Nice video, thanks. Why NH-dichromate over K-dichromate?

Potassium dichromate is much slower. Thank you for watching!

Hello sir, nice viedeo and very informative. I want to ask, how do you dispose the gum bicromate solution from leftover or the dirty water from washing after exposing?

Hi Bill, I hope all is well on your side. Thank you so much for all your informative videos, which are brilliant sources of hands-on information! I wanted to ask a question related to all the processes as I had some doubts about my processing technique. I started with Cyanotypes and progressed to Kallitypes, but on the way, I was not sure if my clearing was sufficient. I do mask negatives and paper with your technique, and there is a residual sensitizing covered by the frame. During the processing, the coloured residue washes off, but the slight paper discoloration always stays. Is it the indication of not complete clearing, or is it normal? If you find time to shine a light on this, I would be hugely grateful. Best, Pawel

@North Light Photographic Works, hi Bill thanks for the video. When mix the dichromate solution with the gum and ink can it be stored or must be applied on paper straight away?

Hi Luis. Thanks for watching. The document is ready from the time you mix it until it evaporates pretty much. As long as you keep it in a well Stoppard bottle and in subdued light, it should be good for a very long time. I’m sorry I didn’t get to this question faster!

Hello Abdur. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any experience doing this, but I’m sure it can be done. Perhaps with some coding on the metal first. I will ask around and see if there’s anything like this out there. Thanks for watching!

Hi Bill....Where did you get your spiffy little scale?

Hi Tom. I’m pretty sure I got this one off of Amazon. Just look for some thing that does small amounts. Many times you can find them at health food stores for weighing out small amounts of food, etc.

    Hi Bill,
do you know an alternative to "Ammonium Dichromate" because I can't buy it in Germany?

    • @BillSchwab

Hello Hans... Potassium dichromate will do, but is slower and is more prone to precipitants and may require filtering. Is it possible to ship AD in from outside?

Thank you for your answer, I will look around in other EU countries. Greetings from Germany Hans@@BillSchwab

@@hanshabel9100 Hans, as a tricolor gum bichromate printer for thirty-five years and a gallery represented artist, I can tell you that potassium dichromate will work just fine. And I have never seen precipitants in the solution, nor has it ever required filtering. I use a five percent solution for my work. Speed is a relative term. Most of my exposures are in the range of five to ten minutes. Potassium dichromate has been the choice historically and it is used in a variety of other alternative processes and printmaking techniques. If you can find it, please know you can use it with confidence.
