@bellahelly That's exactly what Rossini did! He plagiarised himself :P In fact the overture of Il Barbiere is made up entirely of bits and pieces from his other operas, as he lost the original overture.
There's no overture lost for the Barbiere. The Barbiere overture was originally the overture to Aureliano in Palmira, then used for Elisabetta and eventually for Barbiere.
omg!!! that aria from the beginning is almost exactly the same as una voce poco fa at the beginning... just like non piu mesta from la cenenrentola and ah il piu lieto!!! rossini recycles music from his own pieces!
