Ellie is giving us these True Heroes of rocketry and space flight. So much 'new' insider truths before the people. Neither NASA, the scientific press or mainstream media showed us this kind of stuff before. Most appreciated Ellie even over here in Europe 👍🏽
Great program. Have you looked at doing a program on Story Musgrave. High school drop out, graduate engineer, physician, neurosurgeon, jet pilot, NASA astronaut with 6 space missions, and one space walk to install a mechanism he designed to correct the Hubble telescope. He is now 89 in good health. Another amazing history/
Fabulous interview with Homer. I have the October Sky movie in my video library. What an amazing man. His stream of consciousness goes on and on revealing more and more interesting facets of his well lived life and accomplishments against the back drop of history. Thank You Ellie!
Wow, great interview with a special man. And 2025 will be a great year to watch Ellie in Space with Ellie in Space in a tank for astronaut training scuba diving. Good to know that Ellie has less risks for space sickness, because she was sick in the Vomit Comet.
As someone in the 60’s, building rocket kits and shooting them high, the movie resonated deeply with me. I met Homer at a lecture and book signing in Lexington KY., several decades ago. Will never forget his insights and what he wrote in my book ………. Such an inspiration !
Ellie that was so refreshing to listen to! I'm actually leaving this comment right now as I'm walking the beach collecting seashells and I can't believe 45 minutes just flew by that fast! There's no question that the long-form interviews and videos are certainly my favorite. Some folks enjoy the clips but I enjoy the entire interview so as usual, thank you so much for sharing this and I'm looking forward to more more MORE! 💙🤘🚀
Wow, as someone who spent 19 and a half years working for NASA in the Shuttle program, I can relate to what Homer is saying. We both lived and loved it. I took voluntary layoff after the program was cancelled. I regret not meeting him as I was there at the same time although he was there before I was. Thanks for having him on it was a great interview. With fascinating insight into the Space Program. Kudos Ellie.
Another fantastic interview! You should try to get an interview with Lori Garver, the former NASA Deputy Administrator who wrote the book Escaping Gravity: My Quest to Transform NASA and Launch a New Space Age.
Now that's an interview! A great guest and you ask a question and let him talk. No interruptions, no trick questions just good questions. You illicit a huge amount of information and just great stories. Very entertaining and interesting. Good Job!
What a great interview. Thanks. I was privileged to visit Johnson Space Center in 1988 and be guided around all day with my wife’s relative, Story Musgrave. He was in charge of the Mars Mission at the time. I went into the Space Shuttle training vehicle, saw Space Lab, and got a wonderful education from Story on space sickness. He said one of the contributing factors was being worried about one’s orientation relative to earth. He also trained before take off by sleeping with his head below level. I’m sure that Homer worked with him before he worked on the repair of the Hubble. Story told me years after his many accomplishments that the hardest thing he did was writing.
Amazing interview! Ellie, you did a masterful job in pulling out all of Homer's stories. Your questions were on point. I think every space fan should watch your interview. I loved it!
Wow, what a great and informative interview again, with such a great guest. Absolutely brilliant work Ellie! Always impressive. Addition: It is so enriching to have listened to this wise man. It is one of the best interviews I have ever heard. Thank you both very much for this enrichment and inspiration.
Ps I got to do the Underwater trainer at Space camp in 1997. We also got to see the tank he mentioned at MSFC when we toured the facility. You should definitely go and do it. You won’t get sick on this one. 🙂
Incredible interview Ellie ... Just awesome!! So informative -- AGAIN!! By the way, I'm 65 and just started Scuba Diving 10 years ago and was reserved about it for at first -- they teach you everything and it is just "one small step after another", and now I've been all over the world diving in some of the "bucket list" locations -- and it is AMAZING!! So you should consider trying it!! The scariness of it is all in what you don't know and imagine it to be -- which will become known and not scary at all!
I was born in 1957, the year Sputnik went up. I don't have much memory of the Mercury program but I was old enough to have at least some memories of Gemini and, of course, Apollo. I was 12 years old when Neil Armstrong set foot in the moon. I listened live (with about a 3 second delay) as he uttered those words, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." About that time my grandmother gave me a 10X telescope for Christmas or my birthday - I can't remember which. We lived out in the country about 30 miles north of Beaumont, Texas. The night sky had very little light interference from any nearby cities and, on a clear night with a full moon, I could look through the lens and just barely make out the craters on the moon's surface. The 12 year old boy went, "Oh WOW!" Hickam is right, it was a VERY exciting time to be alive. The exploits of Elon and SpaceX in the last few years have helped rekindle the sparks in the eyes of that young boy.
Excellent interview! You are always coming up with different stories about people and space. Keep up the entertaining and educational story telling. Well done!
What a great interview. I loved October Skies and Homer's book it was based on. I met Homer and Quint at an amateur rocket launch and motor building class in Texas.
Is there at least one technology from the 60s and 70s that we would not repeat and surpass in 2024? No! Everything was surpassed 1,000 times, except for the moon landing. All this is nothing more than a falsification of the response to the dominance of the Soviet Union in space. The landing of Americans on the moon is a big question. Of course, for a sane person)
Another great interview!! Hickam is a name I didn’t know but found him to be a great source of in depth knowledge of our space program and NASA!! Keep up the good work! 🚀🚀🚀🚀
Hey Ellie, love your channel! I think you might be interested in a game idea bouncing around my head: Imagine a space race simulator set around the year 2000, just as private spaceflight was starting to take off. Governments are still key players, but companies like SpaceX are starting to handle things like resupplying the ISS and launching satellites. Play as a government agency head (NASA, ESA, ISRO, etc.), a major corporation (Boeing, Lockheed?), or a success, so far, like SpaceX. The game would be grounded in present-day technology and physics, with a focus on managing resources and competing for contracts. No futuristic tech here! It would be really cool to see how players balance the commercial side with the scientific goals of space exploration. Sadly, I lack the programming chops to make this work. :( I'm just the idea guy! :) Keep up the great work, Ellie!
Homer and I follow each other on X. I was horrified when he told me the VP essentially fired him, and Eileen Collins from their NASA advisory positions. Massive loss! Thanks for the interview Ellie!
Thanks Ellie for a great interview. The Apollo and Space Shuttle missions became routine and boring for the Mainstream Media and politicians, but not with us. This time we have people like you to keep it interesting, and you're doing a good job. Really appreciate the variety of topics you cover. Would be nice if you could get together with the Intuitive Machines folks and interview them about their upcoming IM-2 lunar mission.
Once again Ellie, good and unique content presented in a quality manner! It’s kinda hard to connect with him, but you might consider interviewing the only geologist to ever set foot on the moon, Jack Schmitt!!! Watched October Sky on Prime tonight…it was awesome…thanks for introducing me to it!
Seems that this topic is really rising to the top. Yesterday, NASA spaceflight did an interview with Astronaut Charles Camarda on the same issue. He was on the Return to Flight mission and talked about the cultural problems then and now.
Wow. I’m in awe with Homer and can’t wait for part 2 and beyond please. He’s so nice and knowledgeable like Johnathan McDowell. Ellie, I hope you can go to the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory pool one day. Maybe you can go to space knowing that you are going to be less likely to get sick there than on the vomit comet? 🤔 Thanks so much. Lotsa love to all plus happy holidays too ❤❤❤
Bring on the second show. He was really working opportunities, He knows. Army Corp of Engineers rocket equipment maintenance training was my job, drafted in the, 60's. But I want back home to Railroading.
Would love to see you do something on the moonwalkers… I’ve always loved the Apollo program. I think Elon has tapped into that spirit of space in America again.

