To charge AGM 12v battery or , HV Cells make sure you charging 2 cells at the same time , do not plug charger to a single HV cell battery, you can use your old laptop charger , the volt will be higher ,the amps are lower. The one I'm using is 19v =2.37 amps charger . To make you self a AGM charger find an old laptop charger, make shure is between 15-19 volts, cut the wire right before plug in end , split the wire insulation, there are will be three thin wires , white+, Black-, and green you don't need that one. I use small plastic clamps from dollar store , to hold my striped wires on battery posts, white on positive, black on negative, let it charge for 6 hours, or more, check the battery voltage with multimeter, before plug the charger to the battery, and 1 hour later , to make shure is charging. If you are in hurry , try to jump start you car, jumper cables from running car to your car , negative to any grounded bolt on your car , positive to red plug located inside your fuse box , go to the car , get inside , put the key in, step on the brake pedal, pressed start , ones you sing "READY " on your dash board, make shure the parking brake is on and transmission shifter in "N" position, slowly press you accelerator "Gas " pedal , car will start , keep it half way to the floor or press it all the way to the floor, if it shuts off, keep it running for 5 minutes , should be enough to charge 12v AGM battery, an HV battery Cells.
how long should i let my battery charge ? prius gen 3, it was reading 12.2v when i started now its up to 13.0v until what time should i let it charge for how long? and voltage
You just might have saved me money on anew battery, mine is dead as we speak, I'm going to do the same you did and i hope it works for me, money is tight now
My 2010 Prius was giving me ABS/TCS/Brake dash warning lights. I charged the battery overnight and the lights went away. You didn't experience this with your weak/dead battery?
One problem with an automatic battery charger is the automatic selection of the voltage - either 6V or 12V. If the battery is really discharged, the battery charger may think it's a 6V rather than a 12V battery. A jump from another 12V battery (or a 12V jump pack) connected can be used to "trick" the battery charger into charging using 12V mode. The extra battery can then be removed. Having a manual battery charger available is another way around this problem. I prefer to use the jump pack to put my Prius in "ready" mode and let the car charge the battery for a few minutes - then put the battery charger on the battery and trickle charge the battery using the AGM setting. You must determine why the battery is going dead if this is occurring often, because the Prius acts weird when it has a bad aux. battery. The battery is very small and doesn't have much reserve capacity at all. It's only purpose is to boot up the three ECU's that start the hybrid system and also acts as a stabilizer for the 12V system. The bad battery will affect other systems and give you more headaches if the condition is allowed to fester.
@@moviestudioland i find it faster to apply the jump pack and put the Prius is "ready" mode so the hybrid system can rapidly increase the battery voltage. Otherwise, you must wait and let the jump pack charge the battery > 11 volts for my Schumacker charger to charge at 12 volts. Or just jump it with another car and charge it/start it. The Prius will eventually discharge the 12V battery over a 3-4 week period because of all the gizmos that draw current, even when the car is parked. The 12V battery is small and doesn't have very much reserve to speak of.
I found that my 2005 Prius battery was going dead because of the break Booster/actuator was going bad and leaking air. The system in the car would try to raise pressure using the 12 volt Battery. To fix this battery drain issue I'd have to get the Breaks fixed which is like 3 Grand so right now changing is my only option.
I probably should make a clearer video detailing, though the most effective way I've been able to charge the AGM batteries dead down to 1V is to use a power supply that is low current. Set the power supply, like an old bridge (mines not full bridge) rectified toy train power supply until the battery reads ideally 12V or more. Though I've left charged to 9V. Once the battery can hold a charge voltage, I connect to my desulfating battery reconditioner low current charger until almost 13V. Then I'll charge using my regular charger at 3A AGM mode. If the CCA isn't above the rated (where can be 100A higher than rated when new), then I'll put the battery back on the desulfating battery reconditioning charger and let the charge complete. Thanks for sharing! So far, only one battery hasn't restored out of at around a half dozen. That was from my, 2013 with ~285K and is the og battery. Amazingly, all the gen 2 batteries I found dead in the cars sold as dead, refurbed reconditioned.
Well, then get to it. You can post your video and you can post a link to your video on this one which oughta give it more activity. However I would only use a vehicle charger or a car charger for batteries I wouldn’t be screwing around with anything else which is not automotive related and try to adapt it that’s looking for trouble.
@@moviestudioland OK. Thanks for the motivation, affirmation and feedback. Thanks for sharing as well as is great not wasting potentially useful parts.
@@moviestudioland Here is the link to the related narrative regarding the latest battery I reconditioned. I also forgot to mention that this did work with the one Toyota AGM from a 2005 with approx 260K miles, albeit kind of pointless noting other than if for some reason others think the Toyota ones do not restore being that my only unsuccessful recharge was the 2013 Toyota og battery. ruclips.net/video/7V-L99Wojfg/видео.html
Thank you for this information it has helped me work out how to charge my Prius - it has been refusing to start and putting up some Japanese writing on the dash and talking to me in Japanese - it happens every couple of days and today it would not start for some time. I had to turn the car on and off a few times before it would start I think my issue is I only drive less than a mile to my supermarket or friend's place so it does not really get a chance to charge up.
@@moviestudioland I put my charger on it for only an hour because it is 6amp - it was completely dead this morning so I had nothing to lose. I rang around for a battery price Toyota sell century batteries here in NZ and their price was close to $500, Repco $410 and supercheap auto $365 - all the same exact battery. No matter where I get it from it will take a week to get to Northland where I live and I will still have to drive 40 miles to get it and put it in as there is no delivery service anymore for dangerous goods. My charger has an automatic pulse charge mode - I don't know if that makes a difference. But listening to your video it seems my 6amp charger may overheat the batter and make it warp so I only charged for an hour. The warning still came up on the dash and I got scolded by the Japanese lady - but he car did start so hopefully it will take a charge the day I have to pick it up. Thanks for your help.xo
@@MandyWoodArtistHi Mandy I also live in NZ and have the same issue with my Toyota Corolla hybrid. Were you able to solve the issue. There seems to be a Japanese text that says Auxiliary battery (for starting) insufficient charge in Japanese. Should I charge the battery or replace it? Also where is the cheapest to buy a hybrid battery? From repco or supercheap auto? Thanks hope to hear back from you!
Can I use a portable jump starter and connect it to the battery in the trunk? Because the leads are short and if so do I need to disconnect the positive cable?

I get this every time I leave the doors open - even though I make sure no internal, external or any other lights are left on. Why is this?? It is driving me batsh1t in this hot weather. Okay yes I could just leave the windows down - but I want to maximise whatever cool air and breeze blowing through the car while it's on the drive.
The battery in this video is still operating fine a year latter after a charge. If you leave the driver's door open overnight the battery runs down to 0 volts
FYI, the manual says you have to disconnect the battery before changing. I learned this the hard way.
What happened?

If you have the key sensor button on under the steering column and your keys are stored near your driveway. Your cars battery will be drained
I don’t see the key sensor button in my 2007 Prius. Can you clarify where it is?
Shouldn't you disconnect the charger before testing the battery?

Got it at Autozone? $40 or so. Probably costs $100 now with inflation.
