      I'm German, and something I've so many people have called me is a Nazi without knowing me or knowing what a true Nazi even is. German history is so much more than just good and evil it's emotional and really deep and I have to say, when I played that campaign I was genuinely taken away by how well it was made to the point where I almost cried. The way all of the crew members acted was really well played and the actors did an amazing Job. Thank you for bringing this up again.

      @voreist9652 3 года назад +57

      @Mirage_Panzer wdym by that? The ending wasn't really unrealistic. Just because the kid wasn't shot from the German soldier doesn't mean its unrealistic. A lot of germans towards the end of the war were done with the war in general. Its also a notion that the kid checking underneath the tank wasn't a volunteer because towards the end of the war germany conscripted any able body to be sent to the frontlines. So its entirely possible that ending could occur.

    • @voreist9652
      @voreist9652 3 года назад +19

      @Mirage_Panzer those i can agree with you on. However there could be some very very situational conditions that could make them semi realistic. Like the tiger scene, tigers were said to run out of ammo before they destroyed all enemy armor combatants because of how weak Sherman's are against enemy armor. So a tiger commander seeing only 3 shermans might get extremely arrogant or cocky and challenge them head on even though charging enemy armor is never advised. however tigers could face entire American armor battalions and still live. As for the elite battalion, this is towards the end of the war, training is being cut short due to resource shortages and more bodies being needed to the front so its entirely possible that some if not most of that battalion is undertrained and has little combat experience. Both the Wehrmacht and SS had poor training towards the end of the war because of these issues. As for the scene itself bullets barely do anything that is medium armor or better, grenades as well unless bundled together like AT grenades are. As for anti tank weaponry they are usually stored on supply trucks or other various vehicles and sometimes tanks. So the first 2 or 3 supply trucks that were destroyed in the beginning was detrimental to that battalion and would take more time for the other supply trucks to reach them and get the panzershreks or panzerfausts to the soldiers. Again these events are not likely but plausible. It would take a very skilled and highly trained crew to be able to pull of this stunt. Onto your statement about the German kid, he's a kid. SS battalion or not, that might of been his first engagement at all in the war. The Wehrmacht were fighting for Germany as opposed to the SS who were fighting for hitler. So a very few amount of Wehrmacht officers/high ranking officials knew about the holocaust. As opposed to the SS. However towards the end of the war The SS got a hold of the Wehrmacht conscription list and was able to force conscript from there. So the later in the war, the less the SS were fighting for Hitler. It can be also speculated that the German kid represents Machine from before he killed germans. He didn't want to kill anyone because he was scared to until he was forced to and it represents acts of karma. That being said not every German was a monster born from hell. There were plenty of nice Wehrmacht officers who treated everyone with respect including those from the opposing side, SS officers too however these numbers would be extremely small. Either way fury isn't very realistic but also could be plausible under certain circumstances.

    • @voreist9652
      @voreist9652 3 года назад +7

      @Mirage_Panzer forgot to add but moving while shooting severely hinders the accuracy of tanks. So its also plausible that the very poor accuracy was due to the tank in motion rather than standing still. Especially the shermans as they were not reliable and were possibly one of the worst tanks in WW2

    I know the kid was a evil little shit, but I think his character was one of the most enduring elements of this story. Especially when he says "the weak don't survive, Those were your words! Say it! It was like that!" He was so confused and scared, because his entire life he was brainwashed to think like that. At the end of it, he was just a confused child who was mislead to think that what was going on around him was acceptable. It also helps understand the grief that Peter was probably feeling in that moment. "Those were YOUR words." The sentiments he was fooled into believing helped form the monster that shot Kurtz.

I'm very well aware of how not all of them were Nazi's, but people who keep saying stupid shit like "history is written by the victors" or "they will never tell this/these stories/story for xyz reasons" have a great tendency to forget what the warmongering nations had done to where it doesn't surprise me that there'll never be an influx of stories/representation for them to sift through the trash heap of fanatics that did start the war, that spilt the blood of millions. Granted, if we don't look at our former enemy in a different light, we'll also forget how they too were victims of evil seducing them. that i do understand. but i still don't blame many for not jumping at the idea of trying to showcase to the world that our former enemies weren't dotted with blood thirsty fanatics.

      @@wacky3486 The truth is there were no baddies. All sides were about equally bad, and the opportunities and the severety of their situations decided what went on. Human action, from worst to best. The Germans got the blame as the loosers of the war. All sides had camps. The Sowjets used most of the German ones without pause after capture. They already had killed a higher number of people than died in the 2 WW before it even started. The Brits starved about 4 million people in India in a man-made famine though their war policies and 'priorities'. After the war the western allies used German forced labour in the millions. Not only prisoners of war were forced. The French were vindictive, letting people clear mine fields without the proper care, their government citing that about 2000 prisoners were killed monthly by that. Small numbers add up. The food situation in Europe was catastrophic in the 1940s in and after the war, you can find pictures of civilians who look like from the death camps. While
      The good guy American narrative can hold some water. The pow camps of the Americans have officially the lowest numbers of deaths, but they were the shortest in existence. And they were usually really only that pow camps, not forced labour ones. In the end, there are still missing people in the low millions. Probably dead somewhere in France in a limited number and a higher one in the Sowjet Union. Like the Reich wanted to starve the Russian country side, the Allied forces had a plan to starve the germans and reorganize the land in the middle of Europe. This was a possible scenario. And it was not abondoned because of good will but because the western allies wanted Germans to be a wall against the Sowjets. The US took all the inhuman experiments findings, be it German or Japanese. Took the most scientists in. And according to now declassified documents, that they probably mistakenly didn't destroy, a lot of people continued their research on US black sides.
      Well, that's about the random bits of stuff there which is kinda ignored.
      It's also about time and year. In the war and right after, you had situations like stated above from France. Just put a gun to their head and let them 'clear' the mine field. Later you had volunteers for that because of good pay, the still terrible food situation, needed equipment, treatment in case of injury, and a rent to widows.

