I love this song because the first sound is “ugly” but it’s actually what’s adding so much personality to the entire song once the rest of the sounds come in

and that's exactly what the song is about
This song eerily means a lot to me in many ways. Recently a friend of mine passed away that was a Twitch streamer, kitsuneko42. She was one of the kindest friends I had and she was friendly and loving towards everyone that was on her streams.
She was very big on loving yourself and accepting yourself and this almost feels like a message from beyond the grave somehow. Even the fox mask mirrors her character which has a green left eye and blue right eye.
I miss her so much, and I hope her partner that is still with us who can be very self-doubting sees this as a message to accept themselves and that they're loved. Rest in peace, Kitsu. Your community loves you and misses you.

Hearing Nurture-era vocals used intentionally here rather than a way to mask his own singing voice just shows how far Porter Robinson's confidence and genius has risen since 2020. Really good song overall!

@@xx-noodle-xxit's mainly from the time from a few years ago when porter released an album called nurture where it had vocals similar to the ones in this song, except heavily edited or covered up. It's still him, but the way he made it sounded completely different. The best song examples I can think of showcasing that is probably Mirror and Look At The Sky

I think its him expressing hiding behind something such as fame, designer clothes, or partially the effects he used on nurture because he was more self conscious back then. I think theres also another layer to it with how porter isnt using nearly as much vocal alteration as he does on nurture showing the improvement of his conscious from back then, and using a more authentic version of those vocals as almost a homage to his past. This could also be completely wrong and im misinterpreting the song
Kitsune Maison is an interesting name because while it initially sounds like it's describing vanity, kitsune could be interpreted to mean fake (or faux) and in English maison most literally translates to home. It's the appearance of pleasure without any of the stability, a fake home.

Sounds like porter is finally transitioning into just having fun experimenting with music.
He went from making music because he wanted to, then felt too much pressure and wanted to live up to an imaginary standard because he got popular so young, took a break and came back with a new sound talking about getting though mental struggles, and now he's here.
Even if I personally don't like some of the songs, I'm happy he accepted himself and is having fun with music again.

"I got my teeth fixed and I regret it so much man I can't get the teeth my mom gave me back in my mouth" i literally love this, something so normalized that all teeth need to be straight perfect and white copy and paste in everyone's mouths, nobody thinks about it and just gets the work done on their teeth this compared to the message of the song is just ugh perfect
4/4 so far. 2024 is going to be goated because of this album.
I think this is a commentary on how society pressures us into meeting certain beauty standards and how harmful it can be to try to live up to everyone's expectations of what one should look like and throwing out your true self in order to please the people around us, hence the line "trying to look good, trying not to feel bad," because those that don't meet the standard get berated and mistreated a lot, and it's quite upsetting.
The chorus reinforces the idea that we shouldn't have to worry about society's expectations and just be our true selves, because that's what makes us beautiful, not the designer clothing or perfect teeth or a skinny body. Just us.
I also looked up the title on Kitsune Maison. Looking it up on Google, Maison Kitsune is a clothing brand & music label. Along that vein it also said that it's a french-japanese company I believe. Maison in french means a house, typically one used for businesses and Kitsunes are known to be beautiful shapeshifters that are known to be mischievous, or more commonly known to *seduce* people. Basically it's a shop that helps people change (shapeshift) into looking prettier, more attractive and more appealing, going into these shops to do so. A shapeshifter shop. Just my two cents

We shouldn’t feel bad for who we are. We shouldn’t feel the need to indulge in material things just to feed our fragile egos. Because at the end of the day, when you end up overcast, what matters isn’t the clothes on your body, or your money in the bank, but, rather, the impact you leave on others.

We are so quick to judge others but in reality, everyone is doing best they can to get by. the little section of him talking about him thinking he discovered the thing making him feel would elevate him but in the end, he ended regretting his getting his teeth fix, man.. I can't wait to see you live later this year and hear this song live. right now, in this stage in my life, Porter is helping me get by some the hardest parts. thank you for that. don't ever give up on your self, your music is honestly therapy for so many of us. I definitely feel ugly every time I open up my mouth, definitely want to replace them, broken and decayed teeth from injuries and improper upkeep because when I've been depressed it sapped motivation to brush too many times, then it gets worse and I have less motivation to take care of myself, and it gets worse, which leads to less motivation, it just cycles and spirals, makes me feel too ugly to even entertain dating, even though I find myself to be an attractive person, lord knows I can't risk opening my mouth and having people see my fucked up teeth.
