That price is mainly because it's a pre-order. You see this a lot with startups; A high price in the beginning before they've got a proper manufacturing facility. I wouldn't be surprised if the price plummets in the next few years.
This is awesome. This enables normal people to live more independently from big corporations like monsanto or the wealthy elite in general. This is also a perfect way to prep for the coming foodcollapse and economic crisis.

Fully support this idea! However, I have raised hundreds of thousands of mealworms over two years in a $25 plastic multi drawer unit available at any big box store, or office supply shop. Fed them nutritional yeast and a little veggie scraps. So I don’t understand why this is that costly. The screens are nice, but even that is easily figured out by the home DIYer. This unit is very elegant looking...might be great for a high end restaurant who can afford to pay this price, and needs the enclosures to conform to aesthetic and city food codes.
Thank you for your comment. We understand your questions and your points. The Hive Home which you see in this video is not available any longer as it sold out. Check thehiveexplorer.com for our educational mealworm farm. The Hive Home in this video was designed to make mealworm farming as easy and convenient as possible, smell free and compact, so that those that live in cities too can enjoy it from smaller apartments. All our farming devices are also designed to be an educational experience and come with a booklet or magazine with facts, games, activities and recipes. You sound like someone who has been doing this for a very long time, which is great and we totally support DIY. Our mission as a social enterprise is to re-design the experience of farming insects for those that are not necessarily into it quite yet, and to do so we found over the years that the experience of rearing insects has to be convenient and pleasant, so all our products are a result of re-designing the insect farming experience to make it easier. Additionally, we want people to start thinking of insect farming as something that can easily fit into their home environment and that looks good in their apartments, rather than something that needs a lot of space or a basement and that may not look as good. All these things encourage people to adopt insect farming as an alternative protein solution or even a composting solution for the home. We also produce educational content and carry out workshops to elevate insects to their role of human allies so that more and more people will be aware and keen to know more and hopefully in the future also consider edible insects. Thanks for checking us out and we hope you will subscribe to our channel to follow our educational work too!
Hello, I want to get some edible worms too, could you tell me what should I search for when I want to get good worms. Method you described is how I'd do it, but I don't know what worms to search for, as all e-shop disencourege me from eating their worms.
They did not explain what was the function of every level of the drawer... In every life cycle of the Mealworm... Shoud buy regular drawers ang customize it..
If it can recycle the food leftovers and transform them in newfood then it is really fantastic. Please include in the bottom a drier and a grinder, so that all that comes out looks like brown sand. We normal humans have to get used to it.
nice can you make a something similar for other water animals like shrimp until people like insects again but if can make one for fish like japeanease anchovease ill buy one of those
the product is pretty . The packaging is pretty. Just like with meat you dont see the insects as alive. So the price is high. If it was subsidzed like corn or soy itd be popular.
some cook them alive, although that might be cruel so maybe if you dont want to be cruel squish their heads before cooking them i guess less efficient tho
Cool. I like the design. But I think your product is a bit out of the Price range of most people. It might be an Idea to figure out how to produce a Similar product but cheaper. I think that within this market a product like this in a price range from 100 to 150 suddenly a lot of people will want to try. Because it is affordably. And do realize, If you sell one and make a profit or you sell a 1000 for the same profit. These days it is all in quantity. I bet the Quality of your product is really high. More that it ought to be. If it breaks down after a year or perhaps even two you will sell an other one. Make it so that the people bring back their broken product and recycle it. If you do not know how to sell your product properly you will fail. So put someone on it that makes your product look cool and amazing. It will be worth it. I really hope you will succeed. Best of luck.

200g - 500g mealworms per week? First of all: This is impossible with that box! And if it was true? You will not save the planet by eating 200g mealworms per week! 700 bucks for a plastic box - who is buying that crap?
Typical millenial business. Good idea, slickly marketed with an absolutely absurd price because their manufacturing cost is way too high or they're just greedy.
ad this: or they went out of business after cashing in bigtime on crownfunded cash from willing idiots.. the website doesn't exist so i'm guessing it was a scam
What does it exactly do? Is it just a bin? Does it have a humidifier and heater? What exactly makes this worth $700?
Not sure, but if your considering breeding mealworms you should just make something similar, wouldn’t even cost $20
That price is mainly because it's a pre-order. You see this a lot with startups; A high price in the beginning before they've got a proper manufacturing facility. I wouldn't be surprised if the price plummets in the next few years.
@paulsan2112 Yeah, pretty much
So.... did their start up fail? I dont see this for sale anywhere...
@@teru797 Because nobody in the west eats insects. They should have started up in Asia
I started raising mealworms 5 years ago. And I still love doing this.
Johannes Zakel iam from india can u explain how to develop inscets
Great innovative initiative ! Exactly what I've been looking for !!! Hope you have a great success !
You can eat that s*** if you want to
I think it's ingenious, but I have to admit $700 for that seems a bit much. I would spend $300 on it, but $700 is way too much.
This is awesome. This enables normal people to live more independently from big corporations like monsanto or the wealthy elite in general.
This is also a perfect way to prep for the coming foodcollapse and economic crisis.
Think about what you have written: you want to live independently with 200g mealworms per week? Wow

That price is mainly because it's a pre-order. You see this a lot with startups; A high price in the beginning before they've got a proper manufacturing facility. I wouldn't be surprised if the price plummets in the next few years.
Hmmm very interesting. How much do one of these units usually go for?
nice does it have cricket feture cause maybe someone can make salmon feed out of that also i think i like crickets more

Nubbel Freezer
some cook them alive, although that might be cruel so maybe if you dont want to be cruel squish their heads before cooking them i guess less efficient tho
A quick bath in Sagrotan and they are ready to be cooked ;-)
Why do people ask this question on a mealworm video? Nobody would ask this after a documentation about chicken or pig or cow farming
freezer
This is a great idea, but WTH IS UP WITH THE PRICE!?!? $699!?
Great way to dispose of a body
This is amazing, a liiiitle to expensive tho...
I wanna farm
