  • Why We Don’t Use CO2 Lasers For Acne Scars Anymore | Dr. Chiam CT
    We have seen an increasing number of patients becoming less and less enthusiastic about laser resurfacing because of the pain, prolonged redness, potential complications, downtime, and intense care required.
    The good news is, there are other less invasive modalities that are able to successfully achieve the same results. In today’s video, Dr. Chiam (@drchiamct) will be sharing with you why we have stopped using CO2 lasers for acne scars and what are the alternative methods you can consider.

    How long do the effects of rf microneedling last? Is it permanent or does it need to be repeated every 6 months, 1 year?

    My doctor suggested me to get co2 laser for acne scars. Unfortunately, I’m concerned about my skin tone (might be 4 on the scale) and side effects. What do you think i should do?

    Its good that you finally turned ON the comments section to this video, otherwise it seemed you were hiding from questions.
    4:01 I think most people are put off by that statement cos most of the doctors say it takes max 6 sessions (instead of you claimed 10-15 or more). So it sounds like a scare tactic or marketing tactic instead of a fair comparison. I don't know what's actually true, but you should definitely ellaborate on that statement.
    I was interested in searching for radio frequency treatment cos as you said, I am a working guy and cannot afford 2 weeks off, and even if I can, I stay in an apartment complex and can't fully avoid being in public for that long. Plus getting into my house without being seen and people asking tons of questions is another thing.
    So could you give a concrete (as much as possible) example for like similar type of patients with similar scarring that you treated with laser vs just radio frequency and the downtime as well as the number of sessions for each. That would clear a lot of doubts / skepticism people have after watching this video.

      Hi MAC05, thank you for leaving us your comment. Apologies, we did not realise the comments section was off. The number of sessions is just a gauge depending on patients' skin, type of scars, types of laser machines or even the settings. It is good to speak to your doctor for a detailed consultation to understand the number of sessions you're required for your skin. Thank you and have a nice day!

    I am looking forward to getting one of these clinical treatments, but I'm really confused between MNRF and CO2 Laser as I have Hypertropic Acne Scars and are 4-5 years old. My dermatologist only provides MNRF treatment and I feel he kind of has a baised judgement and stating me to get MNRF, but upon researching I found that the effects or results of CO2 Lasers are more durable compared to MNRF and since I have my whole face with every types of scars (boxers + rolling + Hypertropic) I am really confused and have no one to guide me onto this. Can you suggest which would be a better choice MNRF or Fractional/Ablative CO2 Laser. (Also I'm Asian.)

    • @EnsoulMedicalClinic
      @EnsoulMedicalClinic  2 года назад

      Hi Raj, for Asian skin or darker skin tone, Microneedling RF is more suitable as it has a much lower chance of getting Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). There are also other fractional lasers such as Erbium Yag lasers apart from CO2 lasers. Ultimately, your doctor would have assessed your skin and provided you with a suitable treatment for your skin.

  • @ADAPTATION7
    @ADAPTATION7 Год назад

    One question here: Is MNRF also good for hypertrophic scars? I experienced hyperpigmentation with a CO2 laser 16 months ago to smooth out a hypertrophic scar. I had my concerns with PIF even though I am caucasian and that the area is never exposed to the sun. I've never had any issues with Erbium lasers.

      Hi François Dion,
      Yes can, but there are limitations. There is a small chance that some get worse, so will still need to treat with steroids. It is best to speak to your doctor more on this.

    None of the rf devices come close to co2/erbium lasers in terms of efficacy per session.

      Plus RF causes fat loss, fat which you can never get back once lost. Absolutely negligent to not inform about this.

  • @Skeptouchos

    So you don't use CO2 lasers solely because of the downtime that patients have to go through, not because of anything related to final results. If you care about reducing your acne scars, get the CO2 laser done. The downtime will be almost always be worth it.

    • @Skeptouchos
      @Skeptouchos 5 месяцев назад

      @@laplace1623 Well that certainly doesn't sound good. Perhaps you have a darker skin tone that may not have been a good fit for CO2? Perhaps you exposed your skin to the sun after the procedure? Sun should be avoided at all costs within the first 7 days, and an adequate amount of sunscreen is very important after getting a CO2 procedure done.
      You should go to a dermatologist, they should be able to address your issues with the hyperpigmentation.

      From almost everything I’ve read on co2 treatments it’s supposed to be amazing and you won’t need any retouches for 5 years Af te r just once.

      I'm scheduled for fully ablative co2 resurfacing next week for severe acne scarring. It's one treatment and my plastic surgeon said I should have good results on a variety of acne scars. Downtime is 2-4 weeks. It's a two hour procedure under anesthesia and includes 5 different meds. It was about $5k. I've done other lasers, microneedling, many chemical peels.... I've done it all. I was told fraxel would do nothing for me and that fully ablative CO2 was the way to go. I was told that by two different plastic surgeons. I was told there was a risk of hyperpigmentation in my skin type, but I don't mind that risk as my concern is with texture. So, I really just think it depends on what's important to you and how much time and money you can dedicate to a particular procedure.

      Hi Di Klee, Thank you for leaving us your comment. There is more than 1 method to treat acne scars, depending on the severity of your scars. Some patients may require a lesser number of sessions depending on their skin, the machine used and the settings by the doctors. It is good to speak to your doctor for a detailed consultation to understand the number of sessions you're required for your skin. Thank you and have a nice day!
