The message comes through clearly that initially there were two Gods and that Jesus, who was the second God and Firstborn of God, also created by God, relinquished His Godly status when He became human on this earth, which means that only one God remained in the heavens.
The fact that God addressed Jesus as God indicates to us that originally more than one God existed. This fact is further strengthened with the text that the Word was God and the Word was with God, which definitely indicates two Godly beings.
We also saw here that Jesus Christ, in His Godly status, created everything before He came to this world.
The Word has given up His Deity to become man. He came to live amongst mankind who witnessed His holiness as the only begotten of the Father which came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jesus’ sacrifice was great, as all His glory and powers were stripped from Him. He became human in total and had no more Godly powers. Jesus did this unselfish act out of love for God and mankind. He also showed His willingness, to listen and to do what His Father instructed Him to do. There was no unwillingness or reluctance from Jesus. He did exactly that which God expected Him to do as He knew that He can trust His Father with such a request and that His Father would never abandon Him. Because Jesus relinquished His Holiness and Deity and came to earth, it means only one thing and that is that thereafter, only One God remained in the universe.
Jesus then died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected by God. He was then taken up to heaven where He is now sitting at the right hand side of God as our Mediator, and as man. It also indicates clearly that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and mankind.

God addressed Jesus as God and said Himself that Jesus created the earth and the heavens and that it is the work of His hands.
Heb 1:8-10 - ”But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands.”
God addressed His Son as God and anointed Him with oil of gladness because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. Here we also get indication from God that His Son, in the beginning, before anything else existed, laid the foundation of the earth and that the heavens are the work of His hands. With this information can we definitely accept that Jesus was initially a co-God, that had all the attributes of God ie. invisibility due to His spiritual image and that He created the heavens and the earth which was part of His powers and might that He received from God, and that He knew God personally and that He saw Him. As He had the form of a Spirit and because He was a God could He also be viewed as a Holy Spirit, just as God. Please also note that apart from the fact that God addressed His Son as God, He also mentioned ‘Thy throne’, indicating a separate throne belonging to His Son for ever and ever. This also affirms the fact there were two Godly entities, each one having Their own throne.
Paul referred to Jesus as being the first begotten into the world which means that Jesus was born or created before He came into this world.
Heb 1:3-6 - “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let all the angels of God worship him.”
Paul wrote to the Hebrews and indicated that Jesus as the Son of God, is sitting at the right hand side of God after He came to cleans man from their sin, and that the angels are to worship Him.
As many people had already been born and buried before Jesus came to this world, He could not have been the firstborn on this world with His first coming, which leaves us with no choice but to accept the fact that He was the firstborn of every creature, before anything else existed, as quoted in the previous text. The text also mentions that the first begotten was brought into the world which indicates that He already existed before He came to the world. The fact that God referred to Jesus as His Son and first begotten and also said that He will be a Father to Jesus, creates the picture of a newly born baby, which definitely indicates that He was created by God the Father.

Paul indicates here that Jesus is the firstborn of every creature.
Col 1:15 - “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.” The Nestle-Aland Greek-English translation quotes “the firstborn of all creation.” which is the more correct translation.
Three statements are made here, the first being that Jesus was the firstborn of every creature/all creation, which means that He was the first to see light like a new born baby, which also indicates that He was created by God, His Father. He was thus the first creation of God, before anything else was created such as the angels and cosmos, which included earth, animals and mankind.
The second statement here affirms the fact that God is invisible, a Holy Spiritual being. As Jesus was created by God in His image, it would just be logical to accept that initially Jesus would also have been created as a Holy Spirit, a God, and also being invisible.
The third statement that Paul made here was of the Jesus that he knew in person. It says here explicitly that Jesus is the Image of God which means that He was created by God as God wanted Him to be on earth, and not specifically like God self, as He is a Holy Spirit and has no shape or form as man. We believe that Paul referred to Jesus’ perfection of image related to His performance, message and actions and not specifically to His fleshly image. Everything that Jesus did, created the image that He was perfect in everything that He did, which then also reflected the image and perfection of God the Father.

