  • I've taken a stock Corsair 16g PCIe cable, an aftermarket 18g PCIe cable and a set of popular extension cables and have done multiple tests using the Sun Moon ATE to find out what kind of voltage drop we see. This video is number one of what will be multiple parts.

Hello! I am using MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 PSU paired with a Zotac RTX 3080 Trinity OC(2x8 pins) currently using 1 cable daisy-chained to it. Will the cable handle it?
Also, gotta mention, I visited the PSU site, it says use the two vga connector. Should I follow the PSU manufacturer after all?

Yes. Using the one cable with pigtail should be fine. The MSI uses 16g wire like the first test I did.

you stated in your discord that specifically the connectors were indeed melting. why?

Not 8-pin connectors. ;-) This video only shows 8-pin connectors. Are you talking about 8-pin connectors?

What about the 18awg main, 22 awg daisy of the leadex iii gold, big no no right?
And a 16awg with 18 awg daisy would that be fine for something like a 3080 Founders?

18g daisy should be fine since it's only

@@jonnyGURU have you done any tests on how the different setups would handle the big spikes and transients of a 3080/90/6900xt ?

@@UnluckyDomino Yep. We're doing that testing on a daily basis. Wire gauge has no impact here. The transients are just too fast. A poorly thought out analogy would be lightning. :D 300kA of power that's only 2-3cm in diameter. :D

Probably not. Download Furmark, Prime95 and Linpack Xtreme. Run Prime95 and Linpack and then run Furmark. After Furmark runs for about 5 minutes, go back to the PC and hit the space bar once every 10 seconds to make the "fuzzy donut" disappear and reappear. If it shuts down, replace your PSU ASAP. If it still works, replace your PSU within the next year.
