no other reason than to get clicks off new content)

I think the ban system needs to go to 3 per, but have a system in place so double bans don't happen. So if in rd1 of bans all but 1 person picks gambit but that 1 person picks groot, then groot and gambit both get banned
i just worry this proves they arent as focused on good balancing and matchmaking and more on cosmetics and modes

Acting like they cant focus on two things at once. They also have separate teams working on stuff so people who design skins aren’t the same ones who code or do balance changes.

What I like most about Rivals vs OW is this when you get hard counter in OW just switch or you lose. The way Rivals works is there are counter but it like fighting games. Where in fighting games 8/10 times this character win against them but if you're skill enough you can be the 2/10 match up.

Lets face it. The worst part about the game is the players. No one wants to swap. Everyone thinks theyre the main player and if you get humbled you swap to support
Players are only as bad the game allows them to be.
Especially low elo. I don't have the time to climb when my teammates are shooting themselves in the foot.
