Master Kong Ney is a true legend of an artist for Cambodia. He’s an expert in the two string guitar like instrument (call Japey in Khmer). He caught polio at the age of 10 which caused his blindness and weak legs. He survived the Cambodian genocide which lasted from 1975-79. He managed to escape execution while all artists in Cambodia were cruelly executed just because they’re artists. And the names Vannda mentioned like “Sin Sisamuth” “Ros Sareysothea”, etc were all legendary artists in the 60s and 70s who were murdered or executed under the Khmer Rouge (the communist Khmer) sometime between 1975-79. No one really knows the truth of how they died but they still live in our hearts. They were great singers, and even given the title the “golden voice” by the former King of Cambodia. All of Vannda songs are a hit and yes he can sing and rap. But one song that also touched many Cambodian is call “Khmer Blood”. He talked about the Khmer resilience. Khmer were the people of Cambodia (or native or majority of us), and the language of Cambodia is call Khmer. Khmer ourselves call Cambodia “Srok Khmer” which means Khmer country. Just some facts 😁
