The original theme pre dates the more famous and current Match of the day theme, one can’t help feeling that the BBC ‘borrowed slightly’ from this when composing it.
As five year old in 1970 I was Football Mad, I never missed Kick Off (or just Football as it was first named) what I liked about it was the coverage of all our teams /divisions in the North West ... two goals that stick out was Dennis Law scoring for City against United and Bolton's Frank Worthington's overhead clip and volley against Ipswich Town ... many more to mention but I will leave them to you all to add to!.
I am 100% sure that these titles are from, roughly, February. The Derby v Liverpool match was a FA Cup game, covered by Granada, and played in January of '76. Perhaps Granada changed titles from time to time.
1982-83 i think they incorporated the Yorkshire tv clubs as well as YTV scrapped their weekly show as the area didn’t have a top flight club for that season
Typical of dour, Northern Granada "Arthur, what shall we call our new, live football programme? The one where we show the big matches, between some of the biggest First Division clubs? The big match of the day...?" "Football" "Right you are"
É comovente como os ingleses amam o esporte que inventaram, pena não ter títulos a altura da grandeza do país.meu clube tem como nome homenagem a equipe de mesmo nome na Inglaterra, corinthian team , entao tenho carinho por este país (Inglaterra)
There was a dispute on Granada TV's end and they took the chance to re-vamp their titles when the strike ended. Fun fact - that tune was done by one Elgar Howarth, a conductor and, in a twist of turns, trumpet player on Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour"!
@@YeOldeFootballChannel I bloody loved that tune! Brass band....I was telling people in my work about it...that we had that type of music for I thought one season and no one believed me but thankfully this wonderful compilation proves I wasnt going mad...the tune previous to that one which was also the Kick Off theme is my favourite but what a turn up to find the trumpet theme and he worked with the Beatles as well my word! Wonderful old memories thank you!!!!

The Kick Off Match titles from 1975-80 were the same as the Friday night preview programme
Used to love that preview programme at 7pm on a Friday - unmissable!
@@paulwilliams8389 Absolutely!
what great memories.Loved the first tune from the late 60's /early 70's
Olde Channel,
Thanks for reviving many memories with this compilation-many fine goals by great players, not least by Bobby Charlton RIP.
There was a special FA Cup version of the 1982-83 Match Time titles that was used on FA Cup weekends
Gerald Sinstadt , Ian St John ,Elton Welsby , Martin Tyler
A favourite theme tune of mine was Granada Soccer Night in the early 90s. Shall we take a trip? by Northside.

The theme music seemed to advance about 25 years between 1974 and 1975 😄
So true and so great..never watched this as we had the big match in London...shame...the late 70s version sounds very Tony Banks Genesis style

That mid 70s music was ACE!!!!
Instrumental version of Looking High by The Smoke, fine bit of glam rock.
Loved that Theme which was popular with The Big Match. Can anyone explain how both The Big Match and Match Time worked in every region.
Christ.
Thank goodness Jeff Wayne came to the rescue.
Whats with the rainbow ball on the Titles 1977 , was it a chilling Vision of the Future ?
The Kick Off Match titles with Derby v Liverpool captioned it as used in January to March 1976 What was used between August-December 1975

Sunday afternoon. Sit down to watch after a roast beef dinner. Bliss.
Can see why they ditched the horrific match night music after 2 months of 80-81!
There was a dispute on Granada TV's end and they took the chance to re-vamp their titles when the strike ended.

I love the fact that they didn't really change the visuals, but the music still matched!
