    @JLHOWARD40 & Aigle9223 :
The official language of the Eastern Roman Empire was latin until the beginning of the 7th Century, although, being in the east, the largest part of the population used greek as vernacular. The educated and the scholars did use latin, a tradition that began to wane after Greek became the official language of the State.

The profundity of this chant, and the seriousness of its spiritual fervor, only brings home more powerfully what we have lost in the Roman Tradition since the 60's. This is "food for the soul"; now they give us cotton candy! Gratias frater et Pax.

We actually don’t have to endure; my patience with trying to rationalize Vatican 1 in spite of the Mountain is Errors from Vatican 2 is at an end. If this “Amazon Synod” in particular doesn’t convince you that Popes can, indeed, teach error, then you will believe anything. The only Hope for Western Tradition now is Western Orthodoxy. Apart from a few minor elements from Trent, and the second and third phases of Gothic Architecture, Orthodox Antioch has wiped clean the innovations of the last 800 years, and we can now practice our faith as if there had been no Schism.

I am not sure about the date of composition but it was in use from roughly 7th century AD to 13th century AD. I'd say, lacking evidential data and as a rough guess, considering the style that it was composed during the early to mid 7th century. Next week I will be posting a 12th century transcription of an ancient (6th-7th century) Byzantine chant that has certain similarities to old Roman chants like this one.

David had great potential and while he obeyed God's commandaments and lived righteously God blessed him and prospered him and made him a rich man and a king, but when he became rich David started to forget God and forgot to master his passions and this put him in the hands of the adversary.
And then the adversary, the son of iniquity ended up having power over David because he let his soul fill with lust over another man's wife, and that same lust also drove him to murder the man.

+Assen Andonov . GIve me a break. That sort of language is what's brought us to this sorry state of east versus west; while we should both be standing together against the savagery of bloody, evil, satanic islam.
I would politely point out that nearly all the heresies of the past 2000 years have come from the east: Nestorianism, Arianism, Gnosticism etc... and only through Rome, acting and keeping Truth, were these errors purged from Christendom.
I must add that the west's abandonment of the Byzantium East is a point of eternal shame, but let's look forward to dialogue and reunification under Christ. All of Europe and the west faces a much larger and truly evil threat from the muslims and their evil migrating horde.

Filoque, Papal supremacy, Tomas D'aquina and many other basic parts of the catholic theology are heresy. Saints of the last few centuries, with Holy Relics, have made this clear. Many signs were also given over the history of Christianity. The fact that some great Saints Holy Fathers were in Rome at the time of the early Church and the heresies does not make the post Schism Catholic church correct in any way.
This is the truth and the countless miracle workers of the east and Holy relics attest to this, as well as the fact that in the west, salt is used in holy water, while in the east it lasts for YEARS without anything.

The bible teaches to pray only to the Father and that there is One mediator, only one... anything you ask in my name... none other.

And you have an advocate, always and forever whilst you breath and are in the land of the living, the Comforter...The Holy Spirit if you are born again or blessed Apostle John and others who were granted the gift in their mothers womb. The whole idea is a PERSONAL relationship. You must believe He sees, hears and knows all * before you ask... yet you must ask, seek and knock. Humble yourself and with faith you will be counted righteous.... surely He hears the prayers of the righteous... if He loves the sinners and reprobates and is most merciful ( the sinner on the cross), sending his only begotten Son into the world, and the Helper as promised, then He hears the righteous. Those in the good books pray for that which He desires. So what does He want from you, not what you want from Him. As you please Him ( faithful, loving, kind, etc... then as written * he knows what you need and desire.33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The chapel is a fusion of a western cathedral with byzantine mosaics and islamic woodworking - fitting for being in Sicily - perhaps the most invaded island in History.

Hello my brother in Christ, I beg you to return to the ancient Roman church, Christ's mystical bride on Earth
"You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone." James 2:24
Paul does indeed say that man is not saved by works of the law. But he was referring to works of the mosaic law that Christians born Jews demanded new Christians obey.
Paul also say "Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you." 1 Cornthians 11:2
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it Matt 16:18
I encourage you to read Revelation 12:1-17, to see the queenship of the Virgin Mary
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." Luke 22:19
This is the most important point of all. The Eucharist is the true body and blood of Jesus Christ, Christ was born in Bethlehem, the house of bread in Hebrew.
Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. John 6:52-53
I encourage you to read the Apostolic Fathers, especially the matry St Ignatius of Antioch, who writing in 107AD to the Romans say, "“Bread of God is what I desire; that is, the Flesh of Jesus Christ, who was of the seed of David; and for my drink I desire His Blood, that is; incorruptible love.”"
My brother, it is the Mass that matters

Wow, so if this is Roman and I think of Jewish, Arabian and Christian religious music I know from the middle ages, it seems to me like all three focused on different aspects of this kind of music, from roughly this point in time. The Christians seem to have focused more on the harmony and chords and were trying to create more reverb in the buildings where they sang (think Avé Maria or something similar), Arabs seem to have been more into the solo parts, one very melodious player hitting a lot of notes (like the minarets singing the verses of the Quran) and perfecting their buildings for that, and the Jews sound to me like they were more into the folk music and dancing provoking parts (like the song hava nagila and so).

