- Today's video is building up a bike I've wanted since I first started riding trials and saw Martin Hawyes and his Giant Trials Team, nearly 20 years later I finally get to build one up myself! Will it live up to the image or will I be disappointed?

When I was a teenager I bought mbuk magazine. 1 issue had Martyn Ashton and martin hawyes on the cover. They were in Malta trials at popeye village. 1 on Volvo 1 on giant. it was that day I tried to turn my Raleigh activator into a trials bike lol. I loved that giant.
Looks awesome Ali, an Ashton would be pretty cool next!
Now that my friend is a trials bike (Chain spotting gang).. All that you need now is the Volvo Canndale frame to complete the set..
I love the parts being thrown into place. That's an incredible skill to master! :D

Has to be a Cannondale Ashton or Diamondback Effect 24" next to go with the Hawyes. A Pashley Ed Tongue 24" would be cool too or Orange Zero Petr Kraus. Seeing this makes me want to relive my youth and watch Dirty Tricks and Cunning Stunts and Chainspotting! The Norco Leech was one of my favorite bikes ever, it started my love for steel frames. A Pashley 26mhz would be nice too or a Curtis T1 or T24! Covering all basis haha

The next frame should obviously be a red Cannondale like the one Martyn Ashton road in Dirty Tricks ans Cunning Stunts. A pure classic this movie !!!

So relaxing! Been loving watching the restoring videos recently, restoring old ww2 torches and the like. A retro bike version is just what I needed! Makes me want to build my pashley back up

I remember this bike from the movie Biking. Me and my brother used to watch it on VHS all the time. He went on to become pro and I gave up eventually, Just dabbling in trials from time to time lol
This is like a combo of my mechanics and Sam Pilgrim! Loved it!

My very first dedicated trials bike was built on a 14" cross country version of this exact frame. Looked identical except for round downtubes. Unfortunately the triple butted frame snapped a year or so later, but this brought back some memories for sure. Looks great Ali!

Man this is awesome, still the best looking trials frame ever IMO, cant wait to see how Hawziee's turns out too, even though #Itsnotafuckingcomeback it would be amazing if you could get him out for a spin with both of them! Cannondale next then?
Hands down one of the best looking trials frames of all time! I want to say the next one will be a Norco for Ryan Leech, but I don't know how rare those are in the UK, so maybe a Monty for Ot Pi??

Man... Ali this bike reminds me when I looked up to the martins in the 90s! Loved this bike build!! I had a specialised s-works! Like Jason McRoy had, along with cannondale p-bones polished forks. Race line brakes too! But I always wanted this gaint trials bike! Hope you have a good one on it!!!!

Oh, for those of us who remember the Martin's, we're showing our age. Loved this frame. Would be good to rebuild an old Pashley 26mhz. I got rid of mine and with I hadn't!!!
Wow. That is a beaut. I saw one in action in Stellenbosch (South Africa) back in 1997. Can't recal the Team Giant rider's name, but he performed with Hans Ray and Martin Ashton at the Downhill World cup.

You should get the cracked frame welded and turn it into a cruiser bike to go get groceries and stuff.
BOX is an excellent component! I run BOX two Cassette, chain, Rear derailleur and shifter on my 29er.
@@Ali_Clarkson Get to it M8! Its awesome. The derailleurs have a built in clutch no need for chain tensioner.
I just love your Videos you allways come up with new ideas, Even though you do the ,,same thing" its never the same! i Like it! Nice way to test the bars if their still good!! I know you probably hear this allot but its true😂😂

Yes that’s the problem,I had a ‘pro’ aluminium but I sold it 10 years ago and I’ve regretted it ever since!!!😩
Ali, Ive recently bought a wheelset for the Hope hubs for a build of mine. They came with a X lite Phatso rim and something other on the front. Both pre ground. No good for me, any use to you?

Hey Ali Clarkson! Great build vid! You always keep coming up with ideas to make it a bit different like this one with no dialogue! Could you use that crown race you cut upside down as a tool to hit with a punch on alternate sides to seat an unsplit race? Thanks for the effort all the editing takes! Your vids always make my day a bit better! Ride ride ride!
Best way to seat an unsplit race is to get a block of wood and drill a hole slightly bigger then the steerer in the block of wood, slide it onto the crown race and hit it with a hammer. Using another crown race runs the risk of denting or chipping the one you're fitting, which would make it useless as a smooth surface for bearings to run on.
@@Ali_Clarkson Works fine when you've got cartridge bearings, so the rolling elements in the bearing don't contact the crown race directly. I'm quite surprised that headset didn't come with a split crown from the factory to be honest. For loose ball bearings style headsets, the crown race is the surface the balls roll on, so it can't be slotted.

I think I’ll grind the front when on my fixed gear. I added a front brake but the rim is painted so it doesn’t work too well. I bet grinding it would make it work way better.
Would be awesome if you had an Ashton Cannondale frame, with fatty r's in the same blue colour, with a set of hs33 racelines, on to mavic d521's with the grey ceramic coating. I've got a set of square taper middleburn rs7's with the pro titanium bash guard and built in sprocket (16t I believe?).
This video was great, loved the silence with captions, great idea to aid with the viewing pleasure. Haven't seen one of these for a while.

I've got the same headset fitting tool at home. It's not failed me yet.
My dream frame when I was a kid, but I never owned one. I also use a block of wood to install headsets.
