Back when I used to work downtown, prior to the "event", I really enjoyed walking in Point State Park at lunchtime. I truly was a treasure hidden in plain sight. I think that I only went into the Blockhouse once, and I hadn't been to the museum at all. Great history.
It's for sure a hidden treasure. It's been the opposite for me, actually, in that the blockhouse was always closed and so I visited the museum. They definitely put a lot of time and effort into the displays, especially the diorama.
@@hounddoghomesteading When I saw the one of your other videos, I thought that there was a little "yinzer" in that accent. The second video shows you sitting at the Point. :)
Readers Digest "Back to Basics" and the Foxfire series. Those are some of the basic forerunners of the modern homestead movement. From there, I'd go to a library or bookstore and browse the selections. As with field guides, some books have great photos but the descriptions are vague while others have great descriptions but the photos/drawings aren't the best. I recommend to folks to pick the books that align the best to the way they learn (some folks are visual learners, etc.)
love a wool blanket !!
Allen Eckerts Blue Jacket is a great book
I have "Wilderness Empire" but I haven't read "Blue Jacket"'. Thanks for the recommendation!

What books would you recommend for someone interested in preserving food, farming, homesteading in general, etc.?
