I have watched all 3 segments of this video multiple times. Severinsen is so unusual in his candor. I have rubbed elbows with many great players who won’t talk about what he says even after years of study with them. He is a great technician who can make music too. That’s rare. There are many who possess the first and not a hint of the second. Some are famous too. Best of all he’s a great human being and it comes through in these videos.
More people need to see this. This man is not a Tumpet player!! He is a musician that plays the trumpet! It was great to get an inkling of his musicianship!
Where was this video made, in Edmonton, Alberta? Doc speaks to Al Lowrey, now prof. emeritus of music at the university, who was a classmate of mine at the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