Jesus Christ was created by God.
1 Cor 8:6 - “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
It indicates here that Jesus went out of God as the text contains the term “all things” thus meaning that Jesus was created by God. It further indicates that there is only one God, the Father, of whom are all things and Jesus Christ took that which God supplied and gave form to it, which included the cosmos, angels, mankind and animals. It also indicates here that there are two separate entities namely God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
There is only one God, and Jesus Christ accepted the role as the Mediator after He has been resurrected from the dead and went to heaven to sit at God’s right hand side as Man.
1 Tim 2:5 - “There is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
It indicates here that there is only one God and also that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and man. This is a very important fact to remember as some believers/ churches teach that you do not need Jesus Christ to go God. Here we have an indication again that there are two separate entities. The churches also confess that Jesus Christ is ‘God’ and this text shows us clearly that Jesus is ‘man’ which thus then declares the Trinity confession invalid.
Jesus Christ affirmed here that He was with God “before the world was”, therefore we can accept that Jesus was the co-God before He came to this world, and existed before the world was created.
Joh 17:5 - “And now, O Father glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory I had with thee before the world was.”
Here we see Jesus’ request to God in prayer to glorify Him with the glory He had when He was with His Father before the world existed. Jesus Christ was not just an ordinary man, but truly the Son of God, the Word that became flesh. Jesus Christ prayed this prayer just before He died on the cross, as He knew what lay ahead for Him. It also indicated here that He had to give up the glory which He had, for a specific reason, and He pleaded here to God to glorify Him with the glory that He had when He was with God. This glory can also be viewed as the same Godliness that He had before the earth was created, that which He had to give up to become man. It also indicates that Jesus was not God on this earth.

John referred here to Jesus Christ which was born of God, thus created by God.
Joh 1:13 - “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
We can see here clearly that Jesus was born by the will of God, like a new born baby and that His creator was God. He was thus created by God which is why God called Him His Son. He was also the first begotten of God which means that He was the first one that was created by God.
Jesus was not only the Firstborn before all things or of the whole creation, but also the Firstborn that was resurrected after death so that He could be the first in everything.
Col 1:16-18 - “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. And He is the Head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the Firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the pre-eminence.”
Paul uttered these words because this concealed information was made known to him and he wanted to share it with the people. Please refer to verses 24 to 29. It states here clearly that Jesus created all things in heaven and on earth. This text also indicates that Jesus would be the first in all things ie His birth, or creation of God before anything else existed, and the firstborn (of God) to be resurrected from the dead, and the first one to begin a new glorified human race with an everlasting life with God. Everyone that accepts Jesus as their Lord and Saviour may one day have a chance to be part of the new resurrected glorified human race with Him in His kingdom.
According to the Biblical texts, there is only one God.
1 Cor 8:4 - “…..and that there is none other God but one.”
At the time this text was written the message clearly comes through that there is just one God, as Jesus Christ who was a God, gave up His Godliness when He came to earth. This text also affirms that the text Joh 1:14 earlier in this document, where it was pointed out that the one God or Word, gave up His Godly status to became man, is thus correct. The teaching by some churches that Jesus was totally God and man on this earth is thus also not true as the only God that remained in heaven after Jesus, God’s only Son, relinquished His Godliness when He came to this earth, was God the Father. If Jesus was God on this earth, this text would have quoted ‘two’.

Great sermon. I just do not agree with the statement that you made that Jesus is God and man at the same time. The reasons are:-
The Bible teaches us that in the beginning there was more than one God.
Gen 1:26 - And God said, Let Us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
It creates a clear picture here that God instructed to at least one other Creator to assist Him to create man. God communicated with the other Creator/s and said “Let Us make man in our image.”, and God definitely did not speak to Himself. It specifically points to another Creator/s which had the same creation power. The fact that the text refers to “our image”, definitely refers to God and His co-Creator’s image, which means that the co-Creator was on the same level as God. If there was only one God, He would not have given the instruction to someone else and the Bible would have quoted something like - “And God decided to create man in His image and His likeness…” .
The following text indicates to us that in the beginning there were two Gods:-
Joh 1:1-2 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.”
Here we see that the Word was with God, therefore two individual entities, and that the Word was also a God, therefore two Gods. The verse also states four other things namely:-
    • the ‘Word was with God’ which means that He left God afterwards.
    • the ‘Word was God’ which means that He has given up His Godly status and was not a God anymore.
    • It indicates that the ‘Word was in the beginning with God’, before the existence of anything else, and that the Word left God afterwards.
    • It further indicates that the Word that was God, was the same God in the beginning with God, basically a double affirmation of two individual Godly entities at the beginning, and when this text was written it created the idea that the Word was no longer with God.
If the Word did not relinquish His Godly status, the text might have read as follows and could there be said that Jesus was God on this earth:- “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word (IS) God. The same was in the beginning with God.”
