Good morning Tara, loved the plum process. I encourage you to research a "Victorio," for processing fruit. It's a large food strainer that clamps on a table. When making apple sauce you quarter apples, cook on stove with water until soft. It then grinds the peel into one container, and the sauce into another. No peeling of apples or decoring. It also has attachments for grapes and tomato juice. No electricity involved. Hope that helps.💓

My late gran had plum and apple trees in her garden and would always make pies, jam and chutney. She would obviously give us some, but the rest would go to her neighbours. Oof, just saw the news of terrible wildfires in Portugal right now, I hope the fires stay well away from your area and that you don't get hit with smoke. I know the impact of wildfires too well where I am. Good to see the heavy rain helping to mitigate potential fire danger.
If you make jam don't do what I did - burn it. I now have ten jars of bramble jelly , burnt in my cupboard which I cannot bear to dispose of. All those berries picked - painful. Lovely to see your enthusiasm and joy surfacing every program - Love you guys .xx

I was in Bahrain visiting my son and his wife who own Unisono , a Branding Agency.And was amused to see in one of the furniture shops a Rain Tube designed to make the European community out there feel at home - a long tube you tip up to make the sound of serious rain.How funny is that? Quickee tip - if you have lemons sun dry them till almost black then you can have dried lemon tea - very nice. @@TheNewbys
Nice project! You'll never be able to purchase a lathe with a mouth wide enough for those posts for non-commercial use (extremely expensive/large machine), but you could have a go with a hand grinder to get most of the material off. Thanks for the video!

You would be amazed how much rain comes off a roof, gutters make a huge difference. Designed trenches will funnel it around the edges of your property. I’d be interested in a way to store and use the rainwater for irrigation.

If you leave the stones in the plum jam or chutney and cook it will give more depth to of flavour. More depth if you bottle the stones. They are nice to suck on after you have eaten the sandwich or meal, like you do with Chinese salty plum. The nice thing is you don't have to peel the plums. You could make a plum sauce

Tara I do remember my grandmother making plum jelly. She used a huge wash pan to boil the whole plums in. I guess she must of strained them because I do remember the plums boiling. My favorite was the foam off of the top. She would refrigerate it and the next day we would have it on our toast. It was sooooo good. I'm with Crusoe, I love plums too. Also like you, I thought allspice was a bunch of spices mixed together. I use it every Christmas in jam cakes. I learned something new from your channel today.

My mum made plum chutney and she would weigh the plums and then count them. Then when all the boiling was done she knew how many pips to fish out...once she got the required number...then she knew she had got them all!
Loved the post. Especially the plum chutney. We make plum jam and it is our favorite. One thing I noted briefly was a shot of some large pine cones on your property. If you are lucky, they will be filled with pine nuts so consider checking them out for another harvest idea. Great job on your channel.

There is a little gadget that you could use for de pipping, it is for cherries as well and works great with the small plumbs, may be they sell one there. And the bed.. I enjoy your videos and appreciate the positivity and joy that you share with us. In the states, we have 2 resources for farmers - county farm bureaus and university affiliated “extension” services. Both organizations provide information, consulting, and advice. Maybe there are similar resources in Portugal.

What an abundance....NZ Edmonds Cook book, Plum Sauce MIL made every yr. Delicious. With cold meats..All looking good guys. Can see the fruit 9f your hard work. I love the pavers.. ..bamboo is like a curse to clean up...I would get a permaculture designer to come and work out a rain harvest plan before planting food. You could collect all that water. E.g. huge pond...you guys are amasing

Greetings from Kenya. I make marmalade and chutney which I sell. For jam / Maramalade, you leave the pips in as you need the pectin to help make it set. In chutney you don't want it to set like marmalade. I have a great recepit for Mrs Balls Chutney. It calls for peaches and apricots, but I have used mangos. Happy to share with you. Also glad to hear about mozzie nets. We were wondering what to do with ours from here and it looks like we will be bringing them with us.