    • @wacky3486
      @wacky3486 3 года назад +67

      @@iwankazlow2268 I don't think you fundamentally understand why there's a narrative of the Nazis being the super evil bad guy that they're portrayed as. So I'll try to explain it as concisely as possible.
      So when it comes to camps, people never really complain about Germany's pow camps, as it's pretty accurate to say that everyone's pow camps were about as awful as everyone else's. The big thing here is the concentration camps, y'know, the imprisonment of millions of Jewish citizens who were systematically and actively genocided, numbered, used for science experiments and executed for no other reason then being Jewish. This is something that is insanely well documented to an absurdist point, if you want more information on those crimes against humanity, you can always look at the Nuremburg trials.
      We of course also have an ideology that was introduced by Germany which wasn't only incredibly heinous, but surprisingly stupid and incomprehensible. Good ole fascism and it's odd child, Nazism. Fascism stating that the only reason for people to live is to die for the godly power of the state, to sacrifice one's individuality and personhood for it and to take everything away from anyone who dared reject it. Just imagine the world of 1984 and you've imagined fascism. And Nazism which is basically the same thing that it's for the race and the state, of which is also entirely arbitrary because they're literally unable to tell who is and who isn't a part of the glorious Aryan race due to everyone following the ideology being unable to do anything without someone telling them. Basically just 1984 but somehow worse. While I am making fun of their ideologies, it's mostly due to how incredibly stupid they are when you do the smallest amount of research, fuck me dude they couldn't even bring themselves out of economic austerity after starting a war and genociding millions of people due to how incompetent they were. Couldn't even do that.
      Regardless, as bad as some of the war crimes that were committed by the Allies were, they don't have shit on all of the incredibly fucked up shit Germany did (also consider the fact that Germany literally started the war by invading poland lmfao, even their own sources confirm they did), and we haven't even touched on everything the entirety of the axis powers did during that time. I haven't even touched on all the shit Germany did. So considering all of this, I'd say that Germany rightfully deserves it's title of the super big bad guy of ww2 and I wish more games actually went into those atrocities

    That ultimately was the big difference between the First and Second World Wars. There was no real German retreat in 1918. Hitler on the other hand was a madman who felt that Germany deserved to burn if it wasn’t victorious and his army was basically forced to fight to the death.

      Certainly the ideology played a part, but there is another huge factor. In WW1, they knew surrender was an option. They signed an armistice and faced harsh terms, but that would be the end. For the German leaders in WW2, this was not the case. The allies demanded only unconditional surrender. No terms. Those who surrendered, especially to the Soviets, faced oblivion. For the whole German leadership, surrender meant execution, as happened at Nuremburg.
      The Germans were given the choice "Surrender and die, or fight and die." Their response was only human.

      Tbf to this Sturm guy, the US-UK did trade German prisoners to the soviets as part of a series of prisoner exchange deals in 1945.
      There still is a big hole in his argument though.
      The USSR mostly took prisoners that served mostly in the east front but was captured in the west front. This way, they can judge those POWs for their actions in the eastern front where they mostly served rather than the western front where their combat action was minimal.
      Peter, the commander of the tiger tank in this story, never served in the eastern front however since he only served in N. Africa and the western front. Thus, the Soviets would have little interest to inflict a reprisal sentence on him because they never even saw him in combat. It wouldnt make sense for the Soviets to write down tons of paperwork, set up a plane in Berlin and create a new extensive court trial just to send a guy they barely know about to a gulag.

      "Some" is a good word here because CoD has pulled some serious stories in the past. First Modern Warfare and World at War come to mind as some of the best shooters in history, with WaW being arguably one of if not THE most brutal depiction of WW2 in video games. Especialy the Eastern Front, showcasing the attrocities commited by both Germans and Soviets.

    You know, when I started playing this one I expected to be fighting Soviets or something. I was surprised it was the Americans. For some reason, it almost felt relieving to see the script flipped on its head like that. And it was particularly amusing to have a better grasp on what my enemy was saying for once.

    What I love about this scene is how it humanizes the taskmasters of fascist regimes while not holding back any criticism of the fascist system that compels them, or even of the people it humanizes. Fascism is a deeply inhuman ideology that only begets self-destruction, and this scene does an incredible job of portraying that.
