  • Raga Chords - Natabhairavi / Asavari
    How is everyone doing? I am back in Delhi and just remembered that it is Wednesday today, which means RAGA CHORDS!!
    I had shot this one before I went for a break, so here goes - Natabhairavi, know as Asavari in Hindustani. Commonly known as the Aeolian Mode or the Minor Scale in western music.
    Hope you like it.

    Raga Chords is a series of videos which will explain the set of chords that can be used for various ragas. It will have song examples wherever possible and some examples of progressions that work well.

      @@KarthikSekaran Looking forward. Beside the beauty and elegance of the ragas, sounds and the emotions it creates, it’s mind blowing to see so many movie songs based out of ragas.

      Kartik sekharan ji,your videos are wonderful. When the scale,chords & ragas are explained, why not with a little bit of kritis from Indian ragas and popular movie songs as examples.

      As the note A is not on the scale. You can take G sharp/A flat to make a D Diminished chord. You can also replace diminished chord with G minor chord, if the melody stays on note D

    Sir,Namaste,Nice singing sir ,Thanks.Is Natabhairavi equally to Asavari ?.Natabhairavi is sampurna - sampurna ragam. But Asavari is oudava - sampurna. How can they equall ?.We can Asavari that is equallent to Nata bhairavi .

    • @KarthikSekaran
      @KarthikSekaran  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks. Here I am referring to Asavari thaat in Hindustani music. Natabhairavi in Carnatic is equivalent to Asavari in Hindustani. I hope you are not confusing it with Asaveri in Carnatic.

    • @veeraraghavuluarigela9022
      @veeraraghavuluarigela9022 2 года назад

      @@KarthikSekaran Sir, Asavari Raag is janya of Asavari That .Raga Asavari :S R(komal),M(suddha ) P D(komal ) S/S N(komal ),D (komal),P M (suddha) G(komal ) R(sudha)S .It Penta - ocata scale .Suppose we think they are equal,Gamakas treatment is different. Acasavari is close to jaunpuri.

    • @KarthikSekaran
      @KarthikSekaran  2 года назад

      I think this will help us
      “In pre-Bhatkhande days this Asavari used the Komal Rishab instead of Shuddh Rishab. When Bhatkhandeji created the thaat process, he changed that Asavari's Komal Rishab to Shuddha Rishab but the name remained the same. From that time the old or real 'Asavari' has been called the Komal Rishabh Asavari, and the new Shuddha Rishabh Asavari is simply called 'Asavari'.[1]”
      So you are referring to the Komal rishab asavari, which as you rightly said is similar to Jaunpuri. In that case, the chord composition will be similar to Raag Bhairavi or Hanumatodi in Carnatic.
      The shudha rishab Asavari is equivalent to Natabhairavi and even if it’s penta-octa, that shouldn’t affect the chord composition 😀

    What's the difference between this and raga Darbari kanada...??

    • @KarthikSekaran
      @KarthikSekaran  Год назад +2

      Darbari kanada is derived from Natabhairavi. its a vakra raga, meaning it has zig zag notes. ALso, the Ga and Dha have a characteristic gamaka in Darbari kanada.