It shoud be mentioned that during the early Christian period, the Roman(Imperial) Catholic Church was based not in Rome, but in Constantiople. The Pope wasn't even the "offical" head of the church then.It was the Eastern Roman Emperor who was(with the Patriarch acting as his liason). All matters involving Church cannon came from the East.Rome was simply a provincial capital and the Pope as the Bishop of Rome had little say in chruch doctrine. That's the main reason why this sounds Byzantine in tone.

    • @michelleg7

No it did not, the patriarch of Rome was Protos among all patriarchs, second Rome was just where Constantine built the first Basilica of St. Peter, he didn't build it in constantinople, he built it in Rome. The Pontifus Maximus was the boss of the Patriarch in Constantinople.

Greek was spoken in Rome for a long time too don't forget. I disagree with you on the authority of the Bishop of Rome though. There were many times Rome had to rescue the East from heresies and such. He made rulings on things like the validity of heretics' baptism which were accepted by the Church; he excommunicated the Asiatics (yes he was criticized for this but he did have authority to do it). You also have the curious exclamations of bishops saying that "Peter has spoken through Agatho!" etc

Yes, they needed the Pope's permission because Christ had said: "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church (Mt 16:18)" as well as: "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 16:19, Matthew 18:18)" Moreover, for example in the revelations of st. Faustina Jesus repeatedly told her to be obedient to her confessor and to the Church and not to seek her own will.

This is definitely an early cristian hymn sounding like almost every other byzantine christian orthodox hymn. Nothing at all to do with Rome, as roman music, continously interacting with greek music was polyphionic. Classical music is polyphonic and has it's roots in that older music tradition. What we are listening to, here, is a monophonic (or should I say catatonic) RANT. It's mainly influenced by jewish religious music, if not completely replicating it. I need a Bach pill after this.

    • @duh_istine
      @duh_istine 5 лет назад +3

Cross is a symbol of Christ's voluntary sacrifice made for our salvation. When He, being God, died, he destroyed death, and made possible for his beloved people to live forever, as intentended from the beginning. Therefore, cross is not only a symbol of His sacrifice and victory, but also a reminder for all of us that, in order to be like our Lord and with our Lord, we must carry the weight of our own cross, which is different for every individual. Cross is nothing more than a symbol of sacrifice, and without a sacrifice, there is no faith. Silk and robes? Well, it came to the church gradually, with time, but i think people who wear it are more important than the robes itself. Jesus sent his apostles to teach people, to spread His word, to cure the sick etc. He sent them the Holy Spirit, to give them the ability to do all that. Thats how the Church was made. First apostles then "made" (idk the right word in english) other apostles and so on, until today. So yeah, despite silk and robes, todays priests are the right men to follow. Offcourse, I'm not saying that all of them are good, but in general, they are the men chosen by the God.

@@duh_istine you are wrong there my friend.. the orthodox did forced and mass conversions.. where do you think the pagan peoples of those lands went?? They were annihilated by the early church.. they also had a practice of blood libel...
Blood libel or ritual murder libel (also blood accusation)[1][2] is an antisemitic canard[3][4][5] accusing Jews of murdering Christian children in order to use their blood as part of religious rituals.[1][2][6] Historically, these claims-alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration-have been a major theme of the persecution of Jews in Europe.[4]
Blood libels typically claim that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover, although this element was allegedly absent in the earliest cases which claimed that then-contemporary Jews reenacted the crucifixion. The accusations often assert that the blood of the children of Christians is especially coveted, and, historically, blood libel claims have been made in order to account for the otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as a Christian martyr. Three of these - William of Norwich, Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln, and Simon of Trent - became objects of local cults and veneration, and in some cases they were added to the General Roman Calendar.[who?] One, Gabriel of Białystok, was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church. or maybe this??
Persecution of Old Believers in Russia, with some old believers being murdered, many more facing persecution, and thousands fleeing Russia for Siberia or the New World. I am no expert in this but, while murderous, this is less murderous than a lot of religious persecutions. Also, many Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox clerics supported violent antisemitism, compared to Western Europe, the Orthodox Churches were more mixed in their treatment of Jews.
The support of the Church for the 1967 military coup and subsequent nondemocratic governments. While it was clearly not led by the Church, the Church had a close relationship with the juntas. Important slogans from this period include "Greece for Christian Greeks" and "Religion, Family, Tradition". Though it's worth noting that shortly after the coup, the military made Archbishop Chrysostomos II resign and replaced him with Archbishop Ieronymos I, who was more coup friendly.
Some have implicated the Serbian Orthodox church for its role in the violence and ethnic cleansings that characterized the break up of Yugoslavia.
So don't think the orthodox are so holy....
