Noted on the speed, thanks. The thickness of the line is based on the font style you use... there is no way that I'm aware of to change the thickness of the strikethrough line on it's own.
Unfortunately not. You can change the underline color in Word, but you cannot change the line color of the strikethrough. That is another feature Microsoft should add for us :)

The only way to get a diagonal strikethrough is with a table. So to do it, insert a table (even if it is just a single cell table that you put your equation in, and then add a Diagonal Down border to that table cell. Give it a shot and see if that works for you and let me know.

If you are a heavy PowerPoint user, Ctrl + Shift + D is a killer shortcut for duplicating the slide you are on so that you can tear it apart and always go back to the original if you don't like where you ended up.
The closest shortcut you have on a PC is Alt, H, 4 (you do not need to hold those down to make it work). Those are your Ribbon guide shortcuts to the strikethrough shortcut. I"m also not sure why Microsoft never added it's own dedicated shortcut for that.

why does the strikethrough tool even exist? i understand that it shows that text has been deleted but like....you're on a computer why not just delete the text? is it for dramatic effect? im clueless would someone mind lending me a hand in unraveling this mystery?
Great question Adin. In my experience, it is just a visual effect people like to use to show what they want to change or what they want to improve on (I'm thinking specifically in PowerPoint for this). In Word, some people also prefer this to using the "track changes" feature in Word which will automatically cross out text as you make edits. If you are not currently using this for a specific use case, then it is a good to know feature (but not critical).
I use it for my day job for regulatory documents to track history of edits. So it’s like a historical tracker of what has been deleted as opposed to actually deleting the text.
Sorry to hear that. If you try it again, make sure you first hit Alt, then hit H, and finally hit 4. You do not need to hold the keys down to make them work. If you do not start with the Alt key, it will not work. I hope that helps sort the problem out for you.
Thanks for the feedback, that is something I"m working on. I wrote up all of these shortcuts if the following blog post if that is easier to follow along with: nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/powerpoint-tutorials/strikethrough-shortcut/
I don't believe you can change the Strikethrough Text color in Word. You can change the underline color though in the Font Dialog box. Select your text and hit Ctrl + D to open it up quickly.
FABULOUS, LOGICAL, CLEAR, DETAILED as opposed to the unclear, frustrating instructions Microsoft posted. Thank you, kind sir!
Glad that was helpful! We aim to do better than the Microsoft answers :)
Can I change the color of my strikethrough so it's different than the font? Example: Black font, red strike through?

How to change strike through colour ?
Please
Currently not possible... hopefully this will be addressed in a future update.
HOW do you get Word to accept the strikethroughs as permanent changes? In other words, update the document to a new version with them deleted.
how to do it diagonally for equations ?
The only way to get a diagonal strikethrough is with a table. So to do it, insert a table (even if it is just a single cell table that you put your equation in, and then add a Diagonal Down border to that table cell. Give it a shot and see if that works for you and let me know.
