TheC64 / C64 Maxi (Version 1.6.1) - Teardown, Review & Hardware Guide 2024

A detailed technical tutorial & review of the C64 replica "TheC64" (C64 Maxi) with the latest firmware version 1.6.1 and the special "TheC64 Joystick" with an insight into all board components (SoC, Ram, NAND, mainboard, etc.) and the available connections. This is a game console in mini PC or Raspberry Pi format with specially adapted emulators of the C64 and VC 20, as well as an extended “Competition Pro” joystick. There is also a detailed insight into the built-in keyboard, the interface used and the controller. We also took a look at the operating system, the menu management and setting options, the pre-installed games, the built-in snapshot function, as well as own content on a USB stick. With almost 100 percent software emulation and extremely high compatibility thanks to the VICE port used, the "TheC64" is a nice and serious alternative to the original, which also appeals to younger gamers and retro newcomers, provided you don't attach any importance to using original hardware. Even additional hardware such as the 1541 floppy drive, the 1530 data cassette, cartridges, and REU extensions are supported.

Eine so ausführliche Vorstellung des "The C64" Maxi habe ich, so weit meine Erinnerung mich nicht täuscht, in der nun schon über 4 Jährigen Lebenszeit des Models noch nicht gesehen. Danke für diesen Beitrag den man sich bestimmt in 10 Jahren noch genau so gut ansehen kann wie heute!
