Is Israel Trying to Draw Iran Into the War?

- The Iranian Ambassador to Syria Hussein Akbari just told multiple international news sources that earlier today the Israeli Air Force used F-35s to launch what he described as “six missiles” at the Iranian Embassy in the Mezzeh District of Damascus, killing between 5 and 7 people including Iranian military adviser Gen. Ali Reza Zahdi, who led the elite Revolutionary Guard Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria until 2016. Two police officers who guard the building were wounded according to Akbari.
The strike took out the consular building, which includes the ambassador’s residence. The adjacent main embassy building was untouched.
If reports of the strike are accurate, the question is whether Israel is trying to draw Iran into the existing conflict more directly and to what end.

Not saying Iran is anything special out of the many countries in the world, simply saying that it's an actual established country with a very long history. Palestinians have a decades old history. Persians have been around for thousands of years..
My comment was about Iran establishing themselves on the boards to inflict as much destruction as possible on Israeli citizens and military. Which has only just ramped up fully the last decade or less.

Iran has been coordinating the war by directing its proxies to do its bidding. No matter how many proxies Israel destroys they will keep coming at the bidding of Iran. Israel appears to have decided to go after the command and control elements directing the war.

I do not think that Israel is trying to draw Iran into the war any further than they are at this time. However, I do think that Israel wants Iran to realize that Israel can be a dangerous foe and is not afraid to respond.

I’m pretty sure that Hamas is collaborating with Iran in some way and was probably influenced to invade Israel to disrupt the diplomacy between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Neither countries like Iran, so an alliance between the two would be a big threat towards Iran, which is why they might want to stop it.

@@psychohist No, the IDF has made a few other uses similar to this over Syria previously.
They ok for the moment however technology is changing fast. They are expensive and require substantial maintenance you need a safe space to park them. Watching Ukraine where tactics ok last year do not work this year.

The general was on Iranian soil in the embassy. Iran is an ally of Syria. It's 1 thing for Israelis to hit alleged Iranian military targets in Syria; it's another to attack their embassy there, which is an attack directly on Iran.

US and Israeli intelligence have both said that there is no evidence that Iran was behind the October 7 attacks. Several of the actors have said that the attacks are related to the war in Gaza. Stop the war in Gaza and if the attacks continue, then consider dealing with Iran. Otherwise, we would be engaging in an unnecessary war with Iran that could draw in other nations.

I lived in Israel during the 1978-79 Camp David accords. If there is a single principle that drives all the country's foreign and military policies it is "Never Again." Israel has been dependent on the US for too long and has become increasingly genocidal. Israel have no right to attack any target in Syria, and no right to attack an Embassy, both are in the UN charter. Iran hostage crise was done by Iranian students, while still under former goverment. They did it since they knew CIA was using it to sabatage any protest and reform by the people. So when the Shah went to US for cancer treatment, they toke the embassy, to get shah return for trial. Carter biggest mistake was not to do it. Then the kicker, Reagan talk to those in charge and told them hold the hostage for loner and when he become president, he would give them a better deal. You can look this all up. It's not hard. This be mere in line US bombing Societ ambassy in East Germany. First breaking the crime of targeting something in another country, and second targetiing embassy. Iran’s relationship with these groups is a bit like the US relationship with Israel. They receive arms, they don’t take orders, and there’s probably a fair bit of pearl clutching in Iran over the actions of these groups the same way the US gets a bit concerned when Israel goes off the deep end.