Love my Novium pen ❤❤❤
Love Homer's life story. Great admiration of the guy, making something of himself, and chasing his dreams
Homer’s closing comments were ❤ heart rendering, inspiring, & truly instructive. Here’s hoping he makes it well beyond 2029!😊😅
Ellie is giving us these True Heroes of rocketry and space flight. So much 'new' insider truths before the people. Neither NASA, the scientific press or mainstream media showed us this kind of stuff before. Most appreciated Ellie even over here in Europe 👍🏽
Thanks Ellie for the Hickam interview. It was enlightening and inspiring 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great interview! Homer Hickam is a new name to me and he has so many fascinating anecdotes to share. Thanks for yet more unique content Ellie.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you as always for watching
Homer's book Rocket Boys is well worth a read.

That would be a Great video!
This channel is getting better can see the hard work she’s putting in.

another awesome job, Ellie! I always look forward to your interviews
Awesome! You found Homer Hickam.

81 years old, he's still sharp!!!
Great final words from Homer!
God bless you Ellie. I am so glad you interviewed a national treasure like Hickam. It is great to get their take on space innovation then and now.
Man, that was so good! Well done, Ellie - you're the Walter Cronkite of the 21st Century!
I Love This discussion. October Sky is one of. My all time favorite movies. I can’t wait to see part 2. Thanks you so much.
I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching Part 1
Amazing interview! Ellie, you did a masterful job in pulling out all of Homer's stories. Your questions were on point. I think every space fan should watch your interview. I loved it!

Great interview again Ellie 👍 🤗..... Now there is a guy for Isaacman to hire💪
Wow, what a great and informative interview again, with such a great guest. Absolutely brilliant work Ellie! Always impressive.

Fantastic! Thank you Ellie and Homer
You’re welcome! It was great having Homer on the show.
What a fantastic interview! Besides having wonderful insights he also has a great dry wit. Thank you for this.
Homer Hickam! A fellow West Virginia boy. Glad you got this interview!
thank you so much! I thought he was wonderful

Homer is the real deal. Wise words.
Great vidio, Ellie. Homer comes across as a well educated productive good man. Thanks.
Hey Ellie, very good conversation with Mr. Hickam. I had no idea he was involved in so many diverse projects! Cheers!
He’s lived more lives than a cat!
Thank you Ellie for this great interview! Blessings for the Holidays!
Excellent interview! You are always coming up with different stories about people and space. Keep up the entertaining and educational story telling. Well done!
Thanks so much! I really enjoy sharing these stories. I try to keep you all surprised!
What a great interview. I loved October Skies and Homer's book it was based on. I met Homer and Quint at an amateur rocket launch and motor building class in Texas.
Engineers and test pilots got us to the moon in 8 years...scientists and politicians kept us in LEO for the next 50+ years.
