    The more I go through life the more people are starting to explain my life experiences from a scientific perspective, experiences that were once poo pooed and discarded by sooo many people in my life. I really must learn to believe in myself better.

    I could not click fast enough to listen! As a licensed professional counselor AND a person with EDS, seeing Dr. Porges on here was GOLD! I’ve done quite a number of his CEUs on polyvagal theory. I get so exhausted trying to talk with clinicians (behavioral health and medical) about EDS. I cannot be more thrilled someone as respected as Stephen Porges in the behavioral field is bringing EDS to the table. Thank you both!!! ❤🎉

    That’s absolutely it! I know my “anxiety” is physical, not psychological! It feels as though, out of nowhere, my insides are running for a bus they’ll never be able to catch. I’m so happy to hear this video…..thank you.

      100% Yes! We know when the anxiety response is not coming from our mind - it can come from nowhere. Quite separate to our thoughts and state of mind.🌿

    Thank you for this. Absolutely facilitating! I am a nurse so I find this such a useful insight into the mind and body connection and how we can best understand our patients, so that we can best treat our patients. I am also someone who has struggled to get Drs to listen or understand what is going on for me as who someone that is still struggling after an accident where I suffered multiple spinal fractures, cervical, thoracic and lumber. I also suffered hypoxia in this accident and it took me a very long time to regain my speech and cognitive function. I have been left with a chronic pain disorder, osteoarthritis, and hyperkyphosis after a failed fusion , also there is a ptsd component. I suffer from bouts of anxiety that come from no where and Drs are blaming my symptoms on the anxiety which I know isn’t the case, it is more of a physiological anxiety, rather than a fear or an anxiety of things happening to me, I just feel dreadful, I have balance problems, digestive problems, nausea, brain fob, swallowing problems, low mood, respiratory problems due to the inability to breath properly due to spinal deformity and lack of space on my chest, palpitations , digestive issue, dizziness, postural hypotension with a very elevated heart rate increase on standing. I haven’t fainted yet, but been close. shortness of breath. I am now doing research into how the combination of injuries and symptoms fits together. There is definitely something not right. I really do feel that the injury was the trigger that started off a chain reaction. I don’t know what’s up but it’s more than just in my mind as I feel drs think is what is happening and I feel that is such a poor excuse for basically saying I don’t have no clue what’s going on and I don’t have time to spend looking into this, which I’m a way is not their fault, but it’s sad because you feel so dismissed and when your life suddenly comes to a Gault in your early 40s after being a very fit, healthy, vivacious, fun independent goal oriented and hard working to someone who is a shell of their former self, sad, has no social life, l”unable to work and that has a financial toll, the worst is not being able to be the mother to my children I once was and that breaks my heart. Sorry debriefing here, hopefully no one will read this anyway. Thank you this was insightful and helpful

    I used body scanning and the yogic breathing method to help me with ptsd and it worked. I use it now as a dancer. I am fine when I dance to music - I ve known this for years - the doctor asked me if I want to get an assessment - but I need space in my life with peace - too many untrained people, interfering which makes me worse

    Great podcast! I have EDS, and I also have all the baggage that comes along with it: chronic pain, bruising, sprains, heart murmur, weird heart beat, asperger's, face blindness, etc. And anxiety, all my life. Which was made horribly worse after I was traumatized at age 36 by something that happened to me.

    Being told "It's all in your head" is so destructive. Anxiety is a normal response to being under chronic threat. Pain & dysfunction, especially undiagnosed is going to cause stress. I've had other medical issues that needed surgery dismissed as anxiety for years bc you get labelled. Then you over analyse yourself trying to find the "cause of your anxiety" when it was physical all along, causing more emotional stress.

  • @derekamanwiththegivennamej1082

    Cant thank this Dr enough, this all started with a brain injury and my bowels just stopped working. Add a second brain injury because of lack of balance from the first one, and the bowel and stomach pain went thru the roof, 24/7. Then i developed leaky bowel with overblown inflammation then causing dislocations of joints. Thanks a ton Dr

    The Asperger's must be the link causing the anxiety because it's central nervous system disorder

    i'm confused by porges saying the eds caused by a trauma trigger. People are either born with the genetic makeup or not. So does he mean ancesteral trauma? Or that the problems it causes are introduced after life trauma? Or that the whole thing could appear completely after a life trauma, in which the college was normal previous to it?

      My feeling is the problems become induced after the EDS is coupled with a trauma somehow. For instance I had signs of EDS and autism early on, also had some traumas growing up. My nervous system crashed after I gave birth, blamed it on lack of sleep etc. But npw looking back my body felt very structurally out of whack after (loose ligaments are a feature of pregnancy so mine were extra dysfunctional by the end of it). I also breastfed putting further stress on my posture. I couldn't go for walks for ages as my hips were in such pain and loose, popping etc. I saw an osteopath for awhile and got some better physically but the nervous system was on high alert after that, hasn't stopped. My body has never felt the same structurally and I never got pregnant again. I feel there's a strong EDS/nervous system connection for sure.
      This is just my own emerging theory of my chronic health issues but it feels supported by the info in this video.

    • @TheSoma07
      @TheSoma07 8 месяцев назад

      Subconscious is a psychological concept vs autonomic physiological state leads to both physical symptoms and we can react emotionally/cognitively to this state of alarm and lack of safety as “anxiety.” “Anxiety is that interpretation of that physiological state.”
