      Diego Pisfil ..Hmmmm..Broadcast News, it’s quite a good one,but The Last Emperor, as long as it is, it’s an Epic movie,,and the American academy loves to recognize those kind of films ,they just can’t help it ,besides that year Bertoluccis film won almost everything, critics and industry pundits were allying around it ,that it was almost impossible for any competitors to overcome what eventually happened later thru the awards season.

    • @sdkelmaruecan2907
      @sdkelmaruecan2907 6 лет назад

      Nah..."On Golden Pond" was great but it came after a streak of two family dramas winning Best Picture ("Kramer" and "Ordinary People") so it didn't bring anything fresh or impacting like "Chariots of Fire" did... "Reds" was epic but ask yourself which one was more memorable on the long term? "Chariots" or "Reds", give me an iconic moment from both, which one is the most memorable? "Raiders" was the closest contender but I'm glad "Chariots" won ... (I agree with the others by the way)

    • @scifinerd17
      @scifinerd17 6 лет назад +1

      Sdk ElMaruecan Reds was a brilliant film that surely deserved to win, neither Chariots of Fire or Reds are as talked about much today as they were at the time of their release but none of that matters, what matters is how good the film is on its own.

    • @timgriffin3368
      @timgriffin3368 3 года назад

      Reds was by far better but it was against the little engine that could, Chariots. Different movies but David vs Goliath syndrome all of the time. Ordinary People vs Raging Bull, Fargo vs The English Patient, The Hurt Locker vs Avatar. Sometimes my fave wins, The Last Emperor. Sometimes it does not. Its a crap shoot. Its a rarity that something or someone wins because of the art of it All and not just plain ole Marketing and/or Campaigning.

    I saw the original cut of the film (2 hrs 42 mins) on video back then and didn't really think it was all that great. Then, in 2003, I saw the full-length 3-hour-48-minute director's cut and I was like HOLY SHIT. 😳 THAT cut of the film is one of the greatest films ever made. It tells the story in a much more linear, easy-to-follow fashion. Certain parts of history that were only hinted at or referenced are explored completely, and the result is an extremely cohesive, nearly 4-hour film that not only never gets boring, but remains riveting throughout and seems to go a lot faster than it's running time would govern. THAT version of the film is an absolute masterpiece and I couldn't recommend it more.
