    Enron, weather derivatives, LIBOR scandal, MF Global. A whole bunch of insanity that went on for years totally unnoticed. Oh, until it was completely obvious. People don't know anything about what's happening behind the scenes and quite frankly, they don't give a damn. Poor suckers.

    I was going to make a more condensed video, put them into point form notes, do a presentation, split the images, etc. The article broke it down well enough so I basically read it. This isn't something I do in this depth. Usually I just touch on a point or two from an article. This was very different because you get to learn about ETF's as well as what's happening behind the scenes. I hope you appreciate it.

    The holders of the ETF will pay the capital gain when they sell the ETF for a profit. Why should the ETF itself be forced to pay tax on realized gains too? I believe that is the logic behind allowing this tax strategy by the ETF. In a competitive market, which ETFs definitely are, it's not like the issuer can just pocket this benefit...

      Trump should be impeached for begging everyone to buy into his stock market ponzi last December. Trump sits idly back and goes on like the economy and the stock market are correlated one to one. The real reason he ran for the presidency was to rig everything for himself and his banker buddies so they make all the money and the bag holders in the end lose everything.

      @@parkerbohnn if you listened to Candidate Trump, he explains exactly what is going on and how bad things really are. President Trump needs to keep this giant scam going a while longer. His investment advice in December was good. You'd have a gain if you did as he suggested. I'm hoping he's making moves that will help the American people but there's not a lot we can do about it. You're much better off guarding yourself and your family against the coming disaster. The politicians have already confirmed they will do nothing until the collapse. When the collapse does happen, they won't do anything to help the people. They will however lock us down some more to further enslave us. Be prepared for our "leaders" to hurt us.

    What this amounts to is a non-taxable barter system (transactions "in kind") among fund advisers and brokers, where brokers need to maintain an inventory of securities -- John Q. Investor would be advised not to hold his breath for the big payout anytime soon. I expect that an undisclosed motivation is the ongoing churning of fees related to the transfer of securities that can be written down as operational expenses to offset tax liability as well (wonder how many times the same security is flipped). Oh, and it creates the fiction of greater liquidity of securities than actually is the case, another win. Good to know the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in America!! ;)

    This is a good thing isn't it? If it weren't for heartbeats, longterm ETF investors wouldn't have the advantage of easily diversifying their portfolio or tracking an index while keeping longterm capital gain taxes low. The alternative is picking all your stocks yourself which involves extra expense and risk. Not sure why this is a such a bad thing.

My guess is that a "class" of stocks, say FANG, in a larger tech ETF appreciates above some threshold, these stocks are dropped and the ETF is depreciated, the ETF loss is realized by the ETF investors and when the fund repurchase of these stocks happens with no appreciable in the fund. Does that sound right to you?

    So exactly what is amiss hear. All the actions described in this video benefit the shareholder. They get to avoid paying capital gains taxes at the end of the year. It has created an industry that allows investors to take advantage of lower fees provided by these ETF's. You are trying to say AH HA busted when all you do is point out how these transactions are of 100% benefit to the shareholders in the ETF.

    • @Sharky165
      @Sharky165 3 года назад

      I agree. 👍🏻
      ETFs generally have lower fees and expenses than mutual funds, can offer similar instant diversification, and can pay dividends, _but_ the big differences (aka "secret sauce") are the intraday liquidity, lack of lockup periods, and the fact that the investor can employ risk-management tools like stops and/or Options.
      Mention those last three to a mutual fund portfolio manager or 401k administrator, and the odds are that they'll quickly change the subject. 😁🤣
