Footage of the funeral in Antananarivo of Colonel Richard Ratsimandrava, the Head of State of the Malagasy Republic who had been assassinated in a machine gun attack on Tuesday, February 11th 1975.
    Reuters Text:
Attending the funeral were the dead leader's family, members of the Ruling Military Directorate -- including its head, General Giles Andriamanazo -- diplomats and civil leaders.
Colonel Ratsimandrava was shot dead during a machine-gun ambush in the capital last week -- only six days after he had taken over full executive power after General Gabriel Ramanantson had stood down as head of state. The Colonel -- Interior Minister in his predecessor's Government -- at once formed a new administration and pledged a policy of decentralisation.
Colonel Ratsimandrava's place as head of Government has been temporarily taken over by General Andriamanazo as head of the Military Directorate, which has stated that it will rule the country until a new Government if formed.
Last Sunday (16 February), Malagasy security forces announced they had arrested four members of the rebel police force held responsible for Colonel Ratsimandrava's assassination.
