  • Oh boy, it has been an exciting few days at the house!!! My amazing Dad has been working to tear down my sheds and you can watch the excavator take them down!! My sheds are now totally demolished!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! Follow along on my channel if you want to see DIY projects, renovating a house on a budget, and I am sure a lot of craziness along the way! I'm just a girl with a drill and a dream.

There are a lot of comments asking why the old wood wasn't saved. This is clearly a family with great respect for timber and wood. Abbys Dad is a logger and runs a sawmill. I'm sure they gave considerable thought to what was practical to save.I trust that with their first hand evaluation of the material they made the right decision.

Yes, a lot of that old wood had long black streaks running through it where water had been leaking for years. I noticed some of the beams had a few feet of maybe decent wood in the center but crumbling on the ends. Ash makes good yard soil.

Yes, Abby's friend that harvested the wood, I Salute him. He deserves to to recognized as a good guy. I reclaim lumber in Alaska as well as make new. (Log) Reclaiming wood can be hard dangerous work.. lots of work goes in for what you yield sometimes..Also timing is very critical, I would have worked with Jim and Abby and harvested alot of that wood but New York is a long way from Alaska, ah ha.😄, it was hard to watch in a way, but I understand and folks have to realize that Abby has her hands full with just saving the house, now she can focus on the house and the problems the other buildings presented is now gone. You have to keep moving and progressing, the reclaimer has to come in and be invisible to Jim and help not hinder. This is what I do , or one hat I wear, as a 1st growth lumber reclaimer, it is hard work and a unique skill and passion. Keep going Abby, if you feel torn in 2 directions, that's good because you have heart, but keep going honey. ..
It might not be the right way but its "Your Way" your the Owner and you are paying the bills, Keep Rock'n and Roll'n.

I was a can do woman in my thirties lifting sinks, toilets, doors and landscaping. I wasn't as careful as I should have been. Dont be afraid to ask for help with the heavy stuff.

I absolutely love that limestone. I pick up rocks everywhere I go and have them placed all over my yard. I would love to have a stone house. My Aunt and Uncle had a beautiful house in Missouri when I was a kid, I will never forget. Seems like you could find a way to move those stones a little easier. Work smarter, not harder. A little engineering is in order.
