It's good to hear some praise for Rob. Ever since I got into Sylosis he has been a massive inspiration for me as a drummer, love his drumming. Hopefully he's doing okay!
I agree. And I almost always imagine what every song he didn’t play on would be like if he had, lol. No disrespect to Ali but if I’m ever going to see BFW and Sylosis in the same night Rob has to come back. You’d have to carry me out and I’d probably never be able to mosh again, lol. It would be worth it 🤘🏼
I'm exactly the same, Robs playing has inspired me to no end. Was extremely lucky to have met him before he left. A tragically underrated drummer, IMO.
@@darylpaynedrums8683 I know this is the internet and all but, I 100% agree with your opinion, lol. Also badass you got to meet him. I'm in Michigan...the one time they ever played here was over a decade ago and I didn't know until after. I would kill to see them live. Hands down, my favorite band.
My absolute FAVORITE thing any metal band/drummer does, Sylosis does to perfection, and that's bringing the really heavy riff back with ripping 16/32nd note doubles with a half time snare accent. It's the best of both worlds, I get blindingly fast kicks and a groovy as fuck accent and it makes me stank face every single time. Perfect example of this is in Blackest Skyline.
I doubt you will remember this Josh, but you were meant to play a gig at a venue called Riverside in Newcastle but it was cancelled as the PA blew up before hand. But you guys hung around and chatted to fans and signed merch for everyone. I remember telling you this song was my absolute favourite from the record and that I'd love to see a lesson on how to play it and you jokingly said "it's just one note" haha. Hearing it again brought all those memories back of discovering you for the first time. I love the direction you're going now, but I'd love to hear some of the atmosphere, particularly like this song, brought back
Dude, first of all. Stoked to see praise for Edge of the Earth. Its a masterpiece and I personally love it. Second of all, please convince ESP to release this guitar. I NEED IT
At 1:25 you can see Josh take a deep breath of relief for the short break of fast picking. I would probably say I and anyone else who has played along on guitar to this song think the same thing when we get to this part.
I’m sure it’s down to string tension and my influences; but there’s something about E std that my ears don’t get from other tunings. Those melodic breakdowns are also gorgeous.
Ironically this is why a lot of bands try to tune elsewhere! If you're playing metal, you are likely going to be pedalling the lowest string and hovering around the same keys, so if you're in E it inevitably it will sound like it's bouncing off a lot of the iconic music of the genre from the Big 4 etc.
It's mad that you say the guitar tone is not great , I personally enjoy it rather then the more polished bands tones that take away the raw feel of the songs
Sylosis - when in "Thrash-mode" - really are the greatest new Thrash band of the 21st century, songs like this made me fall in love with the band!
The fact that this sounds so heavy in E standard tuning is still insane to me.

That story is the nicest thing to hear, Josh is my role model as a guitarist

Can never get enough of the old footage and studio stuff

Really digging seeing these Josh!!
Taking a lot of tips from this and it's so cool seeing some of the process for these tracks that we all love!!
Probably up there for me in the top 5 metal albums ever. Absolutely incredible, like you dialled into my head and made exactly what I wanted to hear.
Jesus the amount of work you put into demo's is unreal. Usually you hear a demo and it sounds bare bones, whereas this one is absolutely stacked!
Sounds good, and phenomenal playing as usual! Really cool to see you revisiting some of these older tracks!

08:39 anyone else rethinking their lives when this moment comes up? It hits me right in the kokoro everytime ❤
What Kontakt drum library are you using in this project ? Could you show us your drums mix chain please ? Thanks for your content !
I've checked the speed if it was stuck at 1.5X...what a precision at that speed Josh !!!
2:13 THAT RIFF... SOOOO SICKKKKKKK !!!!!
Thank you for showing us your demos ❤
2:10 pinky magically disappears 👀
C'mon, every professional production can include such minor mess-ups. We only judge when the dude can't play such stuff live, and he pretty sure can
Two tracks recorded separately.
Love it! Really dig that LTD!
Awesome, love that guitar 🎸
Josh...this is SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much GREAT advise here. Thx Josh.
This is awesome man!
I love these, behind the curtain, deep dives into the mixes of some of the greatest songs on the planet. \,,/ oo \,,/

My picking hand/arm cries from watching only ;O