The little plums are probably Mirabelles. Some have the funny habit to turn really sour when you cook them (especially the yellow ones), even though they are really sweet when raw. You could try a pinch of natron (bicarbonate) to avoid it.

You probably wont see this since I have just recently found you and been going through your videos. Not that you would want to but seeing this was a wine making farm in the past I wonder if they made some Plum wine like my grandfather use to make.

The bed looks like it's going to be very nice, the plum jam looks so good it gave me an idea if you mixed some with cream cheese and made a cheesecake out of that I bet it would taste amazing. Also if you were to make a little pond to catch the rain water and the duck would have a place to swim that might be an idea you could use even getting water containers that catch the rain and hook them up to a filter and run it to your off grid water system is another way to have backup water and you wouldn't have to worry if you had more problems with the well system because you have another water source, just an idea. I hope you are doing well. Tara you continue to glow more each week can't wait to see the little one. Nice project! You'll never be able to purchase a lathe with a mouth wide enough for those posts for non-commercial use (extremely expensive/large machine), but you could have a go with a hand grinder to get most of the material off. Thanks for the video!

You would be amazed how much rain comes off a roof, gutters make a huge difference. Designed trenches will funnel it around the edges of your property. I’d be interested in a way to store and use the rainwater for irrigation.

If you leave the stones in the plum jam or chutney and cook it will give more depth to of flavour. More depth if you bottle the stones. They are nice to suck on after you have eaten the sandwich or meal, like you do with Chinese salty plum. The nice thing is you don't have to peel the plums. You could make a plum sauce

Tara I do remember my grandmother making plum jelly. She used a huge wash pan to boil the whole plums in. I guess she must of strained them because I do remember the plums boiling. My favorite was the foam off of the top. She would refrigerate it and the next day we would have it on our toast. It was sooooo good. I'm with Crusoe, I love plums too. Also like you, I thought allspice was a bunch of spices mixed together. I use it every Christmas in jam cakes. I learned something new from your channel today.

My mum made plum chutney and she would weigh the plums and then count them. Then when all the boiling was done she knew how many pips to fish out...once she got the required number...then she knew she had got them all!

Loved the post. Especially the plum chutney. We make plum jam and it is our favorite. One thing I noted briefly was a shot of some large pine cones on your property. If you are lucky, they will be filled with pine nuts so consider checking them out for another harvest idea. Great job on your channel.

There is a little gadget that you could use for de pipping, it is for cherries as well and works great with the small plumbs, may be they sell one there. And the bed.. What an abundance....NZ Edmonds Cook book, Plum Sauce MIL made every yr. Delicious. With cold meats..All looking good guys. Can see the fruit 9f your hard work. I love the pavers.. ..bamboo is like a curse to clean up...I would get a permaculture designer to come and work out a rain harvest plan before planting food. You could collect all that water. E.g. huge pond...you guys are amasing

Greetings from Kenya. I make marmalade and chutney which I sell. For jam / Maramalade, you leave the pips in as you need the pectin to help make it set. In chutney you don't want it to set like marmalade. I have a great recepit for Mrs Balls Chutney. It calls for peaches and apricots, but I have used mangos. Happy to share with you. Also glad to hear about mozzie nets. We were wondering what to do with ours from here and it looks like we will be bringing them with us.

The little plums are probably Mirabelles. Some have the funny habit to turn really sour when you cook them (especially the yellow ones), even though they are really sweet when raw. You could try a pinch of natron (bicarbonate) to avoid it.

The bed looks like it's going to be very nice, the plum jam looks so good it gave me an idea if you mixed some with cream cheese and made a cheesecake out of that I bet it would taste amazing. Also if you were to make a little pond to catch the rain water and the duck would have a place to swim that might be an idea you could use even getting water containers that catch the rain and hook them up to a filter and run it to your off grid water system is another way to have backup water and you wouldn't have to worry if you had more problems with the well system because you have another water source, just an idea. I hope you are doing well. Tara you continue to glow more each week can't wait to see the little one.
