    What I liked about the dorms is that I didn't have to worry about anything. I slept, I ate, I showered, I went to class, I studied, and then I started all over the next day. Yeah, every so often we went to the gym to play basketball or threw the football around, but that was about it. I was an engineering student, so it was pretty intense. It took a lot of time and work to get through it.

    What is the process of picking classes like? For example when do you pick classes and how do you know which ones are good with good professors? Also I ask a lot of questions because you are so helpful.

    • @KaylaMarieVids
      @KaylaMarieVids  3 года назад

      Usually you will pick out your first semester of classes at Freshman Orientation in the spring! You have the opportunity to meet with academic advisors in your intended major and they help you find what works for you :) I know a lot of students use the rate my professor website to see if a professor is "good", but I rarely use it because sometimes its not always accurate!

    I’m also a junior at penn state, and I agree w most of what you said! Here’s some additions for anyone else looking at dorms that I thought to add:
    The best commons are the east, pollock, and south commons. West isn’t bad, but north commons is dingy and super small.
    If you’re an engineering student (assuming in person classes come back) North or West are definitely the shortest walk to where most of your classes will be.
    If you want the traditional freshman college experience, highly recommend living in east. I never lived in east, I was a north freshman, and I regret not getting that wild freshman experience in east.
    Pollock is definitely the most run down dorms on campus. Even though West are the oldest dorms, they are pretty well maintained. Being inside one of the pollock dorms to visit a friend felt very cramped and kinda felt like being on a submarine, with pipes visible along the ceiling and narrow walls.
    If you wanna be close to downtown, south is definitely the way to go. South is also a really nice part of the campus, and south is also where the schreyer honors students live (in atherton hall, i believe)
    Definitely try to avoid supplemental housing at all costs. It’s usually 4-8 people living in a pretty confined space. Unless that’s something you’re interested in
    If you’re a freshman, don’t be afraid to make friends, especially if you’re more introverted. It took me til my sophomore year to make really close friends, and I regret not doing it from day one. The friends I’ve met at penn state are probably going to be lifelong friends.

      I'm looking at living in North in the fall, would you recommend it? I'm between it and East. Personally, having the rowdy freshman experience isn't too important for me, but was it still fun?

    • @JTdude63452
      @JTdude63452 3 года назад +1

      @@hollydeemer2132 I am currently living in North right now. North is usually 2-4 roommates suite style, which means you share a bathroom with 1-3 other people instead of a whole floor. You also will likely share a bedroom with one other person, with a common area in between which connects to another bedroom and the shared bathroom. North is a lot closer to classroom buildings than east, but you still have to walk uphill from down town to north. However, north is quiet compared to other areas of the campus. North has a really shitty commons (smallest on campus) so i would recommend walking to west for food when you can (although the market at north isn’t too bad). Robinson is for freshmen only, but I believe all the other buildings at north are renovated and have air conditioning in each room. I have only ever lived in Beam Hall at north, so I can’t say for the others for sure, but I’m 90% sure they are. I really like north as a housing area, it’s pretty peaceful here and relaxing and it’s a pretty decent area imo. Would recommend north especially if you have 3 other friends you want to room with, as being stuck with 3 random roommates might not be what everyone wants. If you’re lucky, you might get a room with no other roommates or only one, but since in person learning comes back next semester campus will likely be more packed than it is now. If privacy in the bathroom and quiet is important to you, i would say north is by far your best option (or maybe eastview terrace).

    • @JTdude63452
      @JTdude63452 3 года назад +1

      @@hollydeemer2132 in terms of north being fun, it depends on what you mean by fun. You probably won’t meet any of your neighbors and will only really talk to the RA and the people that live in your suite, so if you are looking for a whole friendly floor experience, you might not find it in north unless you apply to live an in SLO. People in north generally seem to keep to themselves. There’s also a lot of music kids in north
