Thanks for this! My son has chosen the flute (YEA!) as his middle school instrument and while I've played for some time, I couldn't explain the embouchure. This will ease his frustration. I'm also going to use these exercises to improve my playing.

Excellent video with a really great explanation about flute embouchure. My embouchure is in its embryonic form and the middle octaves are refusing to reveal themselves however I will persevere! Thanks for posting.

Thats what i needed and when i lessoned, the flute started to vibrate with a deep dark rich density. I was in Awe of the sounds. Thought the flute was trashed as i was going to buy another.
My guess is she lives in Germany as germans end a sentebce with, "Yeah".

My fingers have become stiff and inflexible. It is same with my tone as well. I would love continue to practice. What would you advise me in my daily practice. Thanks for your time

Do you play with very loose fingers. You need to have a light touch with no tension in your hands or arms. To help your hands to loosen you should play easy scale exercises maybe 15 minutes at a time but a couple times a day. Don't over do it. Hope that helps.

I suggest emphasizing a "relaxed" embouchure that 'may' resemble a frown (and feels like a cushion). We should license other individuals with flexibility to find their own sweet spot and the ability to change colors if perfected. Correctness changes over time, matches one's unique physiology, and corresponds to one's own sense/concept of sound. Frowning is a good theoretical message (and embouchure is a very important topic) that was likely proliferated by James Galway and his -- would you say European? -- orbit. One more thing, we ought to practice setting the embouchure in rooms with less reverb; otherwise, personal comparisons could get obscured and the benefits of a frown might get lost. ☹ "Poof!"

does anyone else think its funny that she thinks flute needs more of a distinct embouchure per note than french horn and trumpet and basically all brass, french horn is the hardest instrument to play in the entire orchestra BECAUSE of the embouchure, i know beccause i play instruments in every family including violin (what uneducated people think is the hardest instrument to play) and french horn, its really funny how she thinks flute embouchure is more complicated or in any way comparable to french horn and trumpet and brass in difficulty, this is honestly crazy and its clear that she knows absolutely nothing about any other instruments, idk if im the only one that noticed this, and i do not mean to troll and im sorry if i come off like that but this is honestly insane, ive been playing flute for literally two days and i already have the g major and minor and major and minor pentatonic scales down and the ab major and minor and major and minor pentatonic scales down, i play 36 instruments and honestly flute is the easiest instrument ive ever picked up, i could get a pretty good sound out of it at the store where i got mine within two minutes of picking it up and im already composing and soloing on it it in those keys, idk how anyone could think flute is hard, im watching this video because i need to improve my embouchure not to see an uneducated person talk about how flute is a hard instrument to play with no self-awareness whatsoever

Addilynne DH, not everyone is blessed with the good fortune you had getting a good sound so quickly. I have played saxophone and clarinet professionally for decades, and I also had played the flute for years, took lessons, practiced long tones, etudes, etc, and yet I never could get a good consistent sound without notes cracking or sounding really airy. I know it may seem strange to you, but flute -- particularly when it comes to getting a great sound -- really isn't as easy for a lot of people as it apparently was for you. Part of my issue is I have a slight teardrop lip, so after giving up on the flute years ago I am trying again, which is part of why I watched this video (she doesn't address teardrop syndrome, but this does seem to be a good basic exercise for finding the sweet spot of where the tone resonates the best). I found this video helpful, and I suppose if the first time I picked up the flute it was as dirt simple for me to get a sound as you seem to be saying it was for you I might also wonder how it's possible for others to have difficulty with it, but trust me, it just isn't that way for everyone.

@Leslie I do apologize if offence was taken, my comment was tongue in cheek about how our faces change when forming our mouth and face to play the flute.
I think the young lady is attractive to be honest - hope that does not offend 🤭
