I agree that’s a huge part of why so many people from that specific camp have become VERY talented fighters. A few other factors but that’s a huge one!
Drew Dober actually got the record for most knockouts in the UFC lightweight division.
Makhachev dealt with Dober just fine on the feet and ened up taking his neck from half guard. Dober couldn't land a glove on him, and we saw Dober putting people out lately. I get that Poirier is no Dober, but we won't see Makhachev exchange in the middle with Poirier. it's not happening. He never does this.
I believe Dober and Poirier were tied for most KOs until Poirier knocked out BSD.
I agree with you when you say Makhachev won’t do that, if you watch until the end when I get to breaking down Islam I explain how he stays safe and causes inactivity in his opponents. I think we are on the same page here. Makhachev won’t play Poirier’s game.
@@138MMA There's too much at stake for Makhachev to do some like that. Poirier is no Volk and he's way sharper than Dober. He's got bricks for hands and his combinations are deadly.
It's no secret; Makhachev has to take it to the as soon as possible.If he tries to stand and bang with Poirier, it's just a matter of second before he goes down.
Even Khabib and his granite chin felt Poirier's power from mid-distance.
Islam has never been one to stand and bang. When he’s standing he stays completely at range and uses his kicking game until he finds his opening. He’s all the way out or all the way in.
@@138MMA Exactly. I beleive we're gonna see Makhachev use his wrestling right away "a la Khabib" and try to make Poirier very hesitant.
And let's not forget that Makhachev's wrestling is also effective in the open. He doesn't need the cage to implement his wrestling and grappling.
We saw that in the Tsarukyan, Dober and Wade fights.
@shadowzeenko3653 absolutely. I believe he sticks to the single leg in this match as well in order to eliminate the possibility of the unlikely guillotine
Logically Islam wins, the takedown pressure always subdues the knock out ability. Like when Khabib knocked down Conor. Though personally I believe Khabib is a better grappler than him. Albeit he needed the fence to do most of his work. But I think Khabib wud have finished Volk, where Islam couldn't. I just feel like Dustin is going all out in this fight being that he knows its his last chance and he said he's going to lay hands on him and I believe it. He just needs to keep the fight standing long enough to do it. Islam says he has something planned for him which makes me wonder what his approach is going to be coming into this
If anyone can pull it off it’s the diamond! 💎 I still think Islam gets the job done though.

Something very interesting that Conner brought up and if you’re reading these I’d like to hear your take on, is Dustin’s southpaw fighting style. Islam has only fought two southpaws , one he was knocked out by the check right , the other Dober lasted until round 3(granted didn’t land anything) . I’m thinking the check right is gonna be Dustin’s weapon of choice , he sat down Chandler, Charles , Conner , and Benoit with. Conner stated there’s openings with that southpaw style that Dustin can exploit
But this was a great breakdown , definitely subscribed to listen to more
I love the added insight here John! Another thing to keep in mind about Dustin’s check right hook is that he’s actually right handed but chooses to fight southpaw most of the time.
I do believe Makhachev has changed his style a ton since his loss, but the diamond is great at finding that chin! I feel like Islam’s approach here will be similar to how he handled Dober’s power. It’s going to be very interesting to watch!

@@138MMADustin had no history winning fights against top level opponents by submissions, you're just high and too much alcohol by imaging Dustin by the Gilly 😂. Im a Dustin fan, and by anything Dustin would win the fight is by Knockout, fighting the urge jumping the gilly, and lucky punch, keep in mind after Makhachev first loss, he bolster his striking defense to be the best at Lightweight right now. Even I recognize Dustin by KO is a tall ask, but hopefully the brain of yours get my point.

Poirier is the best boxer islam has ever fought islam got ko by a guy no one remember who is a southpaw and poirier is a southpaw and the only wrestler poirier ever lost to was khabib and islam is no khabib islam record is very padded he beat bobby green who was on 14 days notice, beat volk on 11 days notice, and beat armen on 5 days notice, lets see how he deals with poirier on 8 weeks notice funny islam vs hooker islam was only a -475 but against poirier he is a -650 wow so hooker is better than poirier is what the odds makers are saying.
Odds makers are wrong all the time and new information changes lines. Poirier can certainly outbox Makhachev, I just don’t see Makhachev playing that game with him. He’s changed his style a lot since the Martins loss and he’s shown much better fight IQ. Poirier is a great dog to have your money on but I can’t do it here.

Islam's key is take down. If he made it, Dustin will be in big trouble. If Dustin could avoid it, Dustin has a chance.. otherwise, Islam will finishes him in R2 or R3.
Thats a big "if" Dustin can avoid the Takedown, Dustin aint Volkanovski who is No. 1 pound for pound at that time. 😂
Even standing, Dustin can’t be content to stay at range, he needs to strike from the pocket.
