    Id put some steel plates under the hinges that make holding bed frame easier when you put back on hinges, if the frame can be set on the steel plates in line with hinges would make doing that by urself much easier, also on that bottom bunk, you could build a fold down back on it like a sofa back that can be folded up for a sofa back, then back down for a bed mode, but youd have have a matress that folds in half.

    Great lay out. Taper the hinge pins a bit on the ends, so it's not as difficult to line them up.

    My utility trailer has a similar hinge setup, and it was impossible to reattach the gate by myself UNTIL... I shortened one pin by half an inch. Now I can get the long pin side started, and then still have a small gap to get the second hinge inserted. FAR easier!!!

      I ended up doing that shortly after I made the video... it was a pain before!! I have never taken the bed off again though...lol.

    Awesome design. Lots if ideas will be stolen from you. From experience...when attaching the bed base to the mount you said you had problems with the hinges. Solution...make one of the hinge pins either longer or shorter than the other. That way one of them holds while you line up the other.

      @watsonst04  3 года назад +2

      Thanks!! I did eventually come back and shorten 1 pin on each side. Works a lot better. Thanks for the help!

    Fantastic design! I may “borrow” it. Thinking I may shorten the hinge stud about a 1/2 inch so they don’t have to start at the same time.

    I have been thinking about making this out of 8020 aluminum extrusion

    • @watsonst04
      @watsonst04  3 года назад +3

      I think as long as you make it out of some type of metal you'll be fine as long as the thickness/strength is there. I just don't think wood would be a option. Aluminum would definitely save weight as these are not light.

      Great idea... I am planing to convert my 5x10 cargo trailer to a camper and these beds are a great idea... Just wonderring what thickness you used on the angle iron, maybe i missed feom the video... Aluminium sound good idea, lighter, but the welding... I wilm be working with Autodesk inventor to design mine, at least that will help me to reduce mistakes :)
