Kenny ,outstanding diagnoses, so many techs go on the assumption that the vehicle runs it cant be fuel pressure . you went back to the basics and tested the fuel pressure and confirmed that the fuel pump is way out of spec , and you did not swap out any other parts . I am surprised the truck ran as good as it did with only half the fuel pressure ??????

A good tip he didn’t include because it doesn’t apply here is to see how fuel trims responds to throttle position. When both the short term and long term fuel trims are maxed out like in this case, this won’t help.
But if the fuel trim comes back down with increasing throttle position, it’s most likely a vacuum leak because there’s less vacuum when the throttle is opened and the unmetered air is less of a problem, proportionally speaking, because the engine is pulling in much more metered air through the throttle.
If the fuel trims increase with increasing throttle position, meaning the engine runs even more lean and calls for more fuel, it’s a fuel delivery problem or a dirty/faulty MAF. Either it’s asking for more fuel and the fuel delivery system simply can’t keep up, which makes the trims climb higher or the dirty MAF is allowing even more air into the system that isn’t being metered properly.
Also, a good rule of thumb for the MAF reading, if you don’t have the specifications available, is that you want 1 gram/second of air at idle for every liter of displacement. A 3.8L should read at least 3.8grams/second on the MAF, generally. It should usually be somewhere in that ballpark. If the reading is lower than the displacement, it’s not necessarily bad or dirty because it’s just a rule of thumb, but it should at least be taken into consideration as a possible culprit.
None of these are hard-and-fast rules, it’s just tips to help point you in the right direction.

Kenny when that seat belt bell runs when you are setting in it with the key on just press down on the seat belt red plastic piece on the seat belt latch on you right side to to stop that darn bell from going off all the time learned that from my 2003 F 150 does it if door is open and key is on without the seat belt latched up they will do that 👍

The customer said there was a problem with the carburetor, and the fuel pump was bad? Irregardless of the fuel delivery mechanism, they were close to being right. Take the customers advice with a grain of salt, but you need to listen and consider nevertheless.

As a shop owner myself (38 years) I have an agreement with my accountant,I don’t do my taxes and he doesn’t work on his own car. Us old mechanics that started out with carburetors, points and condensers always start from step one when diagnosing a customer’s complaint. The 3 Cs Complaint, Cause and finally Correction and if you stick to this plan everyone is happy. One last thing there is No such word as Irregardless it’s simply Regardless. Look it up

Ford had a TSB a whiles back regarding lean b1&2. Look at STFT b1&2, if they're high(lean) rev to 2-2500 rpm if they come down to normal range (close to 0+ or - 10) it's a vacuum leak. If they don't change or get worse it's a fuel issue. LTFT is an overall average so you may not see an immediate change. STFT is real time correction. Always check STFT first. 🙂

hey long term trims on ford take forever to change look at short term at idle and at 2500 the negitive at idle.... no vacuum leak it was lean higher up 17 psi yea drop tank time! maf sensors were a big thing but not here ahhh your in earnhardt neck of the woods was a big fan

If the MAF was bad , after cleaning , would it show low grams per second at WOT ? Or could that possibility be a restricted CAT ? This was definitely a bad fuel pump .
